Dark Sun, what choices have I...?

Atop and above an anthill

Lachesis didn't seem quite sure how to enter the conversation, now with two newcomers, so instead gave a passing glance upward where the last ladybug had made itself someone else's problem. "I could do a quick check up there. First, though, I need to wait for—Spindly! Up there!" she called up to the air.

Above, the ladybug dodged just in time to mostly avoid being burnt to a crisp, though not in time to prevent being subsequently turned into Swiss cheese, and apparently this was a particularly stubborn ladybug, because for its last act it decided to move toward that source of flame and attempt to tackle Lio into the air. Spindly, who had turned back into a staff and been in the process of flying back down, abruptly stopped in midair, watching the scene and prepared to intervene if anyone were to, say, start falling to their death.

The arcade, inside and out

Lucky for the group who had been distracted by arguing, the spider was apparently quite timid, and simply hearing Trevor's whip behind it while it was focused on Zan was enough to spook it into simply scuttling off, along the bottom of the bridge. Here's hoping it didn't ruin someone else's day instead...

At the computer, Nia would get a quick response:

Guest: Is this the Developer guy I've been hearing about? Are my friends safe and are my Blades still alive?
Developer: [Affirmative[ Yes.

"The spider wandered to that spot of its own accord; it was not placed there," TESTER answered Mai flatly. One of his screens flashed an image of the empty web where it used to be; in the background, the spider itself could faintly be seen making its escape. "In any case, it is unlikely to bother you in the near future."

Base of the arcade tree

It would take some roaming around the base of the tree, but Brigitte and co. would eventually find a 6x5 grid of mushrooms growing out of one of the sides. Underneath was neatly carved the English word 'STAIRS', and in the last column (above the second S), the first, fourth, and fifth mushroom from the top were glowing. It looked a little like this:

O O O O O X
O O O O O O
O O O O O O
O O O O O X
O O O O O X
S T A I R S

Somewhere amid the branches

"My bad, I guess." Akechi shrugged; it didn't seem like he was too fussed about his mistake. "Let's see...as a test case, why don't we take a trip from one notable location to another? Ah, but the Arcade doesn't move, so we should pick somewhere else. I also recall claims that one could keep a location in place relative to oneself by keeping an eye on it, so Stocking-san should be able to make reasonable time by flight. If we can make comparable time by using the map, we can consider that a success...of course, it'd take multiple trials to be sure that success isn't a fluke, but it's better than nothing."

From the air, it was hard to make out specific locations amid the foliage and tree trunks, but Stocking would be able to make out a large building with a crude star atop it relatively nearby, and some other interesting-looking places further off.

As the gang was discussing their next course of action, a certain canine messenger happened to appear and disappear like a ghost. The black blur briefly caught the detective's eye, but he didn't seem to think it a high priority.

Daisy Buchanan, Base of the Arcade Tree

Daisy took one quick look at Gustaff, noting that it only has one good hand for climbing. She then listened to what Brigitte and Cheetor said.

"I'm fine with climbing up Cheetor but I suppose we should look around this tree."

Some time roaming around the base of the Arcade later, and Daisy stumbles upon the grid of mushrooms and the word "STAIRS" engraved beneath them. She studied the mushrooms, figuring out that it might be a puzzle and she tried to find the pattern between them. However, she was simply unable to dicypher whatever code the mushrooms hide.

"By the looks of it, this is the puzzle Brigitte was talking about it. If we can solve it, then the stairs leading to the Arcade would appear. But I can't wrap my head around whatever puzzle this is!" That isn't her "Beautiful Little Fool" facade speaking. She was legitimately unsure of what puzzle the mushrooms are supposed to represent.

Tron Bonne - Piloting Gustaff - Base of the Arcade tree

"Right" Was all Tron had to say about Brigitte's comment about the door possibly being disguised.

As they looked the Gustaff pushed a few spots with it's hand as well, though given it's size and relative lack of dexterity Tron was looking more for structural weaknesses than hidden buttons, for now.
Once the mushrooms were found she almost felt silly since the arrangement was so obviously meant to be interacted with. "Pretty hard to miss that, let's see..." It took a few moments, but then the front hatch of the Gustaff popped open and Tron stepped out and up to the mushrooms and started poking them. Assuming that was all it took to activate them her solution would be

x x o o x x
o o o x o o
o x o o o o
x o o o x x
x o x x o x

Mai Shiranui, Arcade

Mai breathed out as she watched the spider leave via the screen. She moved away from TESTER and turned to look Zan, figuring she ought to greet her.

