This is a sequel I should've seen coming given the first game's success and plot threads that were Left Hanging, but I'm still kinda shocked this is coming out, and so soon! Adored the original, so I'm really looking forward to this. The randomized plots sound frankly like a better option given the original's kinda thin writing than trying to flesh it out into some big epic storytelling event.
The original is on sale. Is it worth buying now, when there's probably no multiplayer base left? I originally held off because I heard it was "a single player game trying to be a multiplayer game," and people said it had bad netcode.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff. It's totally playable solo. Hell, for the longest time the final boss had an annoying glitch that would make it impossible to kill that only triggered during co-op sessions. Also the more players join a session, the more hit points the bosses gain along with mooks assisting the bosses appearing during a fight. And again, as per your netcode comment; you're actually at disadvantage during QTE button mash/response moments if you're reside in a region with bad latency, enough to the point that virtually any of the QTE events become death sentences no matter how precise your timing or aggressively you were mashing the button due to the network not recognizing your inputs on time.
Only boss I can think of that's a huge pain in the ass to solo are the twin world bosses at the end of Corsus swamp; you'll absolutely want a friend's help dealing with those two. Every other boss is quite doable, albeit difficult - this game does fancy itself a third-person shooter inspired by Dark Souls, after all.
The Reviews are starting to trickle in.
ACG feels that it's more of the same but better, yet the procedurally-generated worlds often feel like disjointed setpieces with no rhyme or reason, the dog AI could use some work, and the graphics engine/settings could probably use some optimization. Replayability is guaranteed to be great since the game encourages multiple playthroughs in order to find and explore all of the worlds. Overall, he says it's worth a buy, especially if you enjoyed the first game.
IGN's reviewer was happy with the product, praising the combat, loot collection and worldbuilding. They gave it a 9/10.
Fextralife's review emphasized that while Remnant II's story has rather average writing, the worlds crafted are visually memorable, with a few gorgeous settings. And once again, there's plenty of incentive to re-run the campaign or play adventure mode in order to experience all of the various paths and find loot.
Aaaaand Polygon had to give another goddamn useless take again.
This time with a reviewer who clearly wasn't happy with being assigned the game (or any souls-likes in general) and also complained about being sick of post-apocalyptic settings.
