Too much legal stuff to deal with. Ethical stuff is also kind of difficult to figure out, but it's more the former that's the issue for this, imo.

I'd prefer to not allow them. If the legal issue is resolved later(and it's consider legal), it's also reasonable to relook at the situation.

Look I am one of the proponents of AI usage over in the AI threads (it's a tool, the problems occurring are problems with humans not the tool), and even I have to give the idea of using AI art on a tropes thread a big NO.

Not even because of the legality, with the US Coppyright office ruling that training data is fair use and AI output is not copyrightable...

But a simple adherence to mission statement here... If something is so rare that you cant get a picture of it happening out of the media it happens in... how can you really call it a trope?

So just... No, if something has to be made to demonstrate the item in question it probaly shouldnt even be there.

As some one else put it, we dont allow generated quotes why would we allow generated images.

[up] For the US it was earlier this week, but that's just there.

Something brought up already was that these images (and quotes) could be useful on a page about AI-Generated Content; while there's still the legality issue it'll be there for an informative purpose similar to a work page image, not just to illustrate a specific trope.

I'm in favor of a page on AI content even if we don't use an image for it because it's becoming such a big thing these days and, for better or worse, it is technically a form of creation and art even if the merits of it are controversial.

I would rather avoid a page on AI art as a concept unless it is made in advance as a technical aspect page in the veins of YanksWithTanks and locked.

The issue is too much of a hot one at the moment, any existance of said page is just going to turn into emotional edit wars within a week.

[up] Slightly off topic from this thread per see, but if anyone decides to write up a draft for a UN page on AI art, of absolutely be willing to look over it.

[up] In reference to this thread, I submitted a Useful Notes page on AI art to TLP here. Hope it's a good start, given the subject's controversy.

I think it's safe to say that the consensus is "No" for this (and it's my vote as well). I'll update the IP guidelines in the IP discussion thread; closing this.