"I'm Mai Shiranui!" She smiled and bowed to the demon woman. "I saw you wanted to kill that bug... Thanks."

"And thank you, Shantae and Sayaka!" Mai yelled out to two of her other companions. "Spiders... I dislike spiders when they're normal-sized! I don't want to even be near a giant man-eating spider!"

Mai shook in fear of meeting that spider again, before checking herself over, "...Wait, where's my umbrella?"

Mai's umbrella was still outside the Arcade around where she fell. She didn't exactly grab it while she was fleeing the spider in terror.

Donnie, Playing the Waiting Game

"We would, yes, but given the new arrivals...and the mud..." Donnie involuntarily shuddered. "We'd be better off heading to the Arcade."

He tapped a few keys on his wrist-mounted gadget, bringing up a holographic menu. "Given time, I should be able to triangulate the building's position for both coordinates and the fastest possible route, so until then..."

He lifted his gaze to where "Spindly" was flying amongst the branches. "...we will wait on the flying staff."

(Donnie wondered when he got to the point he could say that sentence and it would make complete sense.)

"Look inside yourself and to the stars; there, you will find your answers."

Nia, Arcade: Reassurance

The Gormotti breathed a sigh of relief when she got her answer. Although Nia is certain that her group can take care of themselves, she just wanted to make sure from the guy that brought her there. She hesitated to demand a return trip, knowing that all the rest of them would do the same thing, only to be denied. She only gave the Developer one more question. By now, they must have already met with the Praetor, so she's concerned about what happens after.

What are they doing now?

When she gets her answer, she gave him a thanks before she closed the app and walked away. With her thoughts clear of rage, for the most part, she approaches the half-genie and her friends. She clears her throat and speaks to them, "Sorry 'bout all that. Still got a lot of stress from me being away and I didn't want you to just charge recklessly."

"I treasure every day with you, darling." "No need to be so sappy, love." "You know that's how she is, Nia." - AU!Pyra, Nia, Mythra

The Arcade
Mai also came to the table with the newcomer in tow, she asked about the spider to TESTER whether it was his doing. But the machine answered that the spider was merely minding it’s own business. Upon hearing this Buzz jus sighed knowing what had already happened: “Well…at least we know it’s not a threat to us. It’s gone now.”

Nia also arrived and then started apologising to everyone around her. Buzz acknowledged her apology and gave her an understanding nod to show that he accepted it. “I think we’ve all been caught up in the moment. And I probably should have handled this situation better.” He replied to her sadly, this really felt like a hollow moment they had arrived at their destination but at what cost?

Base of the arcade tree

As soon as Tron hit the last mushroom, all the inactive ones began to glow green, and with a loud noise a series of—what else—stairs arose in a spiral pattern from the tree trunk, painted in primary colors and looking much more polished than any of the bridges thus far.

Easy puzzle, indeed.

Brigitte Lindholm - Grön armor - Arcade tree base - Lite-brite puzzle.

Brigitte was actually expecting a more subtle, blended with the environment style puzzle, so the appearance of the very obvious mushrooms made her raise an eyebrow. Daisy didn't seem to have any idea on them. "I think it might be..." Brigitte's quiet mutter trailed off as Tron moved forward in her mech, then popped out and very easily solved the puzzle. When the solution worked and the stairs appeared, Brigitte snapped her fingers.

"Binary, right? I'm glad you could remember those off the top of your head," Brigitte said to Tron in a grateful tone, then made her way up the colorful staircase. She paused for just a moment with a, "huh?" as she caught a brief glimpse of a furry dog in the corner of her vision, but by the time she looked over it was already gone. She blinked, then shook her head, and kept going.

Galo and Lio, Attack of the Ladybug:

"Listen, that ladybug-" Lio started, only to be interrupted by being tackled by the bug in question into the air. Fortunately, Lio was not going to let a little thing like that stop him, and fired off powerful twin jets of flame from his hands which propelled him upwards before he could fall to his doom. "Oh, you son of a bitch! I'm gonna make you regret that!"

