Following is the first line of the trope page's description: "Called a "long take", this is one very long, uninterrupted camera shot. The camera moves, the actors move, things happen, the camera keeps shooting."

And indeed, long take is a cinematography terminology referring to a shot with a duration much longer than the conventional editing pace either of the film itself or of films in general. It's a well known term both to professionals in the film industry and casual viewers such as those using this website.

While I definitely am aware of the history behind it that goes way back to the earliest years, I have an issue with TV Tropes calling this concept "The Oner" instead of "Long Take". Not only the latter immediately more used and recognized, the former is really ambiguous and non-indicative as well.

As such, I suggest that the trope name be changed to "Long Take". I will get to de-wicking process myself as well if it gets renamed.

Continuously reading, studying, and (hopefully) growing.

~Tropers/dRoy Hi! We don't rename tropes if they aren't causing problems on the wiki per Trope Renaming Guidelines. Also, most TRS threads require a Wick Check so please read that page and visit the Wick Check Project thread if you need help.

If you would like to discuss the possible issues a trope has you can go to Trope Talk. Locking.
