Well the new Jujutsu Kaisen and Bungo Stray Dogs are prob what I'm looking forward to the most. Maybe the new Kenshin.

I honestly cannot recommend Kenshin anymore, due to the manga author.

[up]That’s interesting, because the anime has many employees working on it that obviously aren’t the author. Makes me wonder.

The anime staff has already gotten paid for their work (to the extent that animators get paid at all in today's industry). The residuals from sales and views are largely going to go to Watsuki, who, remember, was convicted for possession of child pornography.

If you want to watch the show anyway, go ahead, but don't pull this "but what about the in-betweeners" nonsense.

It's been fun.

It sure does make one wonder why I want the reboot of a self admitted pedophile's work who got off with barely any punishment to be bad. Truly, these are the questions isn't it? Also the animators are going to be paid even if the anime is a disaster, and with how the industry works it would probably still be barely anything even if it was the best anime ever made in the past decade.[nja]

It sounds like "nonsense" because people have these types of arguments every time a high profile work connected to a shitty person comes out. The wording of your posts makes it sound like you were trying for a "gotcha" against people who dont want to consume the product that doesnt even work, whether thats your intention or not.

MAL has changed up for Summer Cour, so it's about time I reveal my watchlist for the cour!

     From Previous Cours
  • Bungou Stray Dogs S5: S4 was a pretty short and calm season, and knowing what is to come for S5, I can't wait to see more of that sweet sweet action!
  • Maou Gakuin S2: Technically restarting from scratch, so I'll mainly be looking forward to the episode that weren't able to air, but overall, I'm probably not gonna expect much from this...
  • Jujutsu Kaisen S2: This is much awaited for me as I am excited to see Toji appear on the small screen! And also, since this is also touching on the Shibuya Incident arc, of course I'm looking forward to seeing action!!
  • EDENS ZERO S2 2nd cour: Onward to the Aoi Cosmos Arc. Obviously going into this blind, but if something like Drakken Joe shooting Shiki in the head a la Kisaki to Chifuyu (see Tokyo Revengers) happens again, I will most certainy be wrecked. Too bad that this and AYAKA are airing at the same time on TV, and streaming for both will come days after...
  • Spy Classroom S2: Last season wasn't really that exciting for me, but I hope this season will give me something. I just hope they would tell me exactly when this'll start so that I can prepare...
  • Sugar Apple Fairy Tale 2nd cour: Last cour shattered my heart! What will this cour offer?
  • Mononogatari S2: At least I can finally see this on the small screen instead of relying on streaming!! Can't to wait to see more of Hyouma!
     Debuting This Cour
  • Ayaka: The premise seems pretty interesting, and of course the mostly male cast is gonna get to me at some point, but did it really have to be in the same timeslot as Edens Zero??
  • Jitsu wa Ore, Saikyou deshita?: The seasonal dose of isekai/fantasy...
  • Okashi na Tensei: Yey pastries!! Also, another anime with Ayumu Murase on main (the other being the above!).
  • Lv1 Room: Another fantasy with comedy for flavoring...
  • Jidou Hanbaiki ni Umarekawatta Ore wa Meikyuu wo Samayou: Hereafter, Ore Jihanki. Another dose of isekai, this time with weirder side effects... This is gonna be amusing...
  • Seija Musou: Yet another dose of fantasy, but this time, it's Reiji Kawashima on main... Good luck!!
  • Rurouni Kenshin (2023): Because why not! For one, I heard it was so popular. Two, Souma Saitou is voicing the titular Kenshin. Yes, I am aware of the controversies of the author, and yes, I denounce it and refuse to read the manga for it as a response. I just wanna see why this is popular...
  • AI no Idenshi: It had me at SF, suspense, and Takeo Ootsuka (technically also in Mononogatari too, but for him to get more roles since voicing Aqua in Oshi no Ko is something to keep an eye on)!
  • Nanatsu no Maken ga Shihai Suru: Hereinafter, Nanatsuma. The magic school fantasy setting and Atsushi Tamaru on a main role are what intrigued me.
  • Liar Liar: Just watching this for the mystery and because I'm expecting that the risque elements will be meme-ified...
  • Dark Gathering: Supernatural action has been a mainstay for me, and Nobunaga Shimazaki on main is also another eyecatcher!
  • Helck: Watching for the hype ... and for action!
     Others
  • BASTARD S2: For Dark Schneider, Kall-Su, and the heavy metal action!
  • Record of Ragnarok S2 P2: The last 5 episodes! Namusan (mimicking Igaguri from Blue Lock; I mean, it relates to Buddha, who's likely to be prominent in these episodes, so...)

Overall, it'll hopefully be action galore for me! This'll be fun!

Last season snuck up on me and I ended up picking up 9-10 shows by the end of the season.

