Uramimi is part of the title for the new character from Otaku Elf episode 8. The first two are Taka (Wide ears), and Naka (Long ears).

Episode 8 of Insomniacs After School almost had me squeeing to death. I almost want to thank Shiroumaru for “spoiling” the moment haha.

Shiroumaru is comedy gold, romcoms need more awkward alumni-senpai like her.

Having seen the episode now (for Edomae Elf), I can say that Uramimi is 麗耳 for "lovely ears."

It's been fun.

[up][up]I am grateful they casted one of my favorite seiyuu for her. She's been stuck in trsundere main heroine roles to much as of late.

Well to recap, I think these would be my favorite Spring 2023 anime as of now:

Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku

Heavenly Delusion

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury (Season 2)

Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village Arc

Insomniacs After School

Ranking of Kings: The Treasure Chest of Courage

Also, Golden Kamuy (Season 4) if it counts.

I'm counting Golden Kamuy and no one can stop me.

And holy hell, this season is great. Thee big hitters are hitting hard, but a lot of the lower key shows I'm watching are honestly decent. Freaking KamiKatsu is leveraging its gimmick much better than I expected it to; Dakini's backstory was pretty neat.

I think for the rest of the season I'm gonna wait for the english dub episodes of Dr. Stone. I just vibe with it so much more.

So the current dub episode was "Ray Of Despair, Ray Of Hope." And Kohaku's VA, Felicia Angelle, seemed like she had fun this episode. Several great lines and gags from Kohaku.

...Oh yeah, and our ship was Petrified.

In this week's Dr. Stone dub, several of the actors were unavailable to record, due to traveling for cons. I guess it might've been a short notice thing, because the episode has Matt Shipman doing Senku and... Well, usually he's a fantastic actor, but I can't not hear Chrome when he talks.

[up]Wait, how often does that happen in dubs? I have only checked a few non-One Piece dubs, plus I haven't been listening to the current season dubbed version of Dr. Stone (was probably going to chech it when it was complete), but this is the first time I heard of them just switching actors on the fly like that. I don't know, I would prefer a small delay over a stick-out-like-a-sore-thumb episode, unless they re-dub it, but i don't know if they will.

When occasions like this occur, they do go back and re-dub it with the proper actor, at least for the home video release. I don't know Crunchyroll's track record with updating an episode like that for the streaming service. Funimation's streaming was really good about eventually updating all their shows with an uncut option, which would include any revisions like that. But I don't know about the Crunchyroll app.

Is anybody familiar with both the manga and the anime for Oshi no Ko?

I suspect the anime director has a habit of chopping out comedy in favor of twee sentimentality (Asteroid in Love, WATATEN!: an Angel Flew Down to Me), and I want to know if there's a noticeable upswing in Glurge compared to the manga.

No if anything the anime can't quite convey certain scenes with the same dramatic intensity as the manga.

I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boys

Auuugh... I thought Dr. Stone was gonna continue straight through summer, but no, the second half of the season won't be until October.

Final Reactions:
Dr. Stone S3 (1st Cour): So far, pretty much a straight adaptation, but apart from the petrification of most of the crew, I can't really find anything notable... Still, I enjoyed it, and I can't wait for the continuation in October, where the action will definitely keep me glued to the screen!
Ousama Ranking: Yuuki no Takarabako: Seeing all these stories get expounded on and seeing additional content from beyond the scope of the first season, I feel yet another rollercoaster of emotions! But it looks like there's going to be more Ousama Ranking in the future given that there's gonna be a very special announcement next week...

For me, the English Dub in particular is a big part of the appeal of the anime Dr. Stone. I just think every voice actor is fantastic in their role.

I haven't really read much of the manga prior to the Treasure Island arc, just a few scattered chapters, so I don't really know how straightforward or elaborated those arcs adaptions for the anime were. I do feel like the Ryusui special did a good job at actually enhancing a lot of the manga material, but the season proper I think adapted the ship building more-or-less panel for panel from the manga. I think only recently has the anime really started to strike a good balance in expanding the material again.

