I feel like this will be, if nothing else, Cillian Murphy's career-defining role. He already looks like he'll be knocking it out of the park.

They are going with the "they thought it could blow up the world" thing? I seem to recall in reality they very much did make sure that the chance of that was zero before doing it.

Haven't watched the trailers yet but I wonder if they'll put the "I have become Death" line.

Gonna be a heavy-duty movie about how the world is losing because it doesn't have nuclear power and then the crushing reality of now everyone has nuclear power and one false move means the whole world is over. It sounds like it's gonna leave very little room for comfort. Devastating reality check that I won't be surprised ends up being a masterpiece of film.

Oh it's definitely in it. Cillian Murphy says he read the Bhagavad Gita to prepare for Oppenheimer. He said it was an ‘Absolutely beautiful text’.

Oppenheimer has a 100 million dollar budget well Barbie has 145 million so this us looking like a fantastic success.

Also AMC Says ‘Barbie,’ ‘Oppenheimer’ Double-Feature Ticket Sales Have Doubled in Past Week. Indicating the barbhimmer meme of watching them both is actually paying off dividends.

The only question is which to watch first.

Every time I've seen the idea come up, the recommendation is to watch Oppenheimer first, then Barbie as a palate cleanser. Otherwise it's just depressing.

Personally I am watching Oppenheimer first.

I am looking forward to taking my fiancée to a Barbieheimer double feature this weekend.

[up][up] That's been the consensus I've seen as well. Oppenheimer, lunch, Barbie.

Though what sealed the deal for me was someone saying people should watch Oppenheimer first, then Barbie because, "Barbie lives in the world that Oppenheimer created."

This was something of an odd film for Nolan of all people, but the jumping timelines and twists within twists were definitely in his wheelhouse. Also showed his love of incredibly quiet moments followed by preposterously loud effects.

The nudity felt a little gratuitous, but I like how it was used in later scenes along with the other incursions of Robert's thoughts on his reality. There was clearly a lot of work done in this movie to get things right (down to Feynman's bongos) and the finished product is an excellent film.

It's also probably the biggest case of Big Names, Small Roles since...well, Barbie.

I watched this after Barbie yesterday. Not the kind of concept I expected Nolan to make but it's now one of this best I feel. The use of sound, for both scene direction and dramatic tension, is powerful. The sound itself is as much a character as the others, making its presence to the audience whenever it wants to remind us of the nature of Oppenheimer and his team's work, as well as the consequences thereof. The sound is as well acted as the entire All-Star Cast, and that is not absurdist praise. This fucking cast killed it in every scene they were in. No one in a prominent role felt lacking, no one in a side role felt wasted. The use of color caught me off guard, but when I learned what it meant after seeing the film, it too added a new dimension to the character interactions that enriched an already quality product. And made the ending even more haunting.

I honestly think this is will be remembered as one of Nolan's best for years to come.

The person I saw this with pointed out that Murphy's American accent at times makes him sound like Robin Williams, when he's slow and serious, and I can't unhear it.

The actor who played Einstein, just as one example out of many, managed to do a lot with a little.

Shout out to Gary Oldman as Harry Truman for being a rare example of a well-meaning guy that also happens to be the biggest prick in the room.

Oppenheimer is showing in 70mm IMAX film in 25 theaters in North America. The original IMAX film platter manager ran on PalmPilots and couldn't handle Oppenheimer's length. They had to create a custom emulator to do it.

Fortunately I'm near one of the theaters and will get to see it next week.

Yeah I believe this needed custom emulators. It felt like I was honestly being hit by the powerful winds created by the explosions in this movie.

Friend of mine had an extra ticket to see it at IMAX last night. Turns out I was lucky as I was in one of those theaters in California to see it on 70mm.

Excellent movie but... that sure was an amazing movie I probably never want to watch again. It's a good movie. For a topic and era of history that I've otherwise never been interested in, I was sucked in. The dialogue is fantastic. Acting is amazing.

It took me a really hot minute to realize that was RDJ.

It's an easy Oscar contender, though is anyone shocked by that assessment?

I was also kinda surprised at how... reserved the horror of it was. It wasn't gory or over the top. Part of me wonders if they could have or should have gone further, but I'm indecisive on it.

Probably because I also had an audience that I feel like... missed the point. Truman saying "Don't bring that crybaby into my office again" was met with laugher in my theater where, for me, that beat gut-punched me. I started to wonder if, by being less reserved and less gratuitous, the audience was too thick to get the point? Or maybe I'm over thinking it and just had a bad group.

To comment about the nudity, I thought they had smart choices with it. I think it was gratuitous as a set-up and payoff for that to be the entire point. However, It does always bother me when women are naked on screen and focus is given to sexualizing their bodies, but then we block the men to sit in uncomfortable or awkward ways that no man would likely and so strictly sit in to avoid showing anything sex related about their bodies. The weirdly prudish attitude about naked men just bothers me after awhile.

Considering this movie is about the Atom Bomb, I want to see Christopher Nolan direct a Stealth sequel thats turns into a Godzilla Movie.

Though to be fair, there's a Godzilla movie coming out that takes place immediately after the first 2 Atom Bombs are dropped, so maybe they can make a Double feature with this movie followed up by that Godzilla Movie. [lol]