He flew forwards towards the ladybug, opening his mouth wide before unleashing a massive cone of flame from his maw with a deafening roar of rage, enveloping the ladybug in fire once again. He was fully intent on finishing off the creature this time.

"HELL YEAH! GO LIO!" Galo cheered, jumping up and down and waving his arms to encourage his ally. "WOOT WOOT! KICK THAT THING RIGHT IN THE ASS! KNOCK THAT BIG BUG RIGHT INTO NEXT TUESDAY! YOU CAN DO IT! I BELIEVE IN YOU!"

He almost wished he was a Burnish too, just so he could use his fire to create some pom poms. But nah, fire wasn't his thing. He was a firefighter, lighting up with flames would be against everything he was for! Fire stuff was Lio's job, and right now, Galo could make do without the pom poms. He didn't need them, not really. He could do nicely enough on his own. A megaphone though, now THAT would be sweet...

Narancia exists

As the ladybug was perforated by Aerosmith's guns, Narancia briefly considered dramatically shouting out his catchphrase, but then decided against it because, come on, this was just a freakin' ladybug.

His eyes went a little wide and his mouth opened as he saw Lio freakin' breathe fire like a dragon. Clearly he needed no support, so Narancia had Aerosmith retreat to a further distance to avoid distracting the firebreather.

Shantae looked towards Mai and Nia. She looked Nia over for a moment. Then she smiled.

"Apology accepted, Nia!" she replied. "I kind of lost my temper back there myself," she admitted. "And you're welcome, Mai! I won't turn my back on a friend in need."

Now that Mai had moved on from talking to TESTER, Shantae approached the desk with the various computer screens. She wasn't exactly sure where to look, since she didn't see anything recognizable, but she cleared her throat.

"Mr. TESTER?" she asked. "Just what's going on here today? I woke up and there was a humongous bee outside my window, and now everything's a giant forest and there's huge insects everywhere. What's going on with that?"

Stocking, Amidst Branches > Star Building

There were some interesting buildings in the distance, but the closest one that stood out was the building with a star on it. That logo could mean pretty much anything, but the fact that it had such an obvious logo compared to all the other buildings was probably worth noting.

Snapping a few pics of the buildings in the distance, to identify them if the City shifted around again, Stocking hovered over to call down to the gang below.

"Hey, I found something! This way!" Rising again, she glided to the star-building, landing on the roof and waiting for the others to make their way over. She debated just going in without them, but part of her was genuinely starting to enjoy having company that wasn't obnoxious.

Also, if this place turned out to have giant bugs inside, better for one of her companions to be the bait.

Lunafreya || Ladybug Fight, Lacking Ladybugs || The Dogs Were Unhelpful

Luna smiled at Lachesis, every bit the Oracle of Tenebrae for a moment before a wave of weary weakness hit her. So, that was the price of her earlier decision, she thought, summoning her trident back to her hands. She did not enjoy using it as a tool, but she did anyway, planting it in the dirt below, holding onto it so tightly her knuckles turned white, just for a moment until it felt like she could stand on her own.

To anyone else looking, the only sign that there was anything wrong was the way she clung to the trident, fingers pale, her posture and expression unchanged.

"Then we shall wait," she said, her tone soft. "Pryna and Umbra should be back soon with some knowledge of the whereabouts of this Arcade." As if summoned, the two dogs appeared in front of Luna. Umbra woofed once, a noise that was almost apologetic, before disappearing from sight once more, while Pryna stayed, close by Luna's feet. "My apologies, they appear to be having difficulties. I am happy to follow whoever knows the way."

She paused, looking down at herself, clothes still unpleasantly damp, hair tangled around her face, bloodstain on her torso and mud around the hem, and suppressed a wince once more. "Particularly if it enables me to get clean clothing."

Meanwhile, Umbra continued on his search around the City, thouroughly confused by how the buildings shifted as soon as he teleported away.

