That just makes me more excited, knowing what awesome stuff is ahead. Though I admit, I am a little nervous of the possibility the anime won't make it all the way. I think they could do it by the end of season 4, but will it get a fourth season is a concern.

The Dangers In My Heart: Apparently a top-tier romcom, and also apparently the lead guy fantasizes about murder all the time.

He stops after the first few chapters

On Doctor Stone: Shonen Jump "Battle" anime always have had difficulty grabbing me, with some old-school exceptions (like City Hunter). And Dr. Stone just didn't. I kinda realized it's just The Flintstones in a shonen manga skin.

Okay, y'all know I was joking about the dissapointed thing, right? I don't actually have anything against people not watching Dr. Stone, you don't have to explain yourselves. [lol]

@ Hylarn Thanks for explaining the Kizuna Ai situation. I guess I'll see where the anime goes. Low expectations here.

@ Mami I figured that would be the case, but nonetheless it's an interesting initial hook.

Looks to be another slow-ass season, honestly. The two titles in my guaranteed watch (Kimetsu and Gundam) feel like obligation more than excitement, and the ones I want to check out are not ones I have high hopes for.

It's been fun.

For me the season itself looks packed.

The issue is, there are 3 titles I am watching 100% (two sequels and an adaptation of the manga I like), but most of everything else is in the cathegory "I want to give it a try, but I don't want to unless it is actually good".

Diddyknux, if it makes you feel any better, Dr Stone is one of the anime I'm looking forward to the most.

Also super excited for Demon Slayer and Konosuba: Megumin Edition. I'm watching Oshi no Ko because it's by Aka Akasaka and I've heard really good things about it. I might watch some other anime debuting this season as well.

Clear prop!

As per Reuben Lack, the senior manager of English Dubbing at Disney, the anime adaptation of Heavenly Delusion will be simulcasted, which means it'll stream internationally at the same time as it is in Japan. (Though for westerners, they'll need to look for it on Hulu, because the story's very much un-Disney.)

It's also getting a dub, but that's coming later.

This might be a big deal because, last I checked, it took a while for D+ anime to show up globally.

Tokyo Revengers S2 also had a simulcast with the Japanese release too, though this one is what helps communications better.

Also, based on his comments, the dub may air around a month after the launch of the simulcast, which means it could air around late April or early May.

Initial Reactions:
Tengoku Daimakyou: A pretty calm start. The one thing that caught my eye was the establishing character moment for Kiruko and Maru the fact that they have Anis's and Finn's seiyuus respectively. Next episode is probably going to be where the more hellish stuff beings to rear its head...
Jigokuraku: Mainly intro... So we have a high-death-count monster of a ninja set up for death due to betrayal, but he just won't die because deep inside, he's resisting for a love he tasted once that thawed him, and the start of a journey to some place to get an immortal elixir with the price of freedom... Ok then, with the action here, this'll definitely be interesting. The OP's a bit iffy tho...
Edens Zero S2: AAAAAND WE'RE BACK! Ahh, it's been a while! Thanks for the recap, Xiaomei! Now, it seems that things are moving a bit quicker than I thought, but eh, at least it'll be straight into the action soon, right?

  • The Dangers in my Heart: So already I do not care for Kyotaro, weird how mixing the Cringelord and Murderous Impulse traits could lead to a very unappealing MC. Meanwhile, Anna's a hell of a lot more entertaining in her silliness, but I can't see her carrying the whole show on her own, unfortunately. Might give it another episode or two to see if Kyotaro improves, but I'm not too optimistic.

  • My Love Story with Yamada at Lv 999: Now this is more to my taste. Nice animation and colouring, fun faces, likeable protag... it helps that I can see Yamada being a socially-awkward loner that can actually be nice to someone, as opposed to Cringe Mc Gee up there. I'll be checking this one out for sure, Akane's a lot of fun to watch. Also, fuck ex-BF guy.

Here is me, taking series I did not plan again, but whatever...

Tengoku Daimakyou is strange but intereting. I like the main pair (not sure about orphanage children yet). Let's hope it will be more serious and more clever than Neverland.

Jigokuraku is intriguing. Yes, it has this shounen vibes yet again with superpowers, monsters and whatever. But it looks like one of this more mature shonens that have a blod and other disturbing things but does not go overly edgy. Also, interesting twist that MC is already married (now I wonder what role main heroine will play). Also, both OP and ED are grat, not sure how you can find it iffy (different taste). I may regret it later but I am watching it.

Kaguya movie also came out on CR as 4-episode mini-series, but only two are up yet. Waiting for the whole thing to binge-watch it.

[up][up] Please, you and anyone who feels weird about The Dangers in my Heart after this first chapter, continue watching it, since it's one of the best rom-com mangas currently running, in grand part due to the great character developements the series presents. I mean, there is a reason why for 3 years it topped and eventually won the "Mangas we want to see animated" contest in Japan (and would have won again the fourth year if allowed to compete).

Or, if you decide to stop for now, wait to see the positive response ([down] like the one below, for example) in a couple months, and then binge it so you don't have too keep suffer weekly while the cringe goes away and gives place to great stuff.

Jigoraku- it was okay. I think I felt more strongly about the "you love your wife" scene in the manga and all the expositioning while necessary (I don't think show don't tell is some iron clad rule or anything) started to feel tiring at a point. Yeah okay just about sums it, I won't be keeping up with the anime.

