My bigger problem is that it was released so early in the year which rarely get nominated. It just didn't have enough impact for me to buy that voters would even remember it for anything beyond technical categories. Though, I could be wrong.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadDo you guys think Denzel Washington could win Best Supporting Actor?
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI don't know Wicked is going to win some technical awards too. Dune part 2 will win a lot but I don't see it replicating the exact same number as the first part.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI think it is more specifically the second Lord of the Rings (since we know a third part is coming soon) which did not win as much as the first or third parts. I see the first part and the third part winning a lot more then part 2. If that makes sense.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadThe cynical take on the technical Oscars is that the voters tend to give it to the movie that has The Most of the category. Most Costumes, Most Sound Design...
Do you think Challengers will get anything?
Do you guys think Timothée Chalamet is more likely to be nominated for Dune or A Complete Unknown?

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadSo, apparently Dune 2
's score is not eligible for Best Original Score but the creators still submitted it.
After watching the list of the best 10 films according to the American Film Institute
- Film/Anora
- THE BRUTALIST
- A Complete Unknown
- Film/Conclave
- Dune: Part Two
- Emilia Pérez
- NICKEL BOYS
- A Real Pain
- SING SING
- Wicked: Part I
I realize that we have some genuine competitors in the form of The Brutalist, Conclave and Dune Part Two, and others that I really need to take a look, while I loathe a couple of them: Emilia Perez and Wicked Part I
As a Mexican, I feel really offended of how French filmmakers took on Mexican issues so lightly and did not even have time to ask how a Mexican speaks and behaves. I would overlook anything good in this film because of this. So, for me, this is my least favourite candidate.
In the case of Wicked, I just have the feeling that is having the same impact as Barbie, so I am not expecting much of this one.

I have been wondering how Emilia Perez was perceived abroad. Too bad it hasn't been discussed here on tvt.
I liked the film, but then I don't speak Spanish and know next to nothing about Mexico.
This film caused some nice moments during the Cannes festival, and one of them was Karla Sofía Gascón receiving the award.

Heard mixed things about the film. Some people on social media view it as kinda clichéd and for a cis audience, compared to the more avant garde trans movies that came out in 20204 (I Saw the TV Glow and The People's Joker), but also these critics have all been American so there's a cultural bias possibility.

Take in account, I am not again the idea of the film or if the main character is a transgender character, but about how easy is for someone far from Mexico to provide a view from a country (I remember another French movie where the last scene happens "in Mexico" and just because everyone look like a 50s ranchero film and Thalia was on the soundtrack)... and the Mexican reviews, taking in account these views are loathing that part (apart of asking for apologies to Selena Gomez for questioning her Spanish level)...

Oh, I was operating under the assumption it was a movie made in Mexico by Mexican creators. A film about a Mexican trans woman made by a French, cis man director? Not saying it will automatically be the worst Theme Park Version of both themes but I'm not exactly optimistic.
[ed.] oh it's a "musical dramedy". Hoo boy.

Good to know, will skip that one (Emilia Perez).
I liked Conclave.
Dune Part II was fairly good but didn’t make a very strong impression on me. I did like that it made it very clear that the ending was a tragedy, not a victory. I didn’t even realize there would be a Part III!
I detest brutalist architecture, which makes me not want to watch The Brutalist.

Yeah, the Academy usually leans closer towards the critic consensus than the audience one.
