Old Complete Monster cleanup thread
Welcome to the new Complete Monster (CM) cleanup thread! This thread is where we clean up or cut already-existing entries.
If you're looking to add new entries, please see the approval thread
.
IMPORTANT: Before you begin any discussions on this thread, please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List. Here, you'll find explanations of the criteria for the trope as well as our rules/procedures for approving and cutting candidates.
What goes through this thread?
- Cut requests. If you believe a CM has been approved and they do not count, this thread is where you propose their removal. To know how to go about this, please see the FAQ folder on the Administrivia page, where the process is explained in detail.
- If we ever need to consider cutting multiple examples without individually reviewing them (e.g. if we discover widespread plagiarism with a particular troper's CMs), the initial discussion will be on this thread and we'll then escalate to the mod team (as described here
) to get a formal consensus if we decide to recommend a mass cut.
- If an entry was put on the wrong subpage/YMMV page, you may propose where they should be moved to.
- Full rewrites of existing entries, including expansions, trims, and ground-up rewrites. If your rewrite is approved by the thread, feel free to add it to the drafts page so that other users can check grammar and the like before it is included with the rest of the weekly swaps.
- If an entry on a work's YMMV page doesn't match the entry on the media subpage, you can bring it here to discuss which entry works better.
What does not go through this thread?
- New candidate proposals - as stated before, those are done on this thread
.
- Unapproved wicks - if a Troper encounters either of these kinds of wicks, they can be cut with no approval.
- Any CM link on a non-YMMV page - as a YMMV trope, it should not be linked on those pages regardless of any cleanup effort. The only exception is if the wick is being used within the definition of another trope.
- If an CM link on a YMMV page refers to an unapproved character. If it refers to an approved character on any such page, the wick can stay. On the other hand, if the unapproved character being linked to sounds like they might have promise (and you don't feel like checking it out for yourself), feel free to mention it on the approval thread - someone may already know why they don't count, or it could invite a brand new discussion!
- Proposals for images, quotes, and videos of already-approved CMs - quotes and images are proposed on the approval thread
, while videos can be uploaded normally as they are screened for approval by the moderation.
- Crosswicking examples to YMMV pages - if an example has already been approved and added to the main page, you do not require any special permission to add the example to a work's YMMV page (assuming the work has a page already). If a YMMV page doesn't exist yet, then you can make it yourself, but either way, feel free to just add the example without asking.
- Small changes to existing entries - these can simply be done on a Troper's own prerogative with no approval.
- Spelling and grammar fixes.
- Pothole changes.
- Minor rewordings.
- Spoiler tags.
While these changes do not require any kind of approval, it is requested that should you make any of these changes, you do one of the following:
- Make the same changes on the relevant Sandbox page, then add the Sandbox to the list at the bottom of the drafts page. This will add the Sandbox to the weekly swaps and ensure that the edits end up on the relevant locked page. If the Sandbox is already listed, then once you make the edits, your job is already done!
- If you don't know how the Sandboxes work or simply don't have the time to find it, then you can simply post on the thread about the changes you made. Someone else can then make the edit on the relevant Sandbox and add it to the weekly swaps.
- Alternatively, you can simply request that the change be made directly to the locked page on the Locked Pages thread
. Members of this thread keep track of that one, so we will ensure that the changes are made in the Sandbox so that it doesn't get deleted during the next swap.
Again, these changes don't require any approval, but we prefer to keep the entries on the YMMV pages and the locked pages the same in order to avoid any miscommunication or errors between entries, so if you do make the change, we would greatly appreciate it if you could ensure the change is made on the locked page as well.
As a final note, we do not care what other sites have to say regarding whether or not a character counts. We have our own criteria and they have theirs for their CM equivalents; while they are similar, they are not exactly the same and should not be treated as such. Another site removing a character from their equivalent should not be a reason why a cut is proposed here, and if this is the case, it will likely lead to mod intervention.
Other than this, once again, welcome to the cleanup thread, and we look forward to your contributions!

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Just found this on YMMV.Monster Musume:
- Complete Monster: Puns aside, the series has no shortage of unpleasant characters, but the top of the list has to be Wladislaus Drakulya. An abusive father to his daughter, Curie, and forcing her to do things against her will, Wladislaus is an apathetic and disgusting excuse for a parent who is far more racist than even the worst of the human characters. Add in several end goals that include genocide against other species and you get the most vile character in the entire series, which makes his final end courtesy of Lala's scythe well and truly much deserved.
Yeah, this doesn't match the format of nominated examples so I'ma just cut that out.
Alright, rereading the Dragon Ball Hermit fanfiction, we may need to cut the CM I got approved there.
Frieza, despite being somewhat worse in the Namek Saga in canon, gets some depth posthumously by his father King Cold. Apparently, he genuinely loved his mother to the point where he tried to kill Cooler in retaliation for him killing her, and King Cold’s dialogue implies Frieza would be happy if she were to be brought back by the Dragon Balls in the future.
Nothing indicates he never actually stopped loving her and prized immortality over her potential revival because Frieza, but…
Unfortunately? I think he’s gotta go.

“Get Snuck-Up On.”Okay, I just came in, literally the first thing I saw was a vote to cut Frieza, and I almost spilled my water. Anyway, cut.
Check out my YouTube channel! I make audiobooks and whatever else I feel like!I know. I was just describing my immediate reaction.

