Old Complete Monster cleanup thread
Welcome to the new Complete Monster (CM) cleanup thread! This thread is where we clean up or cut already-existing entries.
If you're looking to add new entries, please see the approval thread
.
IMPORTANT: Before you begin any discussions on this thread, please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List. Here, you'll find explanations of the criteria for the trope as well as our rules/procedures for approving and cutting candidates.
What goes through this thread?
- Cut requests. If you believe a CM has been approved and they do not count, this thread is where you propose their removal. To know how to go about this, please see the FAQ folder on the Administrivia page, where the process is explained in detail.
- If we ever need to consider cutting multiple examples without individually reviewing them (e.g. if we discover widespread plagiarism with a particular troper's CMs), the initial discussion will be on this thread and we'll then escalate to the mod team (as described here
) to get a formal consensus if we decide to recommend a mass cut.
- If an entry was put on the wrong subpage/YMMV page, you may propose where they should be moved to.
- Full rewrites of existing entries, including expansions, trims, and ground-up rewrites. If your rewrite is approved by the thread, feel free to add it to the drafts page so that other users can check grammar and the like before it is included with the rest of the weekly swaps.
- If an entry on a work's YMMV page doesn't match the entry on the media subpage, you can bring it here to discuss which entry works better.
What does not go through this thread?
- New candidate proposals - as stated before, those are done on this thread
.
- Unapproved wicks - if a Troper encounters either of these kinds of wicks, they can be cut with no approval.
- Any CM link on a non-YMMV page - as a YMMV trope, it should not be linked on those pages regardless of any cleanup effort. The only exception is if the wick is being used within the definition of another trope.
- If an CM link on a YMMV page refers to an unapproved character. If it refers to an approved character on any such page, the wick can stay. On the other hand, if the unapproved character being linked to sounds like they might have promise (and you don't feel like checking it out for yourself), feel free to mention it on the approval thread - someone may already know why they don't count, or it could invite a brand new discussion!
- Proposals for images, quotes, and videos of already-approved CMs - quotes and images are proposed on the approval thread
, while videos can be uploaded normally as they are screened for approval by the moderation.
- Crosswicking examples to YMMV pages - if an example has already been approved and added to the main page, you do not require any special permission to add the example to a work's YMMV page (assuming the work has a page already). If a YMMV page doesn't exist yet, then you can make it yourself, but either way, feel free to just add the example without asking.
- Small changes to existing entries - these can simply be done on a Troper's own prerogative with no approval.
- Spelling and grammar fixes.
- Pothole changes.
- Minor rewordings.
- Spoiler tags.
While these changes do not require any kind of approval, it is requested that should you make any of these changes, you do one of the following:
- Make the same changes on the relevant Sandbox page, then add the Sandbox to the list at the bottom of the drafts page. This will add the Sandbox to the weekly swaps and ensure that the edits end up on the relevant locked page. If the Sandbox is already listed, then once you make the edits, your job is already done!
- If you don't know how the Sandboxes work or simply don't have the time to find it, then you can simply post on the thread about the changes you made. Someone else can then make the edit on the relevant Sandbox and add it to the weekly swaps.
- Alternatively, you can simply request that the change be made directly to the locked page on the Locked Pages thread
. Members of this thread keep track of that one, so we will ensure that the changes are made in the Sandbox so that it doesn't get deleted during the next swap.
Again, these changes don't require any approval, but we prefer to keep the entries on the YMMV pages and the locked pages the same in order to avoid any miscommunication or errors between entries, so if you do make the change, we would greatly appreciate it if you could ensure the change is made on the locked page as well.
As a final note, we do not care what other sites have to say regarding whether or not a character counts. We have our own criteria and they have theirs for their CM equivalents; while they are similar, they are not exactly the same and should not be treated as such. Another site removing a character from their equivalent should not be a reason why a cut is proposed here, and if this is the case, it will likely lead to mod intervention.
Other than this, once again, welcome to the cleanup thread, and we look forward to your contributions!

