Old Complete Monster cleanup thread
Welcome to the new Complete Monster (CM) cleanup thread! This thread is where we clean up or cut already-existing entries.
If you're looking to add new entries, please see the approval thread
.
IMPORTANT: Before you begin any discussions on this thread, please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List. Here, you'll find explanations of the criteria for the trope as well as our rules/procedures for approving and cutting candidates.
What goes through this thread?
- Cut requests. If you believe a CM has been approved and they do not count, this thread is where you propose their removal. To know how to go about this, please see the FAQ folder on the Administrivia page, where the process is explained in detail.
- If we ever need to consider cutting multiple examples without individually reviewing them (e.g. if we discover widespread plagiarism with a particular troper's CMs), the initial discussion will be on this thread and we'll then escalate to the mod team (as described here
) to get a formal consensus if we decide to recommend a mass cut.
- If an entry was put on the wrong subpage/YMMV page, you may propose where they should be moved to.
- Full rewrites of existing entries, including expansions, trims, and ground-up rewrites. If your rewrite is approved by the thread, feel free to add it to the drafts page so that other users can check grammar and the like before it is included with the rest of the weekly swaps.
- If an entry on a work's YMMV page doesn't match the entry on the media subpage, you can bring it here to discuss which entry works better.
What does not go through this thread?
- New candidate proposals - as stated before, those are done on this thread
.
- Unapproved wicks - if a Troper encounters either of these kinds of wicks, they can be cut with no approval.
- Any CM link on a non-YMMV page - as a YMMV trope, it should not be linked on those pages regardless of any cleanup effort. The only exception is if the wick is being used within the definition of another trope.
- If an CM link on a YMMV page refers to an unapproved character. If it refers to an approved character on any such page, the wick can stay. On the other hand, if the unapproved character being linked to sounds like they might have promise (and you don't feel like checking it out for yourself), feel free to mention it on the approval thread - someone may already know why they don't count, or it could invite a brand new discussion!
- Proposals for images, quotes, and videos of already-approved CMs - quotes and images are proposed on the approval thread
, while videos can be uploaded normally as they are screened for approval by the moderation.
- Crosswicking examples to YMMV pages - if an example has already been approved and added to the main page, you do not require any special permission to add the example to a work's YMMV page (assuming the work has a page already). If a YMMV page doesn't exist yet, then you can make it yourself, but either way, feel free to just add the example without asking.
- Small changes to existing entries - these can simply be done on a Troper's own prerogative with no approval.
- Spelling and grammar fixes.
- Pothole changes.
- Minor rewordings.
- Spoiler tags.
While these changes do not require any kind of approval, it is requested that should you make any of these changes, you do one of the following:
- Make the same changes on the relevant Sandbox page, then add the Sandbox to the list at the bottom of the drafts page. This will add the Sandbox to the weekly swaps and ensure that the edits end up on the relevant locked page. If the Sandbox is already listed, then once you make the edits, your job is already done!
- If you don't know how the Sandboxes work or simply don't have the time to find it, then you can simply post on the thread about the changes you made. Someone else can then make the edit on the relevant Sandbox and add it to the weekly swaps.
- Alternatively, you can simply request that the change be made directly to the locked page on the Locked Pages thread
. Members of this thread keep track of that one, so we will ensure that the changes are made in the Sandbox so that it doesn't get deleted during the next swap.
Again, these changes don't require any approval, but we prefer to keep the entries on the YMMV pages and the locked pages the same in order to avoid any miscommunication or errors between entries, so if you do make the change, we would greatly appreciate it if you could ensure the change is made on the locked page as well.
As a final note, we do not care what other sites have to say regarding whether or not a character counts. We have our own criteria and they have theirs for their CM equivalents; while they are similar, they are not exactly the same and should not be treated as such. Another site removing a character from their equivalent should not be a reason why a cut is proposed here, and if this is the case, it will likely lead to mod intervention.
Other than this, once again, welcome to the cleanup thread, and we look forward to your contributions!

Something I'd like to discuss:
- Murder Party: Alexander is a sinister, seemingly wealthy man who organizes the titular "Murder Party" that lures in Chris Hawley, before taking him hostage. Alexander then asserts his dominance over the group of artists present and instructs them how to murder Christopher in a group effort. As the night goes on, Alexander plays sadistic mind games with the group and eventually reveals he's just a fry cook named Tim who planned to trick them all into committing a gruesome murder before killing all of them to steal their artwork and make it more valuable to sell when they were all dead. He immediately attempts to kill everyone present following this revelation.
Now, he's been questioned a few times before but discussion just kinda stopped, often pointing back to his original EP
which was admittedly done to get consensus on a character OP was unsure on.
I'm... kinda iffy on him both from a Played for Laughs from and a heinousness one. It's true his scheme's murder for riches, no bones about it but there are so many scenes of him being silly, getting high on meth he comes across more like a comedy film douchebag than a Laughably Evil murderer I'd wanna see for CM.
Likewise, I do think Bill's insane rampage at the end is significant and nasty or not as Alexander's scheme is, it means he's got something notable to go up against while he only plans to murder a handful of people.
If he stays that's cool but he's one I'm not quite seeing as meeting the standard and I'd like to take the time to give him a thorough discussion.
Can I get more opinions on my Afton rewrite
? It got kinda buried and got only 2 votes.
I am mostly fine with it, would just remove the 'hunting night guards in a blind quest for revenge' bit. I feel like just listing how they haunt the pizzeria animatronics is enough(And the idea they want revenge was just a fan theory. The second game hints they are just hostile to adults in general, which is supported by the silver eyes)
Bow to the PrototypeKidnapped for Experimentation is a thing? Huh.
Also, don't forget to pothole the games in the rewrite if possible.
EDIT: Game of Thrones. Since Ramsay's page got merged, anyone mind if we use Bastard Bastard around "bastard son"; Ax-Crazy for his name; and chop this last sentence?
With few matching his pointless savagery, Ramsay Snow exemplified every negative stereotype about bastards in Westeros.

