Old Magnificent Bastard thread
Welcome to the Magnificent Bastard (MB) cleanup thread! This thread is where we clean up or cut already-existing entries.
If you're looking to add new entries, please see the approval thread
.
IMPORTANT: Before you begin any discussions on this thread, please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List
Here, you'll find explanations of the criteria for the trope as well as our rules/procedures for approving and cutting candidates.
What goes through this thread?
- Cut requests. If you believe a MB has been approved and they do not count, this thread is where you propose their removal. To know how to go about this, please see the FAQ folder on the Administrivia page, where the process is explained in detail.
- If we ever need to consider cutting multiple examples without individually reviewing them (e.g. if we discover widespread plagiarism with a particular troper's MBs), the initial discussion will be on this thread and we'll then escalate to the mod team (as described here
) to get a formal consensus if we decide to recommend a mass cut.
- If an entry was put on the wrong subpage/YMMV page, you may propose where they should be moved to.
- Full rewrites of existing entries, including expansions, trims, and ground-up rewrites. If your rewrite is approved by the thread, feel free to add it to the drafts page so that other users can check grammar and the like before it is included with the rest of the weekly swaps.
- If an entry on a work's YMMV page doesn't match the entry on the media subpage, you can bring it here to discuss which entry works better.
What does not go through this thread?
- New candidate proposals - as stated before, those are done on this thread
.
- Unapproved wicks - if a Troper encounters either of these kinds of wicks, they can be cut with no approval.
- Any MB link on a non-YMMV page - as a YMMV trope, it should not be linked on those pages regardless of any cleanup effort. The only exception is if the wick is being used within the definition of another trope.
- If an MB link on a YMMV page refers to an unapproved character. If it refers to an approved character on any such page, the wick can stay. On the other hand, if the unapproved character being linked to sounds like they might have promise (and you don't feel like checking it out for yourself), feel free to mention it on the approval thread - someone may already know why they don't count, or it could invite a brand new discussion!
- Proposals for images, quotes, and videos of already-approved MBs - quotes and images are proposed on the approval thread
, while videos can be uploaded normally as they are screened for approval by the moderation.
- Crosswicking examples to YMMV pages - if an example has already been approved and added to the main page, you do not require any special permission to add the example to a work's YMMV page (assuming the work has a page already). If a YMMV page doesn't exist yet, then you can make it yourself, but either way, feel free to just add the example without asking.
- Small changes to existing entries - these can simply be done on a Troper's own prerogative with no approval.
- Spelling and grammar fixes.
- Pothole changes.
- Minor rewordings.
- Spoiler tags.
While these changes do not require any kind of approval, it is requested that should you make any of these changes, you do one of the following:
- Make the same changes on the relevant Sandbox page, then add the Sandbox to the list at the bottom of the drafts page. This will add the Sandbox to the weekly swaps and ensure that the edits end up on the relevant locked page. If the Sandbox is already listed, then once you make the edits, your job is already done!
- If you don't know how the Sandboxes work or simply don't have the time to find it, then you can simply post on the thread about the changes you made. Someone else can then make the edit on the relevant Sandbox and add it to the weekly swaps.
- Alternatively, you can simply request that the change be made directly to the locked page on the Locked Pages thread
. Members of this thread keep track of that one, so we will ensure that the changes are made in the Sandbox so that it doesn't get deleted during the next swap.
Again, these changes don't require any approval, but we prefer to keep the entries on the YMMV pages and the locked pages the same in order to avoid any miscommunication or errors between entries, so if you do make the change, we would greatly appreciate it if you could ensure the change is made on the locked page as well.
As a final note, we do not care what other sites have to say regarding whether or not a character counts. We have our own criteria and they have theirs for their MB equivalents; while they are similar, they are not exactly the same and should not be treated as such. Another site removing a character from their equivalent should not be a reason why a cut is proposed here, and if this is the case, it will likely lead to mod intervention.
Other than this, once again, welcome to the cleanup thread, and we look forward to your contributions!

Oh hey the first book of the sequel series to The Folk of the Air came out roughly two weeks ago.
Anyway it's set around 8 or so years later since the end. Madoc
went into exile at the end gracefully. And tbh he was fine at first but got bored....
He is Unseelie. Being murderous monsters is kind of their hat. Like without being able to manipulate, to war or craft battle or bloodshed. He just couldn't stand it.
Anyway one of Jude's old enemies Lady Nore is planning to find a doomsday weapon that could destroy Elfhame called the heart which can be used to. Some of her minions happen to be the falcons (his old gang). So Madoc let's himself be captured by Noire intending to use. He'll turn then against her and kill her. And use that to get himself a boon so Jude will take away his exile and send him back tk his second in command job. In fact it would have worked if not for the fact the Noire allied with the Goblin King. One of the few Unseelie more respected than Madoc is. So he ends up captured and sickly with Oak needing to save him.
That said. He's not that bad ultimately. He still convinces Noire's daughter to turn on her and make choices for herself leading to Noire's death.
So what say we still a keeper?
I have at least four other examples from this series planned.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Nagito's writeup from Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair is not there, is he meant to be just put in the YMMV.Danganronpa main page? Cause Gundham Tanka's write up is also there.
Due to unfortunate events, i will continue to exist until further notice. (also i'm fluid now)So, about the MB page for Scooby-Doo!, could this work as a header?
- Since 1969, Mystery Incorporated has been uncovering and solving mysteries, some real, some fake. But underneath some masks lie within clever planning and devious charm.

