Oftentimes here in Trope Talk, we get questions about whether or not a given trope is tropeworthy enough, or is an example of the kind of non-tropes discussed in People Sit on Chairs. These threads are extremely frequent, and per discussion
in the TRS meta thread, this megathread was created.
This will be a centralized place to ask: is this article I found tropeworthy? Does it convey meaning or is it used to tell the story, or is it just something that happens to exist in a work? Ask here, and hopefully you will get the answers you need.
Remember, something that is "(people sit on) chairs" means it's happenstance or conveys no meaning. Something that also happens in real life, is common, is rare, or seems minor is not the same as being chairs.
As an additional note, keep this in mind when bringing tropes in, as noted by amathieu13:

I think the closest we have to a negative dog stereotype is Dogs Are Dumb
As pointed out though, this is the wrong thread for this.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallI dont know what Can't Un-Hear It is supposed to be. I dont think its tropable, it is very vague and unclear. One example says "THE voice for the character" while others go "This voice actor is so associated with a character, they cant really make the characters distinct". I think the later has another trope for it and I dont think the first makes a real trope.
As long as this flower is in my heart. My Strength will flow without end.I think the idea is that fans get so used to an actor's voice that they cannot separate their voice from the character even in other media. It's an Audience Reaction, so it's hard to say if it's chairsy or not.

Isn’t that what Hey Its That Voice used to be?
Although that trope had much bigger issues.
Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallI don't know what Hey Its That Voice was meant to be, that was more of people just recognizing voices though. This is more like... HP fans reading Snape's book dialogue in the voice of Alan Rickman.

Oh I see. It is different then - Hey Its That Voice was (supposed to be for) when voice actors became associated with specific roles, not the other way around.
Yeah, it's characters who get associated with specific portrayals.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallFWIW, Can't Un-Hear It is on TNTRS for being an unnecessary subtype of Audience-Coloring Adaptation (which has a more clearly-defined scope).
Your goateed philistine is sashaying towards us. | 🧱Should we add a sentence to the OP mentioning that if you want input on whether a proposed trope is tropeworthy, you go to the Sounding Board? And/or rename the thread to something that'll make clearer that it's for existing tropes? It's been a few days since the last time this came up but it has come up a few times and someone actually tried to direct someone here for input on their proposed trope before War Jay set them straight

Is Stereotypes of Chinese People redudnant with Asian Index?
Edited by Amonimus on Nov 3rd 2024 at 4:25:22 PM
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupI guess the former is for Chinese-specific stereotypes, while the latter is for all Asians. I'm not sure if it's necessary though.
Would Interchangeable Latino cultures be trope worthy since people mostly mistake other Latinos as Mexicans. Most notably in one episode of Family Guy after Brian was fired from Home Depot he accused Stewie of having the idea of a shaken up soda can from three Mexicans only for Stewie to clarify that one was Guatemalan.
Sounds workable but it isn't a confusion of culture, it's Americans assuming every Hispanic is Mexican because that's what people are most exposed to
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallThere's a joke in Arrested Development where GOB mentions that they're hiring Mexican workers for the company's latest construction project. When Michael points out that those men are actually Colombian, GOB dismisses this as Political Overcorrectness.

Isn't this just Mistaken Nationality but more specific? (Then again, we already have Interchangeable Asian Cultures.)
2025: the year it all ends?I've been mulling over this for a little while, but what's the actual purpose of No Periods, Period? I get the basic logic behind it (The Law of Conservation of Detail), but what makes it different from just another thing that's very common irl but no one wants to talk about for privacy-related reasons, like needing to scrub specific body parts in the shower?
Your goateed philistine is sashaying towards us. | 🧱It's like Nobody Poops, something that's so universal in fiction that's only noteworthy when averted or lampshaded.
Fjón þvæ ég af mér fjanda minna rán og reiði ríkra manna. What actually makes it "universal", though? Nobody Poops I get, since people in the real world use the bathroom daily, but there are plenty of work scenarios where periods wouldn't be expected by default—Free-Range Children, male characters having the most screen time, the target demographic being too young, a Time Skip, 75% of the Otherness Tropes (most of which involve non-humans who otherwise do need to excrete in some way that just isn't mentioned), etc. It seems more like the lack of a trope; aversions are often just "periods are mentioned in any capacity", which is chairs.

Your goateed philistine is sashaying towards us. | 🧱Is Fight Dracula just Dracula as Monster of the Week? If it's still tropeworthy, isn't it too specific and could use other public domain villains?
TroperWall / WikiMagic Cleanup

It's explicitly a stereotype in the Islamic cultural sphere, and even more positive depictions use Toilet Humor fairly often. Roadside Romeo, The Secret Life of Pets, Cats & Dogs, and Agatha Raisin are some examples Also, there are already 2 tropes dedicated to dog-related Toilet Humor and a third that's commonly used for dogs. It can also be a supertrope to them.
