[up] Huh, @fillerdude, you didn't give Shangri-la Fronteir a try?

Also, I will mention quickly that I fell that 2 series you dropped (Ron Kamonashi and Unreliable Witch) are better in their manga version, since the anime version of Ron fells somewhat dragged out and slow, meanwhile Unreliable Witch's humour isn't hitting as hard as it did on paper (but still enough I will keep watching it). So if anyone kinda liked those series, maybe check their mangas.

[up] I'm watching SLF! Threadless Talk basically means it's my place for dumping my thoughts on all the series that don't have dedicated threads.

The piggy bank murder in Ron Kamonashi was so simple I couldn't believe it was the focus of an entire episode in a detective series. I think that's my problem with it, it's a little too simple.

[up] Ah, I actually hadn't check that thread, so that slipped out of my mind, and I see you regularly other series threads like 100 gf and Undead Unluck, so Shangri-La was the only series missing, so that is why I asked.

In the case of Ron, I can say that later on there are some clever mysteries, and the ongoing storyline does have some interesting points, but I will also probably drop the anime at some point and just stick with the manga.

Dr. Stone: New World The Kingdom of Science is reviving quickly, as Amaryllis gets back to them to tell them about Kohaku and Ginro & what they discovered. Senku and the others now understand that Ibara is the only real master on this island. Unfortunately, Moz followed Amaryllis... But he's not interested in killing everyone. He wants to be on top. Gen mentalists him into forming an alliance with them, but everyone knows that alliance only lasts until they snatch the Medusa from Kirisame and Moz kills Ibara. So, now we've gotta come up with a "dealing with Moz" plan along with our "snatch the Medusa" plan.

Not a very eventful episode, it was mostly just everyone talking and negotiating in the cave. But if you enjoy the "How To" bits even when they aren't science, Gen's Manipulation Tactics are some fun to be had.

Luckily, Gen's one of my favorite characters, so I still enjoyed this.

Episode 4 of Undead Unluck was quite the jaw-dropper (is that how you say that?), making for an astounding display some of the strenghts of the series: creative action (with some of the best 3d I have seen), impactful emotional moments, quick and breezy humour, and some dash of world-building.

In the same way episode 3 of 100 Girlfriends was a great highlight of that series (which I will also recommend), episode 4 of Undead Unluck is one to remember, regarding the series.

Yeah, I misread the page (no, I don't know how either). Whoops. <_>

that doesn't really change my position, though

it being manga does not grant me an extra pair of eyes, sadly

The first three episodes of The Apothecary Diaries were a joy to watch. The show is visually stunning, and it perfectly captures the mix of the extremely serious - or even outright dark - themes of the various plots, and the humor born from Maomao's personality and the snark fights with Jinshi. The animation is superb too, and the vibrant colors add a lot compared to the manga (yes, I know it's originally a LN, but it's the manga I've read).

I'm waiting to watch Frieren until I read the manga, but those are the two new ones I'm going to follow this season. I might give Undead Unluck a try once there are more episodes too since everybody keeps saying it stops being creepy pervy after some time.

OK, almost all of the shows I watch aired at least 4 eps. time for some further impressions (in alphabetic order):

Dead Mount Death Play Part 2 still good. During the last couple of episodes things started moving at last. Though, still not in full. And Misaki got a nice "upgrade". Of course, continuing.

Goblin Slayer II looks like it will be a bit faster than S1 as they already covered LN vol. 6 in 4 eps. Though, the animation qulity is definetely worse this time, which is a pity. Still, it is a good old Goblin Slayer so I will watch it. Oh, and there is a bunch of cute female halflings in the anime but that's my first time seeing a sexy action-girl type one. Wizard Boy got lucky.

Hametsu no Oukoku is my guilty pleasure of the season. Everything happening is super cringe and dumb, animation is below average and the characters are facepalm worthy. But I just continue watching it to see what will be the next over the top plot-twist and how many more characters will die for dumb reasons.

Kusuriya no Hitorigoto is my favorite show of the season. I am biased as it is my favourite LN. But damn, it has a good production and cast, the story keeps a good balance between serious and comedic and the plot if well-thought through. How can you not like Mao Mao (even if you would not like her IRL)? I am only concerned about tempo so far. They spend to much time on the first LN volume story which may result in cuts later (because it will be dumb of them to finish anywhere before LN vol. 4 ending).

Mahoutsukai no Yome Season 2 Part 2 is good. Yeah, I get that switching to magical school setting is a turn-off for the series fans and the arc antagonist is just to generically evil. But I still like the whole setting and characters and change of pace and enviroment was required after the previous arcs.

Saihate no Paladin: Tetsusabi no Yama no Ou is great. So many people just ignored this series, which is a pity. It is one of a rare well-thought classical fantasy in the medium (isekai aspect here was literarly dropped after a couple of episodes last season). And the animation quality actually improved this season unlke Goblin Slayer. To bad the author still could not continue the series due to his mental issues (though, I doubt it is popular enough to deserve another season either way).

