I guess when you're a War Machine, all Rhodes lead to getting captured.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."I am going to beat you to death with a brick. But there will be a gold star pinned to it.

What was that? I was just coming out of the shower and...
<Ducks a brick>
Da fuq?
One Strip! One Strip!: I have more actual military experience than nearly anybody in this entire franchise. Why am I always the Damsel in Distress?
Yeah, now that I think about it, Rhodey frequently gets the short end of the stick, doesn't he? Kidnapped and impersonated twice, taken over by Whisplash, injured during Civil War... Good thing he'll at least get to be the main character in Armor War.
The deal with Rhodey is that while he is an Avenger, he's never got to be a main character (at least until Armor Wars), and thus is lower on the Plot Armor (hah!) totem pole.
Thus it is safer to do things that seems to shake the status quo to Rhodey (like losing his legs and being replaced by a Skrull).
Rhodey, as the best friend of the Big Hero of the MCU's, has the unfortunate distinction of being the MCU's Krillin. Which means its open season on him much of the time.
As for Secret Invasion, it ironically turned into the opposite problem. After the deaths and retirings of Endgame, and the ongoing projects going on, Rhodey's now the most important character (both in-universe and IRL) not to have anything whatsoever going on (since he wouldn't really have much to do until Armor Wars). So he ended up being their perfect safe pick for a Skrull infiltrator without risking spooking the audience by changing things up in the slightest.
They still screwed that attempt at safety up by establishing him as having been replaced too early, mind.

Okay, but that's worse. You do get how th-aw, fuck, I can't use that joke anymore because the actor who said that line is part of the MCU now.
In all seriousness, the fact that Rhodey has been constantly portrayed as a lesser Avenger that can be treated like crap by various narratives all the time when he's been around since the very first film in this franchise is...kinda shitty, not gonna lie.
I'm not even a super big Rhodey fan, but I hope Armor Wars gets to show him doing more badass things.
I also don't even mind the idea of Rhodey being replaced by a Skrull, if he was replaced post-Endgame, so that Raava was the one questioning Sam about why he gave up Steve's shield to get a better understanding of humanity before doing evil things here.

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."It's still easy enough for Armor Wars to say he was replaced after Endgame. Just because he was in a hospital gown doesn't necessarily mean he was taken during Civil War. Heck, I'm pretty sure it's established in the show the Skrulls didn't start replacing people until after the Battle of Earth, since they needed the superhero DNA as a major part of that plan and that's where they got it.
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonI just realized: if Raava was the one in the War Machine armor when she and Nebula were doing the Time Heist, she likely saw Peter Quill dancing to "Come and Get Your Love", and legitimately thought humans were idiots because they liked music.
sighs
I don't know how I feel about that.
It's like: the idea of a Skrull infiltrating the Avengers and trying to decide whether they like humanity or not is honestly a really neat idea. But without any kind of foreshadowing, it just becomes really dumb. Yet, with too much foreshadowing, people already know what's happening, and it distracts from the main narrative.
There's a way to thread the needle here, but it's really fucking hard, and it needs really smart writers.

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."Rhodey's blood was also red and not green in Endgame, which if they insist on the "during Civil War" thing will be a pretty big retroactive plot hole.
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonI bet they'll handle it with the Hand Wave of "well, those Skrulls were of a subspecies with red blood/mutated to have red blood/are different". Which is cheap, yeah, but it's either that or the gaping hole in canon.
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my Tumblr...Wait, seriously? They did that?
Jesus, guys, is it that hard to try and be consistent with even one singular entry?
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonApparently it is.
They also showed Ghost as one of the people Fury harvested, even though her presence at the Battle of Earth is a Voodoo Shark.
EDIT: I'm removing the pic of Skull Ross's blood wounds unless someone requests the pic again because I realize it's not relevant to what is being discussed.

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."

1. If I Had a Nickel... for every time someone impersonated Rhodey to get to the President of the United States, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice, right?
2. If I Had a Nickel... for every time someone wanting to avenge the death of a family member impersonated Fury in order to get up close to the villain responsible and engage them in a fight, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice, right?
