Edit: Unexpected page topper, I just wanted to continue a previous conversation...

If anything, there's also yet another hopium observation floating around recently in Capcom online forums, claiming that:
  • Regardless of the reception to the Dragon's Dogma Netflix show, the IP managed to have a new video game entry years later on - Dragon's Dogma II.
  • Regardless of the reception to the Onimusha Netflix show, the IP will have an upcoming new video game entry years later on - Onimusha: Way of the Sword.

Those may be chalked off as some "cause and effect fallacy", but imagine if Devil May Cry will eventually have a new video game entry (be it a remake of an old game, or a Devil May Cry 6) after this Netflix show, I'd take it.

Also after watching Netflix Devil May Cry, I'd love it if Capcom would hire Hoon Lee as a major role voice actor or a Celebrity Voice Actor for a future Capcom video game.

Ok, calm down dude.

I feel like Project X Zone has a better interpretation about it, in that the demons in DMC are part of the wider Capcom Makai where Darkstalkers, Onimusha, Ghosts and Gobins, etc. reside.

Darkstalkers also a nuanced take on demons. It also had B.B.Hood as the evil human.

Well White Rabbit isn't the villain either.

Also, if we need super sexually aggressive powerful trangressive demons who are good, we have Dante. :)

Darkstalkers also a nuanced take on demons. It also had B.B.Hood as the evil human.

Yeah, I remember. I recall the creator wanted to remind people of how evil humans could be.

.....Because we always need to be reminded of that, don't we? Yes sir, in a series about demons, we gotta remember how evil humans can be.

Plus, Hood is the cute crazy girl, who I'm kinda sick of. Though they can still be super entertaining.

Also, with the announcement of a second season, I propose this as the new opening theme:

I'll let all of you decide if this is Dante speaking to Vergil, Vergil speaking to Dante, or Dante to Lady.

Lady doesn't get to say shit. Not after what she did.tongue

Once she's stopped being part of the demon hunting cops, apologized to Dante for all the shit she put him through, and started dressing more like her game self, then she can get stiff on bills by Dante like in canon HAVE A PROPER SAY IN THINGS.

Demon malice should be scarier, but demons don't literally exist, so we can only base them off what we know of humans.

As a result, it's probably easier to write humans as being really evil.

I'm probably not being fair to it, to be honest. I guess it's just not my thing most of the time, though I often still like a lot of characters that employ it anyway.

I get the feeling some writers are just writing what you know.

In fairness, demon malice is scarier.

But in most works, demons and monsters are just following their nature or instinct. It's not the same.

That's a fair point.

So what you're saying is that it's human nature to be more evil than demons.

....I was going to put in a Humour Mode / Joking Mode pothole, but I realized that it might not be a joke to some.

Well a lot of the time demons are themselves a metaphor for the worst aspects of humanity. Like the Devil May Cry games where the human villains become more demonic to represent throwing away their morals in pursuit of power.

That byline is pretty clearly code for "you really liked those Castlevania shows and this guy worked on them".

I was going to ask how people know demons don't really exist, but then I realized that was a religious question that we don't need to get into.

So let me just say this: I think Humans Are the Real Monsters is the cheap hack trick to writing, for those who hate implementing nuance.

It's not cheap and it tends to have more nuance than "humans are special".

Both can be cheap if done poorly.

I'm not all that enamoured with Humans Are Special either.

I'd be ok with us being no better or worse than other races in a Fantasy Kitchen Sink type scenario.

I feel like that's pretty realistic all in all.

On the subject of the next season release date, this is Netflix so it can really vary on when this could come out.

Could take a year to come out like the next Castlevania Nocturne season or it could be released later this year in chunks like Sonic Prime.

This show was in development for an incredibly long time though so it wouldn't surprise me if there's already more episodes made.

On the malice of monsters versus the malice of humans, my go to for that is always HunterXHunter. The ending of the Chimera Ant arc is hard to top.

This is an interesting complaint I've heard about.

I've seen some criticism of the Devil Trigger scene because it uses the Pull My Devil Trigger song which is Nero's theme song, not Dante's.

Not saying I agree with it but its funny how it makes me recall how Batman adaptations have a problem of constantly mixing elements of the individual Robins with each other.

One of the interviews tripped me up. They wrote Dante and his lines of dialogue... specifically to account for Johnny Yong Bosch? The Nero guy (funnily enough), and they were wanting him as Dante.

Dante stole Nero's theme and his voice actor SMH the shame. [lol]

The song is too much of a bop not to use TBH. Honestly the song never struck me as particularly Nero in the first place, considering Nero's Devil Trigger is far less iconic and the lyrics gel as much with Dante anyway.

[up] Honestly, i get it? Honestly it's hard to unhear JYB as Dante for me now, they really nailed it.

[up][up] There's also the usage of Bury the Light despite the context of the lyrics centering on Vergil's arc in 5. So using it here robs the song of its emotional context.

Its using popular songs from the franchise without really any regard for their context. Its especially notable since most of the show's soundtrack is licensed songs which makes the few video game tracks stick out.

It's like if a Sonic cartoon used "Dreams of an Absolution" for a Super Sonic transformation, or used "I Am (All of Me)" or "All Hail Shadow" while they were doing Shadow's SA2 character arc. It'd just be distracting.

Speaking of distracting, even with the dialogue written with him in mind, JYB as Dante started out fine, but by the mid point all I could hear was Nero. It got to the point where I had to switch to the Japanese track whenever Dante was on screen so the dissonance would fade.

Even aside from it being ment to be Neros song, the series rendition of Devil Trigger honestly just kinda sucks.

It's like they specifically removed everything that made the original hype.

Devil Trigger had about eight official remixes a month after DMCV dropped. I really liked the orchestral version from Teppen, but they all pale to the original.

We seem to have our first pic of Season 2. Unintentionally(?) Uploaded to Netflix IG and saved here by tumblr fanartists.