Zan, Strategizing, Arcade

"And after this... punishment, what happened to her?" Zan frowned, an expression which only deepened into the beginnings of a snarl as she learned the one behind this was too cowardly to even show themselves. She glared at the computer, irritation and anger clear as she stood silent and observed once more.

Mai's self-introduction broke her from her thoughts, half-formed plans of what to do next running through her head. It was tempting, to test this 'punishment' herself, but it would be nothing but foolish to do so and expose herself to an unknown force on the words of one person. She smiled at the attractive woman, appreciating the movement of the bow, and nodding slightly in return. "I am Zan. And thank you, Mai, for the information."

"Your umbrella?" The half-orc asked. "You have lost something?"

Tron Bonne - Arcade Tree base

Tron put her hands on her hips and nodded in satisfaction "Naturally~" she might have continued mentioning how the puzzle was "half solved" already, or how weird it was for there to be a binary puzzle in a setting like this, but out of the corner of her eye she thought she saw something white, fluffy, and staring at her as if it knew what she did.
Not that she'd done anything particularly heinous recently, but the look was there.

"O-okay, let's get going!" She said quickly getting into the Gustaff and trying not to look like she was getting away from the dog while it closed up and reactivated. It was gone by the time the Gustaff's optics came on line, that that didn't change the fact there was a dog down there somewhere, so she marched the mech straight for the stairs.

City Streets > Star Building

"Roger that, following," Hunk responded, breaking into a sprint to follow behind her.

The structure itself, despite being made of mud and sticks told Hunk everything. The star that was crudely assembled said it all... this was a police building. A precinct from the size of it, excellent.

Hunk slung the shotgun aside and drew his pistol, opening the door slowly.

Inside was a large front hall, with a desk where the secretary would be, along the walls would be various doors and pathways to other locations. He swung his head around in a sweep... he recognized this place all right.

"It seems I can't escape Racoon City," he mumbled.

This was the Police HQ from Racoon, recreated... well that had some benefits, familiar layout for one, plenty of space to house others.

"We have our home base. Stocking the building is clear so far of any giant insects, you're safe to come down."

Gabriel Agreste - The Anthill (That'd be a good name for a bar)

There was a lot of information to take in at once, not just from the turtle man's little speech that looked like he'd been practicing it in his head for a while, but also from what was still happening around them. Those two dogs had vanished, there was an 'owl staff' that they were waiting on - Spindly, it seemed - a mention of a lair the turtle was making, and while others might have missed the small sign, Gabriel did pick up on Lunafreya's stoic distress.

Gabriel was silent for a moment as he mulled everything over, staring up at the renewed fight the one ladybug got into. "Frankly I'm not appreciative of being kidnapped," he said, "especially not out of my own world. I'd very much like to meet this TESTER for myself."

With Lunafreya's worry over her clothes made, Gabriel looked down at his shoes, already stained by the mud and dirt. And they were white, too. "If the thing that brought us all together is powerful enough to do so, I hope it can also provide decent clothing replacement."

Chimneyfoot, The "Streets" (2023 Seems to Have Fled the Scene)

"Hey! Wait up!"

Chim was having some trouble catching up with Hunk. Speed wasn't exactly the problem; normally it would have been the problem, but the part that slowed him down was far lighter than usual. That was the problem. Chim was so used to walking with the heavy chimney that he moved that foot way too far every time, and he ended up tripping and falling over in the mud.

As such, when he finally got over there, Hunk was already pretty deep into his search. Chim approached the star building, looking down at his calculations wondering how it would fit into them. "Okay, I'm going to need a pretty good look at the building if we want t—uhh..." He trailed off as he looked up from his calculations at the building...and at the large wasp that had found its way in front of it.

It was around four feet tall (probably shorter than everyone else, but a good foot above Chim), and if you looked closely you could see some mushrooms sticking out of its head (although Chim was too busy silently panicking to look too closely at it). It wasn't really moving, and its attention seemed to be on the door into the station.

"...Uhhh, Hunk? We got a problem here..." Chim shouted, hoping it wouldn't attract the wasp's attention.

Daisy Buchanan, going up the stairs leading to the Arcade

Daisy watched Tron try her hand on the puzzle and get right first try, summoning the stairs. She watched on in awe.

So intelligent.

