Loving this show so far. Funny, action-packed and cute as hell.
I'm not going to pretend this would have gotten the green light if it weren't for SPY×FAMILY but they're both still enjoyable in their own right.
Rei sure does clean up nicely when he needs to kill people.
You are not alone. Is Kongming anime original? I'd look it up but instead I gotta watch that opening another dozen times.
You are not alone.
I guess that's coming out later today? Rei is gonna be voice by David Matranga who did Todoroki which this episode reveals will mean he's seemingly typecast as guys with father issues.
Speaking of, I figured there was a chance that they'd say "No Homo" by making Kazuki the primary father and Rei'd just be an Honorary Uncle type. This episode seems to have taken that theory out into the backyard and shot it.
You are not alone.Funnily enough, Shoto's mom is named Rei
I've been seeing clips of this show passed around on Twitter and I'm interested in watching, but I feel like I wanna wait just a bit for a few episodes to pass first.
Honestly I feel like Ep 3 is definitely the "Pass or Fail" episode. The flashbacks we see of Rei and Kazuki explain a LOT about their attitudes and the emotional drama really hit home.
You are not alone.
There’s the concept of a “three episode rule” but I feel like it really varies from series to series.
Anyway, episode 3, where Kazuki and Rei go visit Miri’s real mom and predictably she’s not a great example of one. Think the writing was a bit too heavy-handed at points like when Rei explicitly asks Kazuki “are you sure about giving Miri back to her mom”) which I think is a good sign because that means I’m critiquing the writing somewhat seriously. As ShirowShirow also mentions, we get some glimpses into the daddies’ pasts, specifically how they themselves do not have the best experience with father figures.
Also my favorite small gag about this series is Rei having the same tastes as Miri.

Yeah, different series have a "Hook" episode that varies a lot on when it is. Ideally that's the first episode but TBH only a few series have managed to nail it right away, stuff like Talentless Nana or Squid Game. I've been enjoying this show from the beginning, but Ep 3 told me it's something special.
Watching the dub now. I'm gonna have to rewatch the first episode because I didn't remember them having legitimate christmas jingles with the Japanese audio. Also Japanese!Kazuki says "Thank you!" and English!Kazuki says "Arigato!"
Generally I feel like it's episode 1 is the "hook" and usually spends most of it's runtime building to the big reveal. Episode 2 is dealing with the immediate fallout of the reveal at the end of episode 1 (often resolving a cliffhanger if there was one) and expanding on the premise and episode 3 establishes the "status quo" of the series once it's got the necessary, introductory stuff out of the way.
I saw some comments that this was initially planned as a light novel a few years ago but got put under the rug. They decided to remake it into anime script now (probably because of Spy x Family success).
I like the series so far, hope it will keep the pace.
Also, there are some discussions regarding Miri's mom, as on one hand she is pretty bad parent and it's her own fault for choosing wrong men in her life. But on the other hand she managed to keep herself from abusing Miri and, apparently, getting an abortion in Japan is pretty complicated.
Miri's mom has clearly suffered a lot of abuse. It's (unfortunately) a pretty accurate portrayal of someone that's been through the things she has.
She winds up in a healthy relationship by the end of the show but in a twist it's with the plump kindergarten teacher from the OP who has Miri in her class.

You are not alone.Episode 4: Finally finding Miri a daycare. Also Kazuki and Rei finding how difficult it is to be papas.
Comedic timing is on point this episode, especially whenever Rei tries to slink off and Kazuki pulls him back, complete with abrupt cut of the rousing BGM. The daycare moms also highly appreciate the presence of two hot daddies hahaha. Though my favorite part of the episode is our dorky family discovering the existence of a 398 yen thrift store. It might be the happiest we’ve ever seen Rei be.
Also apparently Japanese kids are sensitive to brand-name fashion. I’m pretty sure when I was their age I didn’t care what clothes I was trucking mud on til my mom chewed me out for it. Good thing they didn’t stretch out that issue too much, at least.
Damn, I want to watch it on CR as always but ep. 4 does not show for me yet. I hate their site sometimes.
- UPD: nevermind, Google still saw it. Damn hashing.
- UPD 2: Pretty heartwarming and funny episode. A bit to much gay jokes for mty taste but whatever. I really hope this series won't get delayed as other Aniplex projects this season.

An episode with pretty much nothing but feel-good family slice of life in a series that opened with a bloody gunfight. Hilariously adorable.
The bit with the daycare mamas trying to keep their cool and then freaking out over group chat was aces seriously that joke lands hard.
Oh and we got properly introduced to the plump daycare woman. Miss Anna huh. I like her.
I wonder if I can contract these two to assassinate the guy from Bunny Drop.
You are not alone.

An original anime by PA Works. Looking forward to seeing more of this.
Also, another jazzy OP.
PS - Buddy Daddies page is already up, but I didn't make it though.
