I wish I could find the original comic page where Ultron turned evil cause I'm sure there's some monologue in there about how he was "Built to protect humanity but now sees it as a plague" or some such.

I didn't say it couldn't be discussed more. My previous post was just a regular reply and not a mod statement.
What I meant is that- eh, just gonna result in squabbling. In a nutshell: I didn't mean that.
I'm gonna go take a look back at previous suggestions real quick to see if there's something about the AI being the problem, not the robot itself.
This one
seems to be decent, as it shows the robot is meant to be educational through its clothing, but has took a murderous turn, implying that the AI has went wrong. So yeah,
14.
It has to show the AI has went wrong, not just be a murderous robot. Also, just because it's a murderous robot too doesn't mean it doesn't illustrate. Yes, I know what I just typed out is confusing. I emphasized the first just for a reason.

Now that you mention it, I'd be fine with 14 since it shows that the robot has multiple modes programmed into it and the current mode is causing the robot to kill, while other modes presumably don't do that.
As a side note/tangent, it was previously said that Killer Robot is a subtrope of A.I. Is a Crapshoot, but the former says the latter is the subtrope of the two, and the latter doesn't mention the former. Edit: Misread what was said.
Edit: I still think 20.2 would work as well, but I think I prefer 14.

OK, I was the one who screwed up then. I misread what was said during the subtrope/supertrope conversation because there was a gap between your post and the one that mentioned Killer Robot.

I got a rock for Halloween.Seriously, though, why is this so hard to find an image for. It's not like it's an uncommon Trope.
Read Pokemon Ultimate EmeraldI'm trying to come up with examples of "evil computers", but getting an image turned out to be harder than it sounds.

Had other examples in mind but they were spoilers.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupI think 24.2 is the best. While it does not show the robot actually killing humans, it shows that it became destructive, so it illustrates the trope. Otherwise, 20.2 is fine, but I don't like the others, they don't show that the robot wasn't meant to be murderous in the first place. As for 34.2, it's just way too text-reliant.
Fjón þvæ ég af mér fjanda minna rán og reiði ríkra manna.I agree that 34.2 is too text-reliant.

I got a rock for Halloween.Oh, and I'd be fine with 24.2 after thinking about it a bit more, particularly due to what was said about it being destructive instead of murderous. I do still prefer 14 over 20.2, though at the same time, I prefer 20.2 over the suggestions other than the ones mentioned in this post.

I got a rock for Halloween.I am strongly against any of the suggestions because people seem to only be reading half of the description. The term "crapshoot" refers to the unpredictable nature of _____. Whether the machine turns evil is just as likely as the machine turning good (except less likely to be a satisfying story). The images reinforce the "AI turns evil" concept, and not the "AI morality is unpredictable" concept that the trope actually is about.
That's not to say that the current is any better, but I'd prefer a pull over any of the suggestions so far.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.I wouldn't mind settling on No Pic For Now as it'd be pretty difficult.

Reading the description, the AI turning good is said to be the inversion. Which means the trope is mainly about an AI turning evil through whatever means. I think it being Played Straight should be illustrated.
But yes, definitely pull.

The description, why it acknowledges that "crapshoot" means unpredictability, is pretty clear about the AI turning evil. It doesn't say that it necessarily be murderous, but in any way turning evil.

Fjón þvæ ég af mér fjanda minna rán og reiði ríkra manna.I'm fine with just pulling. I don't have a strong opinion on whether to put it on the "no pic ever" list, but I'm not against it. Or maybe BUPKIS would work.
Edit: I'm going to change my vote to pull regardless of replacement, and leaning toward BUPKIS.

I got a rock for Halloween. There may be a deeper problem here, that the trope is written as "AI may turn evil", but most usage I see amounts to "when you see an AI in this sort of story, you expect it to turn evil". Not helping is that most English-speakers are unfamiliar with the word "crapshoot", so instead of reading it as a gambling term, they assumed it means "this will turn out as crap". The "Evil Inside" picture is reinforcing this, but it goes deeper.
Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.I don't think this is either unpicturable or BUPKIS, there's a wealth of examples, we just need to find something like the teacher bot or M3GAN, or the System Shock AI types.
I like the idea of illustrating with the inversion. Here's a shot from a deleted scene
of The Iron Giant and one from the movie, effectively subverting killer robot. There were also a few nice ones with Gentle Giant style interacting with a deer or posing as Superman.

Eh
. The Iron Giant looks too gentle and kind to make us believe he was once a killer robot bent on planetary destruction.
To offer arguments for 14, the tutor bot's graduate hat signifies that it's supposed to have an actual artificial intelligence and that its function that is meant for education. The red perish screen is self explanatory as it's not supposed to be doing that.
I think 24.2 is the best. There's a visual progression there that goes along with the "AI was not intended to be evil but turned out that way regardless" aspect without too much overlap with Killer Robot.
Edited by Karxrida on Dec 23rd 2022 at 1:22:08 AM
I'm inclined to go with 24.2 as well. The Iron Giant combo looks more like Defector from Decadence stuff because it shows only one being redeemed.

Crown Description:

This is simply about the AI being murderous while not being intended to be, so I think the suggestion should be discussed a bit more since it's not just murderous robo.
