Absolutely great news! The Wild Robot did 35 million, which "Exceeded Expectations"! Awesome!
As long as this flower is in my heart. My Strength will flow without end.Why did I hear that in the voices of the Knights of the Round Table after they ate Robin’s minstrels? ^_^;;
Come on! Let's bless them all until we get fershnickered!NBC published an article saying Sanders is willing to do a sequel to the film.
https://www.nbc.com/nbc-insider/will-there-be-a-sequel-to-the-wild-robot
That last part: "I think the entire crew really, really involved themselves in this film in a way that I’ve never seen before, myself included. This was a labor of love on the part of everybody at the studio, and yes, I think I’d love to go and stay here for a while"
Does he knows that many of the animators were laid off months before the release of the film? And does he knows that this is the last animated movie of Dream Works made in-house?

Double post: For the record, I'm not accusing Sanders of anything bad, he's a great director and I don't mind seeing a sequel of The Wild Robot, but I'm concerned that the sequel will not live up to the original if the crew that Sanders worked is not here to put that same heart and soul of the first film.
Let’s not assume that any new animators brought in won’t have the passion this crew did. Especially as long as the film and story have the same tight direction as this first one.
You’re Gonna Carry That Weight.I dunno if that would have helped. They did have some decent hits these last few years. It’s likely the shift was in the works for a while. My understanding is one of the current DW executives helped found one of the vendors and he’s the one who pushed for this. Really shady/scummy stuff.
Found this under Roz’s folder on the character page:
- Internal Reformist: Roz ultimately chooses to return to Universal Dynamics, but with the new mission of teaching the other robots what she has learned and convincing them to help protect the animals.
I didn’t get that vibe from the ending. Did anyone else not get it?

You’re Gonna Carry That Weight. We can probably cut it then. What about this?
- Ungrateful Bastard: Lampshaded. Fink voices that it's pretty insensitive for Brightbill to essentially disown Roz as his mother after everything she did to take care of him, saving him from the pike and losing her leg in the process among them. Granted, Brightbill does have a point about Roz not telling him the truth, and at the same time, he does feel remorse for lashing out.
Someone commented about the concern of a sequel, yeah, we should concern if the sequel can be that good.
I did not see yet The Wild Robot, but given another examples of Dreamworks, is hard to see a film that was able to overcome the first film due to the impact of the first one, despite it was better or not.
Ask How to Train your Dragon 2, that I loved more than the first film and still is less remembered.
Shrek 2 gaves more to memetic mutation than the first film, but still is more remembered the first one.
The Wild Robot would be the best film of its franchise if it generates one...
Doesn’t mean we wont welcome it or that a sequel would automatically be bad.
You’re Gonna Carry That Weight.Indeed. Even Better Sequel is a trope after all.
As for the Ungrateful Bastard entry I would say that considering Brightbill was still emotional even after Roz saved him that it’s not really fitting, especially considering he’s very conflicted about the whole thing from that point on.
I just finished watching it, and I love it!
I’m seeing a lot of tweets about grade school classes going to see this movie for field trips. Didn’t ever expect to see that.
You’re Gonna Carry That Weight.

That moment when you realize this is the second Dreamworks movie where Catherine O'Hara voices a mom that's a woodland creature (the first being Over the Hedge)
"COCONUTS HAVE WATER IN THEM!"
