Apparently following Mydei's release, HSR tops the JP iOS store
, outdoing apps like Youtube and Tiktok.
Or because he's just a cool character, and Japan tends to have high female playerbases for non-gooner games. TBH calling Mydei a Gilgamesh expy is a painfully forced comparison. Besides, it's not like Fate's current-day numbers could put a dent on a Hoyo flagship.

Does anyone actually read these? He has not much in common with Gilgamesh personality wise but to try and assert that the comparison is forced despite how blatant the visual similarities, I need you to be so serious.
That said I also highly doubt fate fans have anything to do with his sales numbers, especially when the Collab with the actual characters from the VN will be coming even if it's later in the year.

I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boysYes, well, I just did, and it is not the first time.
And it is not only HSR. Every service game built around a continuous release of content is kind of a cesspool like that when it comes to online discourse. And whenever you raise this issue you get told that "criticism is healthy".
You just get more engagement from criticism than from praise overall.

That's just a fandom thing, not a live service game thing, and it's particularly a large fandom thing. People are prone to catastrophising and doom posting true enough but the "criticism is healthy" point is both true and is just a result of people wanting to have space to express their negative opinions without feeling obligated to be purely positive as if this company making millions by the month via an inherently exploitative model needs kiddy gloves.
That aside the "people are still spending money even if there's a lot of complaining" point you made before isn't really a gotcha, something doesn't necessarily have to be good to be successful after all.

I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boysIt is a live service game thing because for those there are expectations on new content being released, both when it comes to quantity or quality.
For "complete" games you buy once, you can very much complain about the finished product if it is not up to the standards it promised, but if/when upgrades are made and the game stops being updated, then complaining that element X or Y is not in without having been part of a promise by the devs is kinda silly.
Some games (No Man's Sky for example, or Baldur's Gate 3) will keep releasing free content for the players, but it is because the devs want to, not because they have to. For service games, they have to, which means that players can in good faith have expectations on the content that is added.
And I'm not talking about taking kiddy gloves with Hoyo, I'm talking about the fans and players. I am absolutely convinced that being surrounded by constant negativity can be really bad for your mental health. If you play several of those service games, and are constantly jumping from one ragepost to another, then I'm pretty sure it can globally affect your mood.
Some people are able to enjoy whatever they are playing without being influenced by negative comments, thankfully. But for others it will affect their enjoyment. Now, repeat this for Honkai, Genshin, Fate, Wuwa, a couple MMO, etc... in which you engage in online communities, and it can truly take a toll.
One example: one of the most upvoted posts on HSR's subreddit today
was a meme comparing the quality of the current appraisal event to the wardance or the Aurum Alley ones.
That is 100% done in bad faith because A/there have been small login events like these before (one with Sampo), B/ there has been a bigger event with actual gameplay in this very patch - the working chimeras - C/ it is being compared to events (the Wardance) taking place during patches where there was next to no Main Story content, while 3.1 was kinda loaded on that front.
Stuff like this very often seems to be very popular in online communities. I don't think it's healthy at all.

... No. It's Mydei. They're downloading the game for the new hot guy in town.
Goddammit, Schezo... || *insert incredibly thirsty copypasta about Dr. Ratio*It varies from community to community. There are definitely spaces that will be negative regardless of anything, or positive regardless of anything. And culture wars play a large part as well; I don't think that it's something anyone here was doing, but among the more conservative fandom spaces there's a trend of attributing the success of female characters to being hot love interests, and dismiss any male characters as being successful for random or external factors. The controversy of Natlan has made Genshin discourse particularly unbearable recently for these kinds of reasons.
Does anyone actually read these?I really wonder what gacha/online game subreddit qualifies as "positive" though. All the service games I play are filled with misery over there - sometimes in stark contrast with the interactions I have on my own in other places about these games.
Granted, I "only" play two of them (this one and FFXIV) but there is such a massive shift in tone between reddit and basically every interaction I have about these games outside of reddit that I assume I am not unlucky enough to just play the two exceptions to a rule.
On the other hand it's common for subreddits for various standalone games to be fun to hang out in.

You've only played two huh...then why did you add Fate and Wuwa to your list as if you've had super bad experiences all over the place.

....yes? This is like, fandom 101. That's why you curate your feed instead of just letting whatever in a large fandom metaphorically constantly chuck ice water in your face. Why I mentioned the kiddy glove comments is because I don't think most people are thinking that deeply about the whole thing, most times when complaints start people just want their voices heard (like with how a large part of the Firefly negativity started because she was basically choking out any other content so it feels like she's being forced down your throat in the game and IRL) and with a company like Mihoyo if you're not loud enough they'll definitely not hear it (though I do find it interesting that they grovel more for star rail than Genshin, probably because star rail is making less money), the fandom does has a never ending beef spiral when it comes to critique and the result is that both sides continuously dilute each others points until eventually you're seeing posts that are obviously in response to the other right above each other because people seem to think they can vague post on a subreddit, but there's nothing that can be really done about that unless you start deleting posts that seem intended to start fights (which is a good way to speedrun the subreddit turning against your mod team).
Edited by Mami on Mar 20th 2025 at 7:07:31 PM
I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boysNo, I am currently playing two. I have played more than that.
And to be able to curate your feed, you need at least a few positive places to exchange about those games. If they exist for HSR, I do not know where those places are.
As for deleting posts intented to start fights, well...this forum is overall pretty chill, and it has a very strict moderation. I am not really convinced absolute freedom of speech is the way to go if you want to be a pleasant forum, because it will scare off the moderate people.
You find your one or two friends to exchange impressions with in group chat, you stick to fanart circles that don't speak your language so you that even when they get into fights you don't have to engage with it, you ignore anything with even relatively off vibes, Reddit is actually merciful because you can usually tell at a glance what kind of post it is just from the title. Block, mute, those buttons were made for use. The world is too big to just give everything everywhere your attention. Some subreddits are more worthless to bother with than others but I honestly think despite the neverending doomposting HSR's is on the more manageable side.
Not gonna comment on this forum's moderation.

Bewitching EyesAnd she doesn't use her sword in her ult, so "sword" is not the first thing that comes to mind with her I would say (like Luocha).
Also, other Nihility characters so far tend to either debuff or use DOT on the enemies. Acheron was the first one who did not and you can argue she still is the only Nihility character in that case - unless you add Fugue if you do not want to count the extra toughness bar as a debuff.
Basically, looking at the gameplay, she would likely be a Destruction (or Erudition) character if she wasn't an emanator of Nihility. Especially since Dr Ratio shows that characters from other paths can be designed around the number of debuffs on the enemies.

Huohuo was kind enough to come in only 20 pulls with no guarantee, which means the dilemma of having to choose between Castorice and her is over. Now I need to find characters to play her with because she looks like Sunday's associate and I don't have him (nor do I plan to, I pulled Huohuo on personality alone).
But I guess at some point there's an ult-spamming DPS who will appeal to me, I missed out on Aglaea and Argenti, and I don't think she's better than Lingsha to turbocharge Herta either.