I'd do Sadist for Ramsay, hurting I his number one joy.
Show!Joff can also lose the last sentence I gave him if you like, the comparison to Aerys is stated in the book and I muddied that lol

I was gonna do that, but sadist is already there. Here's how I propose the first sentence:
Ramsay Bolton/Snow, the bastard son of Lord Roose Bolton and the most vicious member of House Bolton, is a sadist with a knack for torture and flaying others alive.
Littlefinger I'll use Smug Snake, since Manipulative Bastard and The Chessmaster are already there.

I've listened to criticism. How's this?
- William Afton is the co-founder of the Fazbear franchise who used politeness and charm to hide narcissism and sociopathy. A Serial Killer of children, Afton would remain apathetic when his victims — including his best friend's daughter — would go on to possess the pizzeria's animatronics and become violent murderers. Creating the Funtime animatronics to do his dirty work for him, when his own daughter Elizabeth is caught in the crossfire and haunts Circus Baby, Afton locks the robots underground and has them tortured to maintain obedience. Any children Afton would kidnap would be brought to that very underground location, where they would be experimented on and exposed to horrific hallucinations for years on end. Even death would not stop Afton; upon a fatal accident, he simply haunts his corpse and tries to continue his killing spree, setting his sights on his own son Michael and a whole restaurant full of children. Directly or indirectly responsible for nearly every tragedy in the series, Afton is the monstrous human compared to the more humane monsters.
Just so you guys are aware, someone started threads for the RWBY and Bleach pages here
and here
, if you want to vote or weigh in.
Got an old pre-EP writeup I want to clean up.
Old:
- Deepgate Codex: Scar Night brings us Ulcis, the god of chains. After rebelling against his mother, Ayen, and being flung to Earth, Ulcis takes up residence in a seemingly bottomless abyss. Using his Herald, Callis, as his representative, Ulcis gathers an army of followers and orders them to construct the city of Deepgate atop of his abyss, promising salvation and a chance at reclaiming Heaven from Ayen to all those who die in his service. This results in the creation of a culture of people who dedicate their lives to waiting to die, creating a high suicide rate, and a total lack of anything approaching an appreciation for life. This is not the bad part. The bad part is that Ulcis is lying. He has no interest in reclaiming Heaven (he'd much rather Take Over the World) and he and his undead horde of angels instead devour the souls sent to him. That's without getting into his treatment of his daughter. Having found an attractive corpse, Ulcis reanimated her, raped her, and then impregnated her, keeping her alive so that he might enjoy her suffering. When his daughter's birth resulted in the woman dying again and being released from her agony Ulcis tried to hang the child from one of the city's foundation chains. When the girl chewed through the rope, Ulcis recaptured her, abused her, and had her gangraped by his undead, gloating that there was no point in taking her soul because by the end, there wasn't one left. When he encounters his daughter again (her having since become an amnesiac Serial Killer), he gloatingly informs her of what happened to her, forces her to recall it, than indicates that all of his soldiers remember her and would love to do it again. "They remember you. My little Rebecca. My little carnival freak."
New:
- Deepgate Codex: Ulcis, the god of chains, rebelled against his mother, Ayen was subsequently exiled to Earth. Ulcis takes up residence in a Bottomless Pit and gathers himself an army of followers, ordering them to construct the city of Deepgate atop of his abyss. Ulcis promises his followers salvation if they die in his service—lying through his teeth—and thus creates a a culture of people who dedicate their entire lives entirely to the preparation of their inevitable death, killing themselves in such numbers that Deepgate becomes infamous for it. The souls of all those who fall for Ulcis' trick are consumed by him and his undead horde of angels, erasing them utterly. Having found an attractive corpse, Ulcis reanimated the dead woman, raped her, and then impregnated her, keeping her alive so that he might enjoy her suffering until she died in childbirth. When his daughter's birth resulted in the woman dying again, Ulcis tried to hang the child from one of the city's foundation chains. When the girl chewed through the rope, Ulcis recaptured her and had her gang-raped by his undead, gloating that there was no point in taking her soul because by the end, there wasn't one left. Absolutely unrepentant of his atrocities, and glorying in how much of an abusive father he is, Ulcis mocks her over her Dark and Troubled Past, dubbing her "my little carnival freak."

VideoGame.Home Front - remember this (unintentionally hilarious) "North-Korea-Takes-Over-the-World" FPS from around a decade ago? When G proposed an (intentionally) overblown version of Kim Jong-un?
Having gone through a (mercifully shorter) playthrough on the tube, yeah, I'm ready to vouch for the Historical Villain Upgrade! Kim Jong-Un (apparently, the irl Kim loves this game...) - he doesn't appear in person outside the opening FMV, but you do see his propaganda posters, hear his quotes on the radio, and evidence of his conquest on US soil (mass graves, public executions, etc) during gameplay.
He's absent in the sequel, though if anyone's curious... nobody keeps in Homefront 2. Just saying
