Yeah, this is most likely for adult collectors who just wanted one that looks like Kate McKinnon. Any kid can make their own Weird Barbie by just playing with one too hard.
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonWell, I just got back from seeing the film one more time in theatres with the last of my friends who hadn’t seen it. She described it as like being on drugs.
You’re Gonna Carry That Weight.Well it's official.
Now it's the one on one fight for Mario. (Huh. I knew it could make that easily)
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Tbh, I don't want them to go back to the way they were. I think that 20 Billion Dollar Giants every year was bad for the overall market product. Everyone wanted to be the billion dollar movie so everything had to have mass market appeal and skyscraper budgets resulting in more and more blockbusters were being made.
You couldn't have riskier movies out there or you risked a MASSIVE loss.
With smaller budget movies, we could have riskier ventures. We could have a movie like Barbie that criticizes society's sexism and comes to a better more critical resolution of the problem rather than kinda just saying "it's a problem" and little else.
Now that you mention it, I do love the fact that smaller movies are getting more attention nowadays than they did before and as you stated, more risks are being taken with films than they were before. If all movies have to be billion dollar hits, then we won't have any unique films that go against the main trends of the movie industry.
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!
Formerly Hail Muffins (He/Him)
I dunno, I weirdly would love to see Barbie adjusting to the Real World and then having to deal with something ridiculous like Skipper as the villain.
(And she's a Gwyneth Paltrow con woman selling beauty products)
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.I think the biggest problem is you'd have to "Yes, and..." the whole sexism/patriarchy plot. You'd have to construct a new thing to say there.
You really couldn't have just "Barbie sees a gynecologist and wants to become a teacher and look at her wacky fish out of water antics". You need the throughline from the first film.
And that's a lot harder to do. Especially considering how much we've already debated where the ending left things.
I think Mattel will definitely try to do a sequel, but I don't think everything needs a sequel and sometimes it's ok to just... not.
Spinoff movie where Allan goes to the real world to find out why there's only one of him and discovers that his most marketable trait is the fact that he can wear Ken's clothes.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.they need a sequel where the barbies war on rival doll brands
have a listen and have a link to my discord serverLike Bratz, maybe even a look at how oddly sexualized Bratz Dolls were even compared to barbies.
Watch SymphogearInteresting to note that I was watching Nickelodeon the other day and I noticed that the commercials for Barbie dolls had boys in them. The boys were not the focal point, and if you were mostly paying attention to what was going on in the foreground you might not have noticed them, but they were there, and they were playing with the dolls as well. I haven't seen an ad for Barbie dolls in a long time (don't usually watch kids' broadcast tv) and I wonder how long this has been going on.
Note also that when I say "interesting," that's exactly what I mean. I see nothing wrong with this development, and note it because it's a bit of progression I hadn't seen before.
Barbie's third weekend take brought in $53m domestic from second weekend's $93m. That's a drop of 43.01%; Pretty stable next to her second weekend drop of 42.59%.
With regard to the "Can she beat Mario?" question: as predicted, her drop has brought her direct comparison weekend total under Mario's. Mario's third weekend 35.01% put him at $59.9m domestic. So even though Barbie got off to a stronger start and is still in the lead by about $23m, the gap between Barbie and Mario is now shrinking rather than growing.
However, while the domestic gap between them is shrinking, Barbie's international percentage is catching up to Mario's. Her international figures are up to 111.2% of her domestic, compared to Mario's 115.2%. So she's dropping slower internationally than she is in the U.S., which will help preserve her opening lead against Mario's stronger drop rate.
Like I said before, this is going to be neck and neck. I think Barbie's got a fair shot at beating Mario. But she is looking at probably losing about $7-8 million of that lead for each weekend that passes going forward, so this is still going to be very close.

Kenland as a Patriarchy doesn't work.

Should've made a Barbie that includes markers to let kids make their own Weird Barbies. (I would've recommended including scissors too for the hair, but then again it might not be wise to let little kids have those.)