Summer should be a fair bit lighter.

Watching

  • Mushouku Tensei. I'll be honest, talking about it here is 80% of the reason I'll be watching this weekly.

Maybe

  • Hataraku Maou-sama!! S3(?)

  • Atelier Ryza. I still need to play the game, but I might give at least the start a watch.

I'll probably pick up another show or two based on word of mouth, but no other firm plans.

Compared to other seasons, my watch list is very light.

Continuing from previous seasons:

  • Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts
  • Ayakashi Triangle
  • Hirogaru Sky Pretty Cure

New shows:

  • Lvl 1 Maou and One room Yuusha: Looks silly and fun as the demon lord and hero are stuck together as roommates in a tiny, cramped apartment
  • The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen Who Will Become the Source of Tragedy Will Devote Herself for the Sake of the People: I have loved every Otome Villainess anime so far. might as well keep going!
  • Atelier Ryza: the game was fun, I'll try the anime.
  • The Dreaming Boy is a Realist: out of several romances, this grabbed my interest, but I may drop it.
  • Reincarnated As A Vending Machine: the premise is so bizarre I have to at least check it out.
  • AI no Idenshi: Looks like a fun twist on AI discussions. A modern-day Susan Calvin should be fun.
  • Dark Gathering: Supernatural Mystery is fun. Seems from the description to be in the vein of xxxHolic
  • Synduality: Noir: a Bandai-Namco Mecha show, worth checking out
  • HELCK: another fun twist on the Yuusha/Demon Lord story.
  • Saint Cecilia and Pastor Lawrence: looks like a fluffy slice-of-life show

A total of only 13 shows, 10 new, that I'm checking out. Half what I've started with the last 3 seasons

Yeah, quiet season for me. The only must-watches are Spellblades and Zom 100, and those are both adaptations of things I've already read and enjoyed.

It's been fun.

So, let me see.

Definetely watching:

Nanatsu no Maken ga Shihai suru: I really liked Alderamin (to bad people were diappointed about character design change and average production of the anime, so we never got more) so I have high hopes for this one. We author seem to actually know how to write a good story and characters.

Tonikaku Kawaii: Joshikou-hen: bacause it's Toni Kawa. I will watch more anytime.

Spy Kyoushitsu 2: a lot of people hated it. But I liked it as a silly spy comedy ironially si I do not mind to see the next chunk of a plot. I am bit concerned there is no airing date yet, though.

May check it out:

Ban G Dream! It's My GO!!!!!: I like Bandori as a franchise. Though, the next group does not look like something up to my taste. Will think about it.

Horimiya: Piece: as I heard there a like 4-5 episodes worth good material in the chapters they skipped last season, so I am not sure if I need it. Hori Miya already was almost half the time filled with secondary characters stories which were hit or miss.

Undead Girl Murder Farce: the premise looks interesting but this type of series are often hit or miss. Will check a couple of epiodes at least, though.

Hyakushou Kizoku: I normally like these self-ironical authobiography series. Will check it out but not sure if I stick for long.

Zom 100: Zombie ni Naru made ni Shitai 100 no Koto: once again, the premise looks interesting but I am not sure how good it will turn out. Will give it a couple of episodes.

Dark Gathering: same here.

I may check out something else if people I know will prise it, but this is all for now.

[up] Zom 100 is going to depend on how much you like dark humor (obviously) and how well you vibe with its message, which is a carpe diem-type "enjoy your life and find joy in the little things" sort of thing. I feel like it does sort of get distracted by itself later on, but there's no way the anime will cover that much.

It's been fun.

Taking a break from Tears of the Kingdom to tell you guys that the Random Curiosity preview for Summer 2023 is up. How hot are the anime slated for this season?

Summertime Sequels: stuff I liked before that I want to see more of

  • Mushoku Tensei: It's been a while. Excited to see what Rudeus has been up to.
  • Jujutsu Kaisen: Just give me more jaw-dropping fight choreography, and I'll be happy.
  • Misfit of Demon King Academy: It's back from hiatus. Hopefully with more gusto.
  • Hataraku no Maou-sama: I can only hope that this fares better than season two did. The material it covers should at least be more intriguing, as a baseline.
  • Link Click: Caught up to the first season a while back and it is absolutely fantastic. If you're a fan of sci-fi, watch this!
  • Spy Kyoushitsu: First season never managed to find its footing, and is honestly a failure of a spy thriller. But it's got its own sense of sass and style, and sometimes that's enough to keep me entertained.

