I’ve now seen the fan animation in question… did not know what I was expecting.

You’re Gonna Carry That Weight.I heard he used his own company's money.
Also, some people pointed out some shots in the video that looked like they were traced from parts of the pilot, so the guy got ripped off anyway. He should have just paid for a bunch of commissions with all that money like a normal person.

Don't forget to avoid Tumblr too
There is a particular grifting critic of Viv's work on that site that's so utterly pathetic
I won't name them, but they have a pfp of Moxxie having an orgasm. All their posts are extremely negative scrutinizing of Viv's every doing. They also agreed with the allegations of a certain former Spindlehorse employee, believes the abuse allegations about Spindlehorse and Viv's treatment of the staff from an anonymous company review site, and almost always believes Viv is 100% to blame whenever a controversy happens.

The current controversy is not great, but I think it's worth seeing the clip in context before catastrophizing.
I don't know how context will possibly redeem it at this point, but hey, I'm open to seeing.
EDIT: I think a big issue is Viv keeps feeding the trolls. She doesn't know how to get off the internet and focus on herself and her work. No matter what happens she just keeps showing them how much they get under her skin, and that's the worst thing you can do around trolls.

Oissu!
Unfortunately, I think her hatedom and troll army has grown to the point where ANYTHING she does is ”feeding” them, even if she does nothing.
She responds to the ”controversies”? They use that as ammunition and ”proof” that they’re right and thus are ”justified” in continuing to stalk, harass and bully her.
She ignores them? They use THAT as ammunition and ”proof” that they’re right and thus are ”justified” in continuing to stalk, harass and bully her.
At this point, she just can’t win. These people have made it their life mission to destroy her life and career just because they can, and they’ll use any and every method and excuse they can think of in order to do so.
Remember, she’s had to put up with this SINCE SHE WAS A TEENAGER, like for the better part of a decade and a half(?) - Such a relentless bullying campaign WILL get to you sooner or later.

My AO3 profile. Let sleeping cats lie and be cute and calming. So uh, I'm very uninitiated here. I could have sworn this show was out before 2024. My sister showed me a You Tube video of an episode.
Something about running a company that kills people.

You’re thinking of Helluva Boss. Hazbin’s sister show that takes place in the same shared universe. It’s on Vivziepop’s You Tube channel.
As is the Hazbin Hotel pilot episode, though I think that’s non-canon to the main series.

It's had a really impressive fandom for a show that just had a pilot for several years. There are three songs in the pilot, and also a music video of a fan song featuring a pilot VA. It' understandable that it felt like it was alreaady out, in addition to confusing with Helluva Boss.

Interesting.
So that's why people were talking about it like it was out. I was really confused when I saw comments like "Wow, she likes Hazbin Hotel despite it being about redeeming sinners? Big surprise."

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Going back to the “first episodes” thing a page back, something that is really important to keep in mind is that first seasons of any show, regardless of animation or live-action, is very, very rarely going to knock it out of the park. This doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to be bad, but rather that it’s an inevitable result of getting something new off the ground. After all, the first season has to juggle with a (presumably) new cast and crew getting to know and work well with one another, and lay down all the groundwork for future seasons to build off on, and doing all of that well is often easier said than done.
As far as I’m concerned, if it’s just ok and enjoyable, that’s perfectly fine. I’d still happily watch and support it.
Side note: saw a 40 second clip of Alastor surprising Lucifer by teleporting (or well more like doing the shadow movement thing) behind him (no doubt the scene in question is Lucifer showing up to your the hotel himself), which makes me wonder if Alastor is actually some kind of Eldritch Abomination, or Lucifer just really underestimates him for some reason. Because I can’t imagine THE fallen angel ruling Hell for long if any old demon could that easily get the drop on him.

Chain an angry nature god at your own peril.True. First seasons of most properties tend to be a little rocky and need a bit to find their footing. There's some exceptions (property starts strong then crashes and burns), but those are exceptions and not the norm.
Oissu!

Well at least that animator got a great payday from the commission