Heavenly delusion- this was my favourite first episode today and by a long shot. The direction is beautiful, the sound direction is lovely and with context of so many later reveals in the manga it makes so many parts I dismissed when I first read so much more exciting and sad. God I love this story despite his triggering some of its later content is going to be.

Bokuyaba- maybe it's because I have context from the manga but compared to when I read it I felt the anime made it much more obvious that Ichikawa is just an embarrassing cutie with one too many chunni delusions. He falls apart the moment Yamada makes eye contact, constantly and awkwardly tries to help her out when she's in a bind and he's just cute, he's just so cute! I want to ruffle his hair, what the heck? Yamada is also very lovely with how much of a weirdo she is and the anime does a good job of showing off her charm points and doofy points. Shout outs to the cat scene, that was amazing lol. Second favourite premier so far, I will be seated.

Let me join in on the Spring anime mini-reviews, too!

First Impressions

  • Yamada-kun to Lv999 no Koi wo Suru: My first taste of this season's crop of romance anime, and I adore it! This was a very standard opening, but the direction is pleasingly simple and clean. I didn't expect Akane to give me major Chihayafuru vibes, but she did for some reason (same-ish character design and energy, I guess), and I was grinning a bit from all her expressions. Yamada himself is dull as aloof, dark-haired pretty boy cardboard but that's how it's supposed to be, the author is making some room for improvement. Continuing.
  • Jigokuraku: First episode adapted the first manga chapter quite nicely, down to the almost meditative pacing and that alluring hint of Paradise. What I'm waiting to see is if the anime will steamline some of the later content, but as far as first episodes go, this did its job. Continuing.
  • The Dangers in my Heart: So what I'm getting is that Ichikawa is a socially awkward introvert who copes with his insecurities by being an edgelord with fantasies of violence. Not entirely unrelatable, but it does kinda drag when we're spending huge chunks of time on his boring internal narration ("oh my god she's eating potato chips" zzzz). It's one thing I feel probably flows better in manga format. However, the anime does have its perks; I especially liked the inspired touch of having Ichikawa's POV shot be partially obscured by his hair. Might have been hit with a little hype backlash on this one, but I'm willing to give the tiny gremlin some time to grow. Continuing.
  • Heavenly Delusion: We have two running plot threads in their own sketchy sci-fi settings: a facility for rearing children which is bound to have its fair share of dark secrets, and the wide expanse of post-apocalyptic Japan, infested with misshapen monstrosities. The premise is already a homerun in my book, but the telling of the story elevates it. Very organic exposition and dialogue, almost movie-level animation for both the action-heavy scenes and more subtle, mundane movements, incredibly creative framing for a bunch of shots, pitch perfect sound direction... it's sublime. Agreeing with everyone here, this was the strongest premiere of the season so far, and I do not see anything else topping it. Definitely, definitely continuing.

Tense atmosphere, pretty suspenseful scenes, and a protagonist with some amount of stealth... Good luck Tetsuo; you're gonna need it... Hope this'll help me keep me up at night...

  • My Home Hero: So putting aside that painfully forced conversation from the yakuza guys ("yo dude how many times did you beat up your girlfriend, who by the way is named Reika, a name I will confirm despite having zero reason to give half a shit what her name would be, my woman-beating brother in crime"), this seems pretty neat. Ordinary salaryman vs the criminal underworld should make for a thrilling story... and I have hope that the rest of the yakuza aren't as utterly stupid as Nobuto, who hears a noise inside his closet, then receives a phone call from someone obviously whispering two seconds later, and still has to be directly told to look inside the goddamn closet. In short, good premise, somewhat-questionable execution of a few scenes, will be looking forward to more.

[up] Agreed on My Home Hero. Execution is somewhat lacking, which can be fatal for a mystery thriller. More on that below.

First Impressions

  • Tensei Kizoku no Isekai Boukenroku: What can I even put here that wouldn't be regurgitated plot summaries of a thousand other isekai? Nothing. Dropped.
  • My Clueless First Friend: The thing with simple premises is that in order to stand out you need to have good animation, music, writing, etc and unfortunately this doesn't have any of those. It's sortam fun to watch a bundle of energy crash through classroom sociopolitics like a bull in a china shop, especially with all the other kids being mean bullies, but otherwise it's not particularly interesting. In fact the perfunctory animation work makes me feel like reading the manga instead. Trying until episode three.
  • My Home Hero: Okay, I'm a bit conflicted. The basic setup of the plot is highly engaging, but even as someone who has not read the manga, it seems very rushed. The gangsters just conveniently talking out in the open about how they beat up women. The mom was also way too quick to accept that her husband had killed someone. And so on. The animation and direction aren't doing it any favors either, feels like some scenes needed more oomph to capitalize on the unfolding drama. Yeah, this is a bit shaky. Continuing for now, highly considering switching to the manga.

Aaaaaaaand we're back!! The cuteness is as expected, and the badassery is also as expected too! Now to try to remember who most of the supporting cast is because it has been a while...

And now, I'm going to freak out over the fact that I'll get the Tokyo Revengers S2 treatment for Iseleve (as in, I'll be late to the party because streaming overseas is earlier than broadcast, and I'm too broke to subscribe to another service to catch it firsthand)...