The Dangers In My Heart adaption ends with another good episode, and an announcement of a season 2 coming already in January. The anime's score on MAL has risen from it's episode 1 low to a decent one too. This has been a good day for a fan of the series.

  • My Home Hero: Given that we started with the most forced and contrived method possible, just to make sure Tetsuo knew who Nobuto was, I guess it figures the last episode would have to contrive a super believeable reason for the police not to try and enter that apartment despite the six trillion red flags going on. For the most part, it was a pretty fun ride that had me wondering how Tetsuo was going to get out of any given situation. Also, damn if Kasen isn't one of the most dedicated wives in anime. I can't help but feel as if the anime felt a bit... stiff, at times? I dunno, maybe I just would've liked them to go full Death Note to spice a couple things up, but I can't think of any scene that felt outright badly animated, at least. Love the OP and ED for this, too. Meaningless ide note: The hell was up with all that Reika hate I was seeing elsewhere? It was utterly baffling.

  • Demon Slayer: So that was a really good season, overall. Low point was certainly the Gyokko battle, it felt pretty heavily padded out and slow - things like Tokito learning how to troll on purpose, or Gyokko freaking out over Haganezuka's focus were fine, but the fight itself just lacked much in the way of oomph. Now, the Hatengu fight, that was pretty fun and flashy for almost the entire bout. I can nitpick a few things like Tanjiro utilising thunder breathing suddenly, or just... everything about Genya's nature, but the way things came together, especially for that last episode, it was great to watch. Nezuko coming back got to me. It was the most blatantly obvious fake out ever conceived, but god did it still feel great to watch. Can't wait to see how ufotable tops themselves again next season.

Final Impressions

  • Ranking of Kings: Treasure Chest of Courage: A nice collection of side stories, with a good mix of slice-of-life segments, heartwarming flashbacks and meaty lore drops. Especially liked how we got to see how Bosse Kingdom was functioning under Bojji's, and then Daida's, rule. The last two episodes aren't even side stories; rather, they're a direct continuation from the end of the previous season, and they've properly whet my appetite for more.
  • The Dangers In My Heart: I'm planning a Spring 2023 romance anime roundup when everything's finished airing, but for now, I have to admit, this ended up better than first impressions suggested. I'm not that fond of either Ichikawa or Yamada, truth be told, but I did get fonder of them as the anime went on. What really caught my eye is the amount of care put into the production. The subtle tells of body language, the artistic karte cut-ins, the sway of the BGM, it all captures the wistfulness of puppy love. Especially when Yamada starts becoming bolder in her approach. Glad to know that a second season is on the way.
  • My Home Hero: How appropriate for this to end on Father's Day. Fairly interesting How to Get Away With Murder 101 on paper, but the execution leaves much to be desired. It's missing a bunch of nuts and bolts to tighten up the story (like how the wife was immediately on board with hiding a corpse), and related to that, some of the contrivances stretch believability to breaking point. Overall, a crime thriller that fell short of its potential.
  • Kimetsu no Yaiba: I'd like to say the latest arc is the worst one, but it's more like the arc where Demon Slayer's flaws aren't compensated for by its strengths. Seriously, the fights are godawful, the snippets of actual good combat few and far between. It doesn't help that apart from Tanjiro and Nezuko, I don't really like any of the other people involved. Mitsuri is bubbly and cute and voiced by one of my favorite seiyuu but that's about it. Tokito is as dull as cardboard, Genya continues the streak of Tanjiro's companions being annoying and loud, and the two Upper Ranks they fight in this arc are somehow the least intimidating demons we've seen in the show. The finale kinda makes up for it with Nezuko being able to walk in the sunlight and speak again, which is super heartwarming. But aside from that part, you could scrap this arc and nothing of alue would have been lost.

I saw it pointed out somewhere that Genya is both more aggro and less competent than Tanjiro, which makes him a pretty solid replacement for both of Tanjiro's buddies.

It's been fun.

As expected of Yuna, though apart from the last episode getting things pretty serious for one moment, this season's been more camouflaged really, nothing much standing out... Nevertheless, it was enjoyable!
