I agree on renaming it; it's not a clear title at the moment. Outside of Trope Namer Syndrome, it could just be called Fictional Crush or something in the same vein as Celeb Crush.
they/them pronouns. Look at my Neocities.See Trope Renaming Guidelines. The title can't change unless it's been proven to cause problems.

this. If you want to advocate for a name change, you'd have to produce a wick chek that shows there is an issue with the trope's usage that the name is likely the cause of and bring it into TRS. (I also think the new suggestion of Galatea Effect is even less clear, with the added issue of Trope Namer Syndrome).

... not clear whether this is a bit or you sincerely think people are gonna martyr you for disliking a trope name, but either way maybe chill about that. The people who are THAT attached to trope names only show up a month after the name change has been agreed on and 80% of the wicks are cleared out.
It's probably not the best possible name for the trope, but renaming tropes is a substantial amount of work, so (as stated previously) there needs to be some evidence put forth that the name is causing problems beyond "I don't like it".
While we wouldn't be particularly surprised if a wick check showed that PSL does in fact have some problems, someone does have to actually check. Until then, we have no idea cause we don't know.
Suddenly I'm... still rotating Fallen London in my mind even though I've stopped actively playing it.On hypothetical renames, I also would not go with Galatea Effect. I have no idea who that is, so I would be even more lost trying to find that trope.
I like either the proposed Fictional Crush or Fictophilia, keeping more with the tone of the name Perverse Sexual Lust.
Again, solely hypothetical until a wick check is done, but thought I'd thrown in my 2 cents.
CSP Cleanup Thread | All that I ask for ... is diamonds and dance floorsI tried looking "Galatea effect" up, assuming it would be connected to the Pygmalion myth that Pygmalion Plot is named after, and it's a psychological phenomenon about expectations and performance. ("Pygmalion effect" is too.) Anyway, from the myth, I wouldn't think of such a term to be about other people's creations.
Yeah, imo Galatea Effect is even less clear than the current, because you lack the fact that it is about lust. Fictional Crush works better imo. We would need a wick check first of course.
Also, please don't act like people will crucify you for suggesting a name change before anything happens, it just makes the entire discussion awkward.

Hi.
A couple of years ago, I came across this trope page, Perverse Sexual Lust, and I've been itching to point out things that better fit the name ever since.
Still, this is the hill I die on. I'm given to understand that about six years ago, it was decided that the trope should not be renamed, ostensibly because of a reference to an obscure web comic I had never heard of nor will ever check out now that I know this one thing about it. And I could be wrong here, but to me it has and will always look more like a desire to bully people who wouldn't be interested in the bully were they to meet in real life.
A suggestion from the discussion page is "Galatea Effect".
I will miss this site.
Good bye.
