I recently had time to sit down and watch this, and I really enjoyed it. It's definitely a different experience than the graphic novel, but it is just as enjoyable. Heck, I think I like the animated version of Ballister a bit more than his graphic novel version.
I really dig the scenes where we get to see Nimona shapeshift into a bunch of stuff in a short amount of time. They're very high energy, and I love that.
I am so happy that this work managed to finally get a release after all the stuff it went through over the years. I definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn't watched it yet.
"I squirm, I struggle, ergo I am. Faced with death, I am finally, truly alive."Spider-Verse is also doing very good, though that one has the Spider-Man brand name and highly acclaimed first film going for it.
Elemental is currently being saved from being a complete failure by very strong box office holds, thanks to positive word of mouth. I think there is a decent chance that a theatrical release for Nemona would have gone similar.

x4: I think my goto comparison has been Shrek.
Specifically Shrek if the queer subtext reading was right there in the text (helps that it's also a lighter adaptation of a Fractured Fairytale).
We have the "monster" who's Not Evil, Just Misunderstood and decided Then Let Me Be Evil long ago. We have their new friend they've decided to rescue, who reluctantly accepts their help to achieve their goals, only to realise that the system they aspire to be accepted in is flawed; in return showing their new friend some much deserved respect and companionship. We have the antagonistic character who ultimately sides with the heroes out of love for one of them, and helps take down the villain. We have the antagonist obsessed with tradition and perfection, and Fantastic Racism towards our hero. We even have a scene where the new friend helps the Made of Iron titular character remove an arrow, and the inevitable scene where a misunderstanding makes the titular character think their new friend is prejudiced towards them.
No Donkey, but Nimona's already got "wisecracking animal sidekick" covered.
TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faerI'm gonna note that Zootopia's advertising, while lackluster, at least told the audience what the movie was about.
Elemental's trailers straight up lied and completely ignored the A-plot. And once people actually saw it and started telling people what it was actually about, attendance picked right back up.
I am so sad Brave had such awesome trailers and marketing. Sure the movie turned out to be mediocre and the trailers hideously misleading but trailers are supposed to sell the movie and make people want to see it which they pulled off marvelously.

You’re Gonna Carry That Weight. It’s best to consider it something made within the setting. I see that with RP Gs with those kinds of big settings. Good we like and know originating from fictional countries.
Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.I mean, if you take everything included as somehow fictional version of location existing, not sure why pineapple pizza being from Canada is so unique. Does the existence of pizza mean Italy exists? Does the saxophone mean France exists? Does the underground subway means England existed? Does jazz means there is a New Orleans?
And the fact that this city is supposed to be the only form of human civilization for 1000 years, because it never extended beyond the walls, so apparently the city is self-sustaining, yet constantly technologically expanding despite no trade and all the necessary resources are within their reach. But that takes away from the emotional core of the movie, and most of it is done because it's cool, despite the logical questions thinking to hard about it brings up.
Yeah, just because in our world pineapple pizza comes from Canada, it doesn't mean a fantasy world cannot have pineapple pizza.
It's weirder when a fantasy worlds have words that reference things that don't exist in their universe, like if pineapple pizza was called "Hawaii pizza" even though there's no place named Hawaii in the setting. But these can often be chalked down to Translation Convention.

You know, I feel like Nimona's "Little children are taught they can be a hero by ramming a sword through anyone who's different" might be the most gutting line I've ever heard in a quote-unquote kids' movie.
Probably either that or "I woke up... dead" from Coco.

Finally saw Nimona and I really enjoyed this movie! I think that the movie had a nice balance with the humor and the dramatic scenes and I really loved the relationships between the characters. I especially loved the fact that they expanded more on Nimona's backstory in this movie than they did in the original graphic novel. And I was shocked that they had the scene where Nimona tried to kill herself during her rampage. It's pretty gutsy for a kids' film.
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!That’s good! But how did, like Pinocchio or Mitchells do?
I won’t ask about Sea Beast, I know how that’s doing?
And can you link the article?
Edit: Never mind, I found it. Shame about Wendell and Wild though.
Hopefully we’ll be seeing a sequel to Nimona…

You’re Gonna Carry That Weight.

To be fair, Zootopia also had kind of a lame marketing, but the movie turned out to be great and a major box office hit.
Which reminds me, I watched Saberspark's review of Nimona, and he compared it a bit to Zootopia due to Fantastic Racism and prejudice being a major theme, with Ballister as the Judy counterpart (lower-class hero with big dreams of becoming a law enforcer) and Nimona as the Nick counterpart (cynical anti-hero with a tragic backstory that resulted in Then Let Me Be Evil).