Burns Brightly: the kind that sets the soul ablaze
  • Genjitsu no Yohane: SUNSHINE in the MIRROR: It's my favorite Love Live group transplanted into a fantasy setting. It's gonna be so nice seeing everyone from Aquors again!
  • Undead Girl Murder Farce: Victorian era detective solves crime with the help of talking decapitated head? Doesn't sound like a farce to me!
  • AI no Idenshi: Madhouse doing a sci-fi anime? The ponderous kind of sci fi? Sign me up.
  • Liar Liar: I can only hope the games will be clever.
  • Zombie 100: I love zombie apocalypse anything, but what really caught my attention was the PV. It looks colorful and energetic and several levels above what I thought an adaptation was going to look like.
  • Helck: Been floating in my awareness for a while now. Time to see what the helck it's about.

Cozy Campfires: good for whittling away the idle evening hours
  • Oooku: Honestly an interesting concept for a period drama. My main worry is that it's Netflix. For some reason having the show available in one whole block makes it harder to watch it.
  • Atelier Ryza: Can't imagine the story will be too interesting from what I've heard about the source material, but I alway did really like the Atelier aesthetic. I really should try playing one sometime.
  • AYAKA: Original anime usually deserve a shot.
  • Okashi na Tensei: Trying to further innovation in the field of confectioneries is a noble endeavor.
  • The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses: Wait a damn minute, GoHands is animating this fluff romance? Now this I gotta see.
  • Reborn as a Vending Machine, Now I Wander the Dungeon: It's clearly trolling. I can respect it.
  • Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon: Know what, I'm in the mood for more romance shojo.
  • Reign of the Seven Spellblades: Oh cool, when was the last time we had one of these harem-slash-magic-academy shows that weren't isekai?
  • Temple: The manga's pretty funny! But as we all know the humor doesn't always get translated to the anime. Cautiously optimistic for this one.
  • Eiyuu Kyoushitsu: It really is the mid 2000s again. Harem-battle-academies are allowed to exist without being isekai.
  • Dark Gathering: We don't get a lot of horror anime, and most of them aren't even good. Here's hoping this can haunt me for a while.
  • Synduality: I knew the name sounded familiar... probably heard it from a Playstation showcase. Nonetheless I'll take any mecha I can get.
  • Saint Cecilia and Pastor Lawrence: Dogakobo is more often a hit than a miss, especially with light-hearted stuff.

Lukewarm Lager: barely tickles the throat but good enough filler

  • Horimiya -piece-: I'm honestly not sure what to make of this. The first anime already felt meandering as it is.
  • Am I Actually The Strongest?: Actually, no, you're one of the weakest shows this season, actually.
  • Lv 1 Maou to One Room Yuusha: Gets one episode to sell me on its comedy.
  • The Dreaming Boy is a Realist: The question is, how cute will this be?
  • The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen: From Villainess to Savior: Seems like your average villainess isekai?
  • The Great Cleric: Seems like your average isekai?
  • The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today: Another GoHands production? And slice of life too? What in the world

Cold Coals: not everything can be hot stuff
  • Rurouni Kenshin: One of my childhood cartoons, but I don't want to support Watsuki.
  • Bang Dream!: Have not watched a single thing from this franchise.
  • Uchi no Kaisha no Chiisai Senpai no Hanashi: I'm not the audience for this.
  • Masamune-kun no Revenge R: Manga's alright, not really interested in watching the anime.
  • Mononogatari: Season one failed to hold my attention.
  • Sugar Apple Fairy Tale: Ditto.
  • Rental Girlfriend: This will probably adapt the movie arc, which is the series peak. But no, I'm still avoiding it like the plague.
  • Level 1 dakedo Unique Skill de Saikyou desu: Familiar with the manga. Cozy enough, don't think it merits a second look.
  • Bleach TYBW: I only watch some clips here and there.
  • Duke of Death and His Maid S2: I think I shelved the first season midway.
  • Ayakashi Triangle: Haven't been keeping up with the anime.
  • Bungo Stray Dogs: I'll never understand how this got popular enough to get five seasons, but more power to Bones!

Plus anime continuing from Spring. Most of my hype is for Mushoku Tensei, Link Click, Yohane and Zombie 100, but everything else seems solid at least.

I would bet it's the shipping that made BSD popular. That's kinda part of how I got into the series in the first place.

[up] I know a lot of yaoi fangirls like BSD but the only shipping that matters for me is Atsushi/Kyoka. Still need to find time to continue the series, as I got it on hold mid season 2. I liked it but the actual plot that season was so much less interesting than the flashback arc...

Also, a small remark that may matter for some. Reign of the Seven Spellblades is from the same writer who made Nejimaki Seirei Senki: Tenkyou no Alderamin.

Finally have airdates for everything. We could have been done several days earlier, but Spy Room wanted this to be an ~event~

Meanwhile, Genjitsu no Yohane is kind of odd. Starts off as a fairly generic idol series barely making use of either the Sunshine or the fantasy aspects of it's premise, then gets much weirder about halfway in. Going to give another episode, but I don't really have the highest of hopes