Sousou no Frieren is great. I know a lot of people deem either it, JJK or UU as the best of the season. It is not this way for me, but it is my second best. It reminds me a lot of Kino no Tabi or Wandering Witch Elaina being a bit philosophical road-movie style fantasy that still has decent amount of action. It is way better than Elaina in terms of plot and is less episodical/parable style than Kino. I have high expectations.

Spy x Family Season 2 is as before. Not much to say here. They already adapted my favourite bonus chapter and with next episode they'll start my favourite Cruise arc. My only concern is that the season final will probably look pretty weak comparing to it as I doubt they'll cramp any of the furter arcs here.

Watashi no Oshi wa Akuyaku Reijou. is good. Yes, it is pretty budget but they are very faithful to the novels so far and V As are doing a great job. My only concern is that this season will definetely stop mid-arc and there is no guaranty that we'll get the remaining third or so of the plot in any animated form.

P.S.: Atsumi Tanezaki is doing great job this season between Frieren, Gyokuyo, Anya and Chise.

P.P.S.: Anyone interested in creating Apothecary Diaries discussion thread? I cannot do it myself as I am still banned from editing/creating pages.

If there’s enough interest I’m willing to create threads for Apothecary Diaries and Tearmoon Empire. There’s a few other series I’d start up too but those two seem like they’d spark up the most conversation.

EDIT: On that note, Tearmoon Empire episode 4 was an absolute riot with Mia continuing to fail successfully. I’m glad that she seems to harbor some genuine affection for Abel.

Meanwhile Apothecary Diaries episode 4 wows with some incredibly smooth animation, which only made the moment where Maomao slaps that haughty attendant even more satisfying.

[up] I mean, there are a bunch of threads for series that are less popular. Though, I am a bit surprised Apothecary Diaries are way more hyped elsewhere than here.

[up][up][up] I understand; however I generally only start threads for series I really, really like. I’m simply offering to make the threads for both those series if people want it enough.

[up][up] Personally, I only make threads when I’m sure I will post in it regularly (at least while the series is airing). Otherwise I’m content doing my occasional roundup posts.

[up] Thanks for making one for Overtake, I was planning to make one for that haha.

Np.

Maybe they need to be placed at the "Anime/Manga that already have threads".

On that note, Tearmoon Empire episode 4 was an absolute riot with Mia continuing to fail successfully. I’m glad that she seems to harbor some genuine affection for Abel.

Having read the first two volumes of the LN, their romance is absolutely adorable. Makes you easily forget that Mia is supposed to be 20 years old mentally, but then again it’s Mia. tongue

Little hiccup in the episode though, the CG for the faraway dance shots was pretty ugly.

The rest of the dance was traditionally animated, so I imagine they just ran out of time and had to insert that awkward CG.

[up][up][up][up] I don't mind posting there regularly, it just will be a bit hard to avoid spoilers as I already read 9 LN volumes (which is way more than manga or even this anime season covers).

Okie dokie, I’ve created discussion threads for both The Apothecary Diaries and Tearmoon Empire.

Thinking about creating threads for a couple other series as well haha.

Hoshikuzu Telepath: Kei Akizuki makes her first appearance, with a voice actress who sounds like she'd be a better fit for Haruno than who they actually went with.

Hona also gets a blink-and-you-miss-it anime-original scene, to disguise the fact she's billed as a main character despite appearing in about four yonkoma strips (not chapters — strips) prior to volume 3. It's not bad, I guess? Her role in the manga up to that point consists exclusively of making snide retorts about her sister's incompetence, so this is at least a new side of her.

I thought Matataki's Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann moment fell a little flat. In the manga, it was a dramatic and bombastic plot reversal, which fits her character (and her character flaws). But the low-key, semi-sentimental way it was portrayed through its cinematography and music robbed it of some of its impact. It doesn't really live up to its inspiration, IMO.

The duel with Matataki is so rich with foreshadowing and irony ( like the way Yuu pretends to be a reporter and shoves a mic into Umika's face ... ) that it's tough to talk about without bringing in the context of what happens 15-20 chapters later. So it's a very seminal chapter/episode, but there isn't much I can say about it in a way that's neophyte-friendly.

I love the way HoshiTele uses omake strips as after-credits scenes. It's really the perfect way to bring in the funny, Fourth Wall-breaking, non-canon fluff without trying to integrate it into the actual narrative where it'd stick out like a sore thumb. I hope more anime takes this approach.

For what it's worth, we did have an Apothecary Diaries thread in Literature, but no one used it.

It's been fun.

...It might be just me, but I find it amusing how whenever I see a fanart of Sousou no Frieren, it's either about Frieren getting attacked by Mimics or Fern's...big assets. [lol]

Continuously reading, studying, and (hopefully) growing.