What all would go on these Marvel and DC Live-Qction pages? I'm for the idea as a concept but I'd like confirmation from someone if this is kosher to do.
Btw if no one minds I'm gonna plan on covering All Quiet on the Western Front (2022) when the approval thread reopens.
No! That is NOT Solid Snake! Stop impersonating him!Newton and Papyru, please add the rewrites to the Drafts.
Also, I've not played it (yet), but Zombie Army Trilogy got a 4th game. Anyone play it and know if Hitler does anything more?

They are already made in sandbox form (by a different troper). So if you are curious on what would go on them: Monster DC Live Action and Monster Marvel Live Action. This is in my mind no different than DC Animation which to my knowledge is done nowhere else on the site beyond this, Magnificent Bastard, and UsefulNotes.Franchise Actors. Which also groups the live action films and TV shows in pages (as in live action films and TV shows each separately not a joint live action page). I'm not saying we should do it however, just that it is not unheard of to do say a DC/Marvel Films page.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadBtw wanna do a rewrite for one of an old comic baddie I did:
- Dead Irons, by James Kuhoric et al.: In this 2009 comic miniseries, Devin Irons is a horrifying Sinister Minister obsessed with immortality. A vicious husband and father who regularly beat his wife and 4 children for any form of slight, Irons reached the peak of his abuse when he branded his son Silas with a cross, then tied him to a statue, bloody and bruised, for an undetermined amount of time. When Jonas, the only man in town aware of Irons's cruelty, confronts the man, Irons gleefully stabs him to death, before enacting his plan to gain eternal life: Making a pact with Hell, Irons crucifies his wife and plans to sacrifice her and his children to eternal pain and torment in exchange for immortality, but, when Silas disrupts the ritual, Irons settles for gutting his wife and leaving his other 3 children to wander the land as monstrous zombies. Continuing his plans years later, Irons regularly tortures and murders innocents, then brainwashes 99 of them -— including children — into slitting their own throats, at which point he revives his dead wife as a demonic cannibal solely to mock his children. When his kids finally return for their vengeance, Irons orders their mother to kill them, gains his immortality, then reveals his plans to unleash his dark powers across the land and cleanse the world of those he deems "unrighteous". Psychopathic, hypocritical, and fanatical, Devin Irons was a true beast of a man so convinced of his own righteousness that he condemned dozen of innocents, including his own children, to an eternity of torment and hellfire simply because he considers that to be their only purpose in life.
Irons is a horrid bastard, but he could do with serious trimming and touching up:
- Dead Irons, by James Kuhoric et al.: Devin Irons is a horrifying Sinister Minister obsessed with immortality. A vicious husband and father who regularly beat his wife and 4 children, Irons went so far as to brand his son Silas with a cross and tie him to a statue, bloody and bruised, for an undetermined amount of time. When the only man in town aware of Irons's cruelty confronts him, Irons gleefully stabs the man to death, before enacting a plan to gain eternal life. Making a pact with Hell, Irons crucifies his wife and plans to sacrifice her and his children to eternal pain and torment in exchange for eternal life, but when Silas disrupts the ritual, Irons settles for gutting his wife and leaving his children to wander the land as monstrous zombies. Continuing his plans years later, Irons tortures and murders men, women and children, then brainwashes 99 of them into slitting their own throats. When his kids finally return for their vengeance, Irons revives their mother as a demonic cannibal and orders her to kill her own children, then reveals his plans to unleash his dark powers across the land and cleanse the world of those he deems "unrighteous."
If we like it, I'll shoot to the drafts.
No! That is NOT Solid Snake! Stop impersonating him!Yeah uh about that.
The last time someone did this for two separate mediums for dc and marvel it got a backlash that people wanted it reverted
..
Yes to Ravok's rewrite.