Eh, good enough.Hey, sorry if I get something wrong, first post here, but this is bugging me for some time.
I propose a cut or discussion on both entries from Ozark.
As it's written:
- Nelson is an enforcer working for the Navarro Cartel. Setting aside personal pleasures to succeed at his job, Nelson is routinely tasked with murdering anyone who interferes with his employers' business, all while he simultaneously puts on a facade of behaving like a loyal bodyguard. After successfully covering up the murders of nearly a dozen people, Nelson even goes as far as killing Helen Pierce, his supposed close ally, the moment he was ordered to once Omar Navarro saw her as a liability. Even after her death, Nelson refuses to let his emotions hinder his job and continues carrying out Navarro's orders without hesitation or mistakes.
My issue here is both that Nelson is too much of a Bit Character and he has virtually no agency on his own. He's got some scenes where he shows Hidden Depths and some surprising insight on what's going on, but they are few and scattered, and don't have lasting effect on the plot. He doesn't plan anything, doesn't have any personal stakes or input in the many schemes on the show, is more of a blunt instrument used by his superiors and was killed very offhandedly by a panicked woman he was supposed to kill. Not much MB material, for me.
- Camila Elizondro is the sister of Omar Navarro and a high-ranking member in the Navarro Cartel. Shortly after her son, Javier, was murdered, Camila set out to find and kill whoever was responsible. Believing Omar was to blame, she tried to have him assassinated in prison, later framing one of his lieutenants in the process. When Marty and Wendy Byrde propose a plan to have her run the cartel instead of Omar, she agrees, staging a breakout for Omar only to have him killed afterwards. Once she discovers Ruth Langmore murdered her son and not Omar, she immediately follows Ruth to a secluded location and personally guns her down, thus exacting her revenge all while becoming the new cartel leader.
Now, Camila is a schemer, no doubt about it, but what I question is how successful she is by herself. What she has under her belt is, basically, a failed assassination attempt on her brother. Whatever power she got from then on was basically given to her in a silver platter by the Byrdes, with little encouragement from herself, with what she was able to carry on the second assassination attempt (now successful, because the FBI enabled her) and find out her son's killer by threatening a witness. Manipulative Bitch, yes. Magnificent Bitch, I don't think so. But she has a better case than Nelson still.
- Tenchi Universe: Nagi is an infamous Bounty Hunter feared by the whole galaxy for her stone cold tactics, and Ryoko's rival, who will stop at nothing to defeat her. Tracking Ryoko, Nagi kidnaps Tenchi to lure her to a trap before battling her in brutal hand to hand combat, using her wit and technology to nearly kill her had it not been for luck. Spared by Ryoko after the fight, Nagi continuously battles her, using the chances to one up her, always nearly capturing her. When given an opportunity to catch her after being injured by the Jirai Military, Nagi decides not due to her weakened state and works with her to outwit the Jirai Military by using her skills and Ken-Ohki to pull a distraction gambit and flawlessly executing it, hoping to keep Ryoko alive in a suicide mission so she's the only one who will beat her showing her virtues yet ruthless will as a fighter.
Just a small rewrite.

Allow me, take my hand and never let go, promise? - Giselle
I know, but there's also the fact that he originated from that game. He did appear in other games, but i think there should be at least something on his game of origin. If an entire write up is too much, we could use a redirect to his write-up on the franchise page, much like Junko's CM entry does.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadHey I have Netflix. I decided to watch it. It's from episode six
She walks into the room with a Victorian dress and does a curteosy and kisses him while he seems bored.
Here with weird
. They talk and he accuses her of being just a maid to the organisation and she grabs his neck.
Anyway after that she offers him a We Can Rule Together, he says no and she than let's him go.... Nothing else happens.
The guy doesn't even react the entire time.
It's umh a weird scene but I mean we do have uh worse than this. Especially since this seems to be it.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."I also saw Ozark and Im fine keeping both Nelson and Camilia, especially the latter since she achieves everything that she wants
My sandbox of EPs and other stuff

Good!
Btw I'll try and work on it tomorrow but if someone would like to add in a list of links to writeups for swapping on pending like CM I think that would make having them as reference for adding to pages easier.
