To step out of the thematic discussion a bit: I don't quite get the hype for Allen.
He's just - Michael Cera playing a Michael Cera character, honestly. Yeah, him beating up the Kens building the "wall" between Barbieland and the Real World was funny and all, but it's still just Michael Cera.
I don't know, I didn't get the appeal.
El sexo es temporal. LA PENITENCIA ES ETERNA!He's basically there to show #Not All Ken.
Except he's not a Ken.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.I watched the video OrangeBun and I really liked it. She brought up great points.
As for I think that is just fun to have people not named Barbie and Ken in Barbieland on top of him just being likable.

Does anyone have thoughts on Ken being the main villain? For me, I was surprised but I understand why it happened.
"Now it's starting to feel like a game!"I was surprised but not in the bad way. It helps that he was still sympathetic throughout which I appreciated.

I mean I wasn't what with La La Land and him being part of the Mickey Mouse club. Though I do hope he takes roles for him to show it off as I really liked Just Ken.
What did you guys think of Robbie as Barbie? I loved her the role personally.

Saw the movie and enjoyed it, especially the comedic performances, scenery, songs and some clever satirical bits. However, I did not like everything: I understand that the target audience is a general one and they couldn't have done a "grim and gritty" film, but I felt that the "real world" parts were really low-stakes and wackier than they could have been. The police and FBI don't really do anything, the Mattel board are a bunch of bumbling buffoons and for all the talk of Barbie entering the real world being the cause of catastrophic events, the worst that happens is that... Ken toys sell really well?
I don't get if this is part of the satire and meant to say that a toy (and a movie) can't really change anything in our reality, or if they didn't want to ruin the cheerful tone of the film by making the "real" part too depressing, or whatever. To me, The Lego Movie is still the benchmark of a toy-based movie that deconstructs the product while celebrating it and the impact it had on generations of kids. And Will Ferrell was much less annoying and over-the-top in that film. (Also, I don't even like Zack Snyder, but I felt that the dig at Justice League by one of the Barbies was just pointless and forced)
"Effective Altruism" is just another bunch of horsesh*t.Tbf this is pretty tame. Dc themselves have made meaner jokes about the snyder cut. Dc sI a big fan of Self Depreciation comedy. Like Harley Quinn here
. And no one really minded.
Ngl adding the guy with the last Jedi is not Canon t shirt makes this priceless.
Hell the reddit dceu group. Through the Barbie joke was pretty funny.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."It’s not even really a dig at Snyder or the film (or Coppola and the Godfather), just the stereotypical fandom that it spawned. “I think ZSJL is great” and “wow a lot of toxic men like this movie huh” are not contradictory. Could have swapped it out for like, Fight Club and the sentiment would’ve been the same (just not as topical).
Which is what the film intended we are meant to find that the Kens are more sympathetic. They are meant to be a stand in for women in the real world. Though I do think it ending with them getting houses would have been good.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI thought the film was...Half and half. Production it was great and the humor on point, but I feel it seemed a little unsure what message to take. I wasn't sure how much the story wanted to either comment about gender roles or how much was the film a satire of the franchise, it felt a little uneven and unsure on what to invest further. The emotional moments also fell a little flat to seem convincing.
I was wondering what you guys think of the speech from Gloria. While I like it and think it is well delivered, I do get criticisms that it is too on the nose.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadOn the nose, but also very much a successor to "I'm so sick of people saying that love is just all a woman is fit for."
The issue is that Barbie still doesn’t really understand the real world very well. At that point, she’s still seeing things as “we thought we fixed everything and we were wrong”. Barbie talking about how complicated the real world is for women with dozens of contradictory elements would ring incredibly hollow because she was in the real world for like three hours maybe, she legit has no clear way to have learned all that stuff. Gloria has actually lived her whole life that way.
Plus the whole reason Barbie is in a funk in the first place is because of her...let's call it magic link to Gloria. Gloria is Barbie's connection to reality, and Barbie is Gloria's connection to a microcosm of womanhood.
So Gloria's speech rings true to Barbie not just because of what she's saying, but because of their emotional and mental connection.
No, she was inspired by Bild Lilli, a West German fashion doll, which was in turn based on a comic strip character who was flirty gold-digger type. A little risqué compared to what we think of the 50s, but really not that shocking.

Thing is that right now women have LOST rights that make being on the Supreme Court meaningless IE having no control over their own body.
It still fits when you take into consideration that right now women have lost rights including thanks to one of said women on the Supreme Court appointed by Trump, from a cult where women are viewed as subservient to men, and all the rulings she’s helped with enforce that.
Just like Clarence Thomas is not an ally of his fellow African Americans and love his white rich sugar daddies and all their Nazi memorabilia.
