Did I miss a Matt Damon joke? I had to step away from the TV for a bit.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup thread
At the very end, it cuts to the dog from Anatomy of a Fall pissing on Matt Damon's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Well, I HOPE Nolan doesn’t get a swelled head and declare that this is the end of the age of franchises and IP again.

You’re Gonna Carry That Weight.^That seems... like an out of pocket accusation.
I'm not as jazzed about Oppenheimer as the Academy seems to be, and my "robbed!!!!" list is fairly long — but overall, no controversial or surprising winners. It was still a largely enjoyable ceremony because everyone (except Kimmel, boo, give us a host who actually likes watching movies next time) seemed very sincere.
I think Messi was ABOUT to pee on Matt Damon's Star, but didn't actually through. Haha. That was so strange that he wasn't there, ESPECIALLY because Oppenheimer won so big tonight.
Then again, maybe it was to not pull attention away from it too. That would make sense.
Ariana Grande with Song and Al Pacino with Best Picture both just cut through the BS. Haha. Each one wasted no time.
Also, Emma Stone's face when she won? She CLEARLY didn't want to take it from Lily Gladstone. One reporter theorized the possibility of a tie early today.
That would've been amazing.

No, I can remember his saying that last year in response to Oppenheimer making bank at the box office.
I’m not saying the award is undeserved. Far from it.
You’re Gonna Carry That Weight.
But 'swelled head' is very accusatory phrasing. What does IP have to do with the Oscars, anyway?

(My heart says Gosling robbed, my head says it is not the kind of performance that tends to be awarded, while RDJ's was!)
I think it had the strongest shot in Costumes and Production Design — there was so much buzz for it when the film was coming out, articles on articles on vintage Chanel, how they built the Dreamhouses, etcetera. But that was long ago in the awards cycle timeline and Poor Things is more recent and also very imaginative.

I also wanna point out that the Boy and the Heron is the first PG-13 best animated feature winner. Hopefully, this encourages, at least gradually, more theatrical animations for older kids.
You’re Gonna Carry That Weight. For the first time in 21 years and just for the second time ever has a 2D animated film won the Oscar, I knew Miyazaki could pull it off.
Also looks like this was the second year in a row were the Oscars were surprisingly uncontroversial for the most part.

I did not know this was Robert Downey Jr.'s first Oscar. For some reason, I thought he already had one.
Like creepy stories? Check out my book! It's crazy how starting almost an hour early—or hour and an half early since they've sometimes started at 8:30–somehow incentivized them to end on time. Wondering how they pulled that off. Haha.
One reason I can think of why they did was because DST started this weekend and that starting early was meant to combat that somehow.
