Good mouring: goldy and hornet also have another role: feeling the movie with their antagonist heavy presence leaving Death to background until it was needed.
"But it's the classic case that his Backstory is so insignificant compared to his actions, it doesn't really make a difference. "
I think it does in a way: he is a boy who promote his pies and then pinocho a magical creature steal away the public, given how he got frustrated becuase he is remenber as some dumb nursery rhyme or how he decide he is big jack horner show that the closest thing you can get as motive is: magic can make you special, he dosent want to be mock ergo he need magic to be the most special thing at all(which is probably why being rich dosent work for me).
In short the typical "ignored kid who wants to be bigger" the fact he treat the bite me candy his ace on the whole really hammer the point.
"since Hornet and Goldilocks are proof that both can coexist in the same story."
Dont forget death, the three antagonist run the whole stuff: Death is neutral and want to finally take last life of Puss and leave him when is clear he will stand and fight, Goldy is anti hero and hornet reject any atempt of being good.
but when I think people complain about villians is more a grandiose villian who drive the plot, even shrek one have farsquad driving the plot by his action, there is a lack of that nowdays
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Puss in Boots The Last Wish got an amazing comeback
and remains strong.
Like holy shit this is very amazing and very deserving.
So weird news and great news:
- The weird (bordering on interesting?) news is that while Puss in Boots: The Last Wish isn't nearly baking as much bread as the previous Shrek movies, it holds the distinction of still being one of the highest-grossing movies in the 2020s and also being the highest-critically rated Shrek film bar none. Like, critically-speaking, it even beat Shrek 2. (In Rotten Tomatoes terms, Shrek 2 has like 89% while The Last Wish has a whopping 95%!)
- The great news is that the 50th Annie Awards came and went and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish won Best Storyboarding and Best Editorial!
Speaking of storyboarding, said storyboarding was by one Anthony Holden of Precious Rascals fame. And much earlier, DreamWorks was cool enough to let him share a side-by-side
comparison
of his storyboards and the final version of Puss' last fight with the Wolf. Pretty cool!
Was this movie also nominated for Best Picture at the Annie awards?
It was nominated, yes. It did win two technical awards though, for storyboarding and editing.
Speaking of, Puss finally managed to earn its first Best Animated Feature award a few hours ago, which was by the Minnesota Film Critics Alliance
. Pretty great, considering it was underperforming in that front due to the fierce competition this year.

Also glad The Bad Guys got some awards too.
And man I am glad TLW is still selling tickets to this day. Even with home media available.
EDIT: Oh god, the book Goldie saw has a hidden detail

Whenever they said “wishing star”, I couldn’t help thinking of the wishing star song from that movie tbh.
(I loved that movie as a kid)

Dreamworks released a promo in tiktok featuring... Death doing the M3GAN dance
.
Well, I can live with this loss. The Pinocchio movie was good and Del Toro is fighting for animation.
You’re Gonna Carry That Weight. As much as I loved The Last Wish, I think a movie like Pinocchio that goes completely against the typical trends of American animated movies and del Toros open advocacy for more respect towards the medium of animation does send a pretty stron message.
So, I'm ultimately fine with this and Jack Horner continuing to lose against Pinocchio is hilarious.
Who would like to see a team-up between Sebastian J. Cricket and Ethical Bug?

That and Netflix finally getting an Oscar for animation will show they shouldnt kill their promising animation projects. I really hope this sets in and they make more awesome animated projects.

As long as this flower is in my heart. My Strength will flow without end.Ehh personality I feel like Puss in Boots should have won, I absolutely hated Pinocchio's ending and this movie got the value of mortality way, way better.
With that said, my cynical self is going "del Toro, Oscar and Hollywood lovechild, winning? Stop the presses!" When was the last time a Dreamworks movie won an Oscar anyway? Sharktale? Yikes.
This more is an exception honestly, considering what Netflix is doing and there's that really hilarious, hypocritical post they made in twitter.

And the Dreamworks movies that have been nominated are: the first two Shrek movies and both Puss in Boots movies, Spirit, Shark Tale, Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit, the first two Kung Fu Panda movies, all three How to Train Your Dragon movies, and the first Boss Baby.
The legend has returned.

Finally watched it. The movie is really good. I like the animations because it's a perfect blend of 2d and 3D. The plot and the Aesop is well done and the character development is well written.