In that case I separated them:
Thoughts?
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI will reserve the alternate history work The Death Of Russia for effortposting when the CM effortposting thread reopens.
I am assuming the two-week rule still stands?(through by the time that the thread reopens there is a good chance it will be immediately EP'd depending on when things reopen)

The pages look good. Bummed that this means the X-Men Film Series may never get its own page now even with the seven it currently has—six in the films, one in the script of what was clearly planned to be a film at one point—and it may still someday given Deadpool 3 I hear will be both that universe and the MCU—but that's the way the cookie crumbles if it just wasn't meant to be. All I can say is: "Well come what may."
I only saw the latest version of the Vecna writeup recently and I like it for the most part. I agree on him being referred to more as Vecna instead, but really doesn't matter. Also, 3 where the Mind Flayer reshapes a body for itself with the 30 people is in the summer of 1985.
4 is the spring of 1986.

One i feel i should ask about:
- Red Ocean: Corbin is the head of the underwater terrorist faction United Arms. A scientist who regularly abuses his underlings for failure, Corbin hopes to finish the deadly Cold Sun in order to unleash its destructive power onto the world.
Not sure it was aproved.
Actually whoever wrote joker entry for Darkness Falls has beaten both of you
Alright here's another guy I'd appreciate some minor feedback on, The Horned King. Here's his writeup:
- The Horned King is an evil, sorcerous lich who wants to use the Black Cauldron to conquer the world with his army of the undead, the Cauldron-Born. Stopping at nothing to achieve his goal, he's willing to kill innocents, has his loyal henchmen killed to create more skeleton warriors, and tries to sacrifice his own servant, Creeper, to power the Cauldron. Desiring to be seen as a god-like figure by what's left of the Earth, the Horned King remains one of the darkest villains in a Disney movie to date.
Is he irredeemable? Easily. Played seriously? Oh yes. Genuinely John Hurt's performance is one of the film's saving graces (and his death which is both hilariously the most graphic death in Disney and one of the most anti climactic.)
My issue is that I'm not too sure he's heinous enough for a villain of his tier? Now obviously as always correct me if I'm wrong about this but about the lines in the writeup:
- "he's willing to kill innocents" - pretty sure the innocents in his way are only the heroes?
- "has his loyal henchmen killed to create more skeleton warriors" - the Cauldron born only kill like 2 of his human soldiers while the rest run away before while the undead barely make it out the castle. Clip for said scene 2:31
- "tries to sacrifice his own servant, Creeper, to power the Cauldron." - He only attempts this after the Cauldron born are stopped and its only shown as him carrying Creeper to the Cauldron before Creeper points out the heroes to him in which he goes for the heroes.
Idk considering how Disney aren't afraid to be really bad with their villains I find his actual rapsheet underwhelming considering how this film has a character commit suicide as a sacrifice and The Horned King himself suffer arguably the most graphic death in Disney? The only counterargument I can genuinely think of that I can wholeheartedly agree with why people would be fine with keeping is that he commands the Cauldron born to "Destroy all in your path" but they barely make it out the door since they just trudge it so it's not presented as they're approaching a settlement with the threat of death looming.
Maybe I'm just rambling, probably am but I just think he's lacking that extra oomph from Vile Villain, Saccharine Show to Complete Monster.
What's wrong D-16? Rise up!I have never seen The Black Cauldron, so I will wait for more feedback on the Horned King.
For DC/Marvel Films pages descriptions:
"Given the source material, it is little surprise that film adaptations of DC Comics have some especially evil villains."
"Similar to the comics that inspired them, live action adaptations of Marvel Comics have a lot of vile villains."
I have no ideas for DC series' descriptions though.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup thread

I mean the Marvel one I am more in favor because similar to the animation, Literature, and video games there is a lot of shared universes or multiple per film/continuity. Meanwhile DC at the very least there os more one offs beyond the DCEU which has seven on its own.