Got a possible minor addition to Slavi's writeup since the current omits it but I think it's a nasty little nugget of info for him.
Current
- Slavi is a pimp in the employ of Vladimir Pushkin and an especially revolting Starter Villain for Robert McCall. Slavi raised a girl named Alina as a prostitute from the time she was a little girl, raping her himself whenever he's not turning her over to others. When Robert inspires Alina to fight back, Slavi beats her half to death and muses next time he'll cut her throat—"maybe a whore who fucks and doesn't speak will make twice as much." Even an offer of nearly ten grand isn't enough to sway Slavi from his vile hold on Alina.

Under his control, smuggled girls are pimped and abused, with Slavi having thrown battery acid on one of them — keeping her as a horrific reminder to the other girls the results of displeasing him. Slavi expansion and cut Freeza.
About the Roblox tree at Monster.Video Games Q To S, shouldn't the Piggy and Deepwoken entries also be included within that tree since they are Roblox games?

"The time has come for every last Shoppe... No! The time has come for the DREAM KINGDOM to bow down to me! Gotcha ! Hee-hee!" | He/HimFor The Amazing Spider-Man Series entry on Norman it has a green link to The Amazing Spider Man in it when it should have The Amazing Spider-Man 1
"We'll meet again" | 🏳️⚧️Sorry for doing this again, but can people please vote on my Afton rewrite
? It's got only 4 votes so far (if we also count those from the original rewrite and not just the revised version), which is not enough if I remember correctly
I assume that since Hermit doesn’t have a trope page a mod will have take care of his cut and I won’t due to there being no YMMV?

“Get Snuck-Up On.”There was an apparently unauthorized edit to Rawhead last year.
- Rawhead Rex himself is a monster from the days before Christianity, released from the Earth in a small English village. Rawhead promptly dispatches the man who dug him out and sets about trying to regain his kingdom. The first thing he does is to murder a farmer, eat the man's little daughter alive, and kill the man's wife before attacking a police car, castrating the survivor of the crash and then burning him alive. Rawhead corrupts the local verger and hideously mutilates the reverend out of contempt for his "weak" religion. At the story's climax, Rawhead attempts to burn down all of Zeal in his fury. Unlike many literal monsters, Rawhead is a sapient being that amounts to a brutish bully who loves carnage, pain and especially eating children.
The pothole under "monster" was originally Eldritch Abomination, but has been changed to Humanoid Abomination. That being said, I don't think either of those work. As per his original EP, Rawhead isn't particularly incomprehensible and can even be killed by mundane means. I'd like to replace the pothole with Ancient Evil. Like so:

Ok this has been bugging me for awhile.
It's not a cut exactly but I believe this is something worth bringing up
- Steins;Gate 0: Alexis Leskinen is a Mad Scientist who will callously damn the world to conduct his experiments to understand Time Travel. In the Beta world line, Leskinen caused the deaths of billions in his avaricious need to beat the Russians in their advancement. When Rintaro Okabe and his resistance group try to build a time machine of their own, Leskinen attacks them and tortures Okabe into a coma. Sending messages to his past self and brainwashing another time traveler into helping that version of him, Leskinen from the past moves towards stealing a time machine, uncaring that doing so may cause a paradox and destroy the universe. Though stopped, Leskinen of the past repeats the original history and starts World War III anew.
hear is the EP https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=6vic3f9h1cy5qivsenw8llok&page=5648#comment-141188
This is needed as this is a Proposal for both the Visual Novel and Anime versions of Leskinen, we even have the same writeup listed on the VN and anime page.
Now what's the issue?
Well despite this EP saying it is for both versions of the character it only really focuses on the anime and leaves out any VN-exclusive details about him.
Some of these are very important as they contain possible mitigating qualities for him. One is a difference in motives between the versions. While anime Leskinen wants time travel just to test his theories, purposefully started World War 3, and is fine with destroying the timeline beyond repair just because it would be interesting if his VN one is less openly evil. He claims he wants the Time Machine to prevent World War 3 from happening and believes his organization being in control will prevent the War from happening (not that it matters in the end when the War starts anyway)
Another one is his relationship with his assistant Maho and the protagonist Okabe. In the anime, there is no question his affable nature to them is a facade but the VN makes things less simple. When Maho catches him revealing his true plans he is described at looking sad when realizing she heard everything as he knew he had to brainwash her now, implying he wanted to avoid this because he genuinely like her as his assistant. When revealing his goals to Okabe he states that while he did manipulate him for his own ends he did genuinely take a liking to him and admits he wishes he could be his assistant but states he need to prioritize his Organization's wishes over his own desires and apologizes for needing to torture him (but he also says he is excited to learn from this so still a twisted fellow)
Now I do have some counters to these being actually mitigating for the VN version but my issue is that this was never brought up in the EP despite is supposedly saying it was for both versions. Given the info in the EP at best we only approved the anime version of him. We never truly explored if his VN version counted due to the info being excluded.
So what I am asking his how do we handle this?
Edited by YorkobeShounen on Jun 20th 2024 at 11:24:20 AM
Berserk Button: misusing Berserk Button
I would be interested in hearing the counters as to why the VN version’s details are not mitigating, and if that’s the case we can either keep both or alter the VN writeup if need be, rather than do a move and then have to reverse it anyway.
One of these days, all of you will accept me as your supreme overlord.

Seems that way for the anime.
