…I feel like if Twitter didn’t go all screwy yesterday, this movie would get more traction.
Okay, no more whining.
You’re Gonna Carry That Weight.Yeah, but Netflix has REALLY HIGH STANDARDS…
The morning it came out, I saw an article saying it was Netflix’s most watched animated movie. But it didn’t have a source. That’s part of why I’m so frustrated.
You’re Gonna Carry That Weight. For success. Like if a TV show wants another season or a movie wants a sequel, it needs to REALLY impress the Netflix algorithm.
I dunno. I just want these creators to get more work. Or even see this movie get a sequel. Maybe I’m just being greedy.

You’re Gonna Carry That Weight.Ralph Breaks the Internet wasn’t THAT bad…
Well that article I mentioned is gonna continue to vex me. The one that said Nimona INSTANTLY became Netflix’s most successful animated movie the morning it came out.
You’re Gonna Carry That Weight.I’m not going to argue that movie. All I know is that if a sequel is miraculously announced, I’m celebrating.
You’re Gonna Carry That Weight. It wasn’t supposed to be doomsaying. Whatever. I’m keeping the movie playing on a loop in the background to support it.
You’re Gonna Carry That Weight. With Nimona and its Cel Shaded look now making moderate success between Across the Spider-Verse and the new TMNT, I wonder if it's safe to say that the Painted CGI style has started to define the 2020's across the History of Animation.
oh hey how are you doing?Apparently according to Stevenson in this interview
Nimona’s backstory in the movie involving Gloreth was based on ideas he had for the comic but ultimately didn’t include.
I wonder what that means about the comic’s version where Nimona is theorized to have killed Gloreth and assumed her identity.
This might sound odd to say, but I was relieved that The Director didn't get a last-second face turn. In the castle roof scene I was all, come on, after all she's done, "But what if we're wrong?" works on her? But nope, she'd rather rule dust and ashes that give up her power, which is definitely more in keeping with the social commentary elements.

It helps that the comics' Director similarly went down rotten to her core until her last moments.

Prettiest Meta Knight Gijinka, nglYeah, the Director in the comic is much the same. She has no redeeming traits and gets roasted alive by Nimona’s fire breath. The main difference is the Director in the comic is implied to be a goblin when she is seen without her headdress, which might add an implication of a self-hating bigot to the monster-hunting agenda, but there’s no implication the film Director is anything but a very prejudiced and paranoid human.

Okay people on Twitter are calling Nimona one of the biggest movies on Netflix ever and I’m going crazy because no one shares the numbers.
You’re Gonna Carry That Weight.

Yeah, well, we're in the Western Animation subforum. Everyone here gets worked up over these things.
Another impression the movie left on me is that its core conflict is mostly personal and revolves around the question of trust, rather than being about the institutional abuse of marginalised people like the book is. Which I suppose allowed the story to move in a less tragic direction, while still seasoning it with a new emphasis on class divide.
One day, we will read his name in the news and cheer.