Not even Daisy could've figured it out herself, yet Tron got it like it was instinctual. It's notability stuck with Daisy as she walked up the stairs with the rest of her group.

"Tron! You're quite intelligent!" She blurted out. Daisy didn't know why she said that out of the blue but it slipped from her tongue. Now she has to find a way to naturally continue the discussion.

"It's... remarkable." What is Daisy saying now? Why is she saying that? Is it a coping mechanism that she's unconsciously aware of?

But since Daisy is now praising Tron's intelligence, she should be more open with her own wits, right? No. That's too risky. There's a reason the fool is the safest route to take. Better safe than sorry.

Daisy wondered if she should say more, but if she was spouting all of that earlier, she might just as well.

"But be careful with it... Sometimes, you just gotta pretend everything is fine and all even when that's not the truth. That's the best thing about fools, especially the beautiful ones. They don't pretend that everything is fine. They believe that everything is fine! They are oblivious to the hellscape they live in. And the beautiful ones, the beautiful little fools, get the best of it. They'll mindlessly win over anyone, including the rich and powerful. It doesn't matter how heartless he is or how many mistresses he takes, if he's rich, then she has won the game and can live to her fullest. As long she is an eternally happy fool, she is fine.

And now, Daisy is starting to tear up.

"But if she is not a fool, she is not fine. She's fully aware of how callous her husband is, fully aware of the women he has an affair with. She can spend as much as she wants and party as much as she wants and god forbid she starts up her own affair with a past love, but she'll never fill up that emptiness within her soul. Everything's terrible anyhow and SHE KNOWS."

Atop and above an anthill

Well, the ladybug was screwed anyway, but now it was extra tripled screwed, which is to say reduced to ashes. Spindly below had ascertained from this that the group above was probably fine, and began to descend again.

Lachesis nodded, looking up at this, and then turned back to the others. "Isn't there a chance that we'll get moved relative to it while you're doing that, though? I've had it happen a couple times while looking at it from the air; let's just say once you see it, don't take your eyes off it." She held her hand out at her side, examining the messy remains of the ladybug Bucky had ripped to shreds. "Hey, does this thing's leg look a little...burnt to you? Did any of us use fire magic on this thing? I think only Metal Arm Guy did anything to it, didn't he? ...Oh balls, I completely forgot to introduce myself! My name's Lachesis Sharp. Nice to meet you, Luna, Gabriel, uhh..."

The Arcade

Guest: What are they doing now?
Developer: [Other] Presently, they are alarmed by your disappearance and have begun a large search for you.

TESTER answered Shantae, "My boss opted to introduce some differing conditions with each day to encourage some variety in interactions. For today, those conditions are an insect theme and corresponding environment." To Zan, he added, "The woman was unharmed, though unable to physically antagonize others until she left this Arcade. I am obligated to prevent disruptive behavior toward others using the facilities here."

Interestingly, there was some sort of sign floating in front of the prize wall behind him—two in fact, labeled "BESTIARY" and "RETURN TO TIME OF ARRIVAL".

A couple of randos were gathered near the border of the PC and tabletop areas, mumbling something to each other while looking at some of the more notable guests. A few strategy guides were laid out on the table next to them, some of them open.

Star station

Akechi hadn't had any trouble keeping pace with the others; the only thing that seemed to slow him was the odd check to make sure Chim hadn't fallen too far behind, a task he didn't seem enthused by but kept taking upon himself anyway. As he reached the station, he tapped something on his phone—if one were to look, he had apparently been timing their trip with a stopwatch—before looking up at the uncomfortably-sized wasp that was now taking roost in front of their desired stop.

"Well."

Without waiting for any sort of order, he ducked out of sight of it in an ambush-ready stance. "If any of you are planning to stick around here for a substantial length of time," he whispered with a gleam in his eyes, "it'd be best if you were rid of it. We can catch it by surprise if we strike now; it hasn't noticed us just yet."

Akechi began lifting a hand, but then suddenly remembered something, and let out a beleaguered sigh. With a facepalm, he added less eagerly, "...Alternatively, we could simply wait to see if it leaves on its own, and it would take less resources and energy. Assuming it does leave, that is." Strange; without an apparent cause, the wind had left his sails in an instant.
