I never payed attention to politics during the W. Bush era.
That said, go on...

Well, he's a man from Texas who was President of the United States, like the president in the show. However, it is largely believed that he was more of a figurehead for his Vice President, Cheney. Several of the contemporary accusations of him being a powerless puppet were quoted by Baines early on when he explained that he has the power.
Now, the defining moment of the Bush era took place during the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001. It was covered from many angles in the news and created many conspiracy theories, something spoofed in the show after the attack on the Vatican with a montage of different news programs talking about it from various angles. It was also the catalyst for something known as the War on Terror.
The rhetoric leading to the War on Terror, leading to a US invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan is echoed several times throughout the show by Baines and his allies. There's more to go on, but it is very very clear to those who lived through this era and remember the climate that it's what the show is alluding to.
Also, they literally use a protest song against the War on Terror in the show.

Does anyone actually read these?I can understand it to some extent. Dante has spent his life destroying evil cults because humans come to worship or crave the desire for the demonic. It’s why we half of the main villains have been Humans who seek demonhood: Arius(rich), Arkham(desires Sparda power), and the Order of the Sword(Religious Cult who uses Sparda as an excuse for power and Godhood).
The series has been critical of humans who want to be demons and desire power for its own sake. Unfortunately The biggest and richest cult as a major party in the world that desires power over all with its hegemony for ages. But that’s no doubt why the series has avoided being set in the real world because then you have to confront the actual realities of humanity.
In many ways this reminds me a lot of SMT or Devilman, which have also done a lot of the things it’s done. US imperialism and Hegemony =Law in SMT, Othering people as demons because of their differences until one is no different from a demon as an analogy for the Cold War = Devilman, etc.
Another example of 2000’s Era politics serving as a basis for villainy but is not using the US itself is…Star Wars. Prequel Emperor Palpatine and the Clone Wars was influenced by then 2000’s US POLITICS and the War on Terror. The original movies took inspiration from the Vietnam War as well, US being the Empire then too.
Edit:Doing In the Wizard is also in SMT and Devilman as well. Demon abilities are typically explained as weird biology, as well as Psychic Powers are rampant and the explanation for how Biblical Heaven and Hell, Demon powers Satan’s powers, etc., and well Digitizing Demons in SMT was there from the start.
Editx 2: Also they Name Drop Racoon city so they definitely want Resident Evil to exist in the same universe. Including BOW’s.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession. There were several references to other Capcom franchises.
On that note, I did see it pointed out that the way this show changed Hell and its society makes it much closer to the world of Darkstalkers then Devil May Cry, with it being largely a wasteland roamed by animalistic monsters, it being ruled by a small group of super powerful elites and there being an innocent and exploited underclass of much weaker demons.
Then add to that the realm being called "Makai" and demons being categorized on a four tier power scale and I kinda have to wonder if that was intentional.
I heard potential ideas that they want to do exactly that. Having a bunch of the franchises in the same setting. In which case since we’ve gotten very clear RE references being real and happening in the setting, then having to mix and match elements of DMC Makai and Darkstalkers Makai would be the natural end result.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession. With all the blatant nods to the War on Terror, I'm dropping this show before I get too attached. Props to all the people not involved with the script, you did a great job.
I'm still going to keep my Netflix subscription. Some of their originals do get praise without controversy. Their rotation of shows always gives me something to watch.
Does anyone else notice there's been a recent trend with adaptions that seems to bias towards Muggles Do It Better? Like with James Gunn's stuff and this where it seems rather cynically shows that all these over the top, powerful people, are ultimately no match for men with guns and government backing?
It's probably an attempt to be realistic, but I can't help but think it's really undercutting the core appeal of these genres.

The games have implied that Humans Are Special in some way, and Lady is one of the most popular characters in the franchise for being a Badass Normal. Even the DMC 2 prequel novel featured a character named Beryl who was very much a prototype for Lady in being devil hunter who had no magical or demonic powers and was still able to keep up with Dante in the asskicking department.
This show is just putting its money where it's mouth is in regards to humans not being totally helpless.

I think the issue with going with this specific brand of humans are the real monsters, is that demon killing is the series brand not killing government and military grunts. Ergo its not really as fun or cool that the primary threats are some military fucks with guns and tanks over the more impressively and diversly powered demon monsters.
To note DMC 4 which actually had a human institution in the Church of Fortuna as the primary antagonists did so through them merging with demon flesh to become demons themselves. So that way its still in the series brand of kickass spectacle.
So Suicide Squad and Creature Commandos. I don't think the former really counts cause it has some really ridiculous powers like King Shark and Polka-Dot Man while the primary antagonist Starro was defeated by Ratcatcher with her rats instead of Bloodsport the guy with the guns.
And Creature Commandos has some powerful superhumans like Doctor Phosphorous who pretty much styles all over tanks and guns and is objectively the most powerful character in the series due to his radiation powers.
So I wouldn't really call either of those "muggles do it better" especially in CC's case since the entire team barring Flagg is some kind of enhanced superhuman or monster.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Alright. I'm currently into the last episode.
Still much to be done, but I'll get some better context to some of those spoilers once I'm done.
Edit: And done.
Lady....you kinda disappoint me.
So, with the context of the Rabbit's backer being Vergil, and Vergil being backed by Mundus, doesn't this mean that Mundus has basically played everyone?
Now that I've seen the ending, using the series as a criticism of Bush Era politics is pretty blatant. I'm kinda noticing that's a thing with Adi Shankar stuff.
Do we think that enhances the work, or changes it into something unrecognizable?

One Strip! One Strip!I wonder if we will get members of the Goldstein family such as Nell who made Dante's guns, Rock and his sister Alyssa who worked at the Uroboros Corporation. Where they would meet Agnus who would date Alyssa leading to their daughter Nico before Agnus abandoned them both and shortly after Alyssa would die. This left Rock to raise his niece while he would running a gun shop which would be the source of Nico's interest weapons.

"May your heart be your guiding key"Its very clear someone is if Capcom ain't gonna revive Darkstalkers I WILL!
I mean Game Sparda did kinda topple the empire and then peaced out like the aftermath wasn't his problem atleast he took out Mundus
And Show Sparda really did just Leave everybody alone with Mundus with few ways out
I wonder if Show sparda is in the same vein as Dm C's Sparda
Turning the legendary figure into a more failable person so thier Son's trimumph is more thier own thing instead of continuing a legacy
IE see the constant villianfication of Thomas Wayne and Jor El

That's more just the general set-up of Suicide Squad which is a team of already imprisoned criminals being drafted into work for the promise of lighter prison sentences.
James Gunn didn't invent either of those set-ups, Suicide Squad and Creature Commandos has been a thing since the 80s.

I am wondering when we're getting Ebony and Ivory. Like Lady does eventually get the Kalina Ann so they are going to acquire some of their signature weapons even though Dante isn't going to be collecting Devil Arms from every demon he kills.

Also there are barely any Metas besides King Shark in Gunn's Suicide Squad, even among the ones that are killed off at the start, and Shark is completely Immune to Bullets.
Plus I think it's worth noting in Guardians of the Galaxy, Star-Lord actually takes a back seat for the action scenes in the second and third films after Gamora and Drax start being depicted with their comic counterparts' super strength.
As for this show, does this count as a count as Never Trust a Trailer since all the footage made it look like a faithful adaptation of the game's tone and action?

Does anyone actually read these?
