Old Complete Monster cleanup thread
Welcome to the new Complete Monster (CM) cleanup thread! This thread is where we clean up or cut already-existing entries.
If you're looking to add new entries, please see the approval thread
.
IMPORTANT: Before you begin any discussions on this thread, please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List. Here, you'll find explanations of the criteria for the trope as well as our rules/procedures for approving and cutting candidates.
What goes through this thread?
- Cut requests. If you believe a CM has been approved and they do not count, this thread is where you propose their removal. To know how to go about this, please see the FAQ folder on the Administrivia page, where the process is explained in detail.
- If we ever need to consider cutting multiple examples without individually reviewing them (e.g. if we discover widespread plagiarism with a particular troper's CMs), the initial discussion will be on this thread and we'll then escalate to the mod team (as described here
) to get a formal consensus if we decide to recommend a mass cut.
- If an entry was put on the wrong subpage/YMMV page, you may propose where they should be moved to.
- Full rewrites of existing entries, including expansions, trims, and ground-up rewrites. If your rewrite is approved by the thread, feel free to add it to the drafts page so that other users can check grammar and the like before it is included with the rest of the weekly swaps.
- If an entry on a work's YMMV page doesn't match the entry on the media subpage, you can bring it here to discuss which entry works better.
What does not go through this thread?
- New candidate proposals - as stated before, those are done on this thread
.
- Unapproved wicks - if a Troper encounters either of these kinds of wicks, they can be cut with no approval.
- Any CM link on a non-YMMV page - as a YMMV trope, it should not be linked on those pages regardless of any cleanup effort. The only exception is if the wick is being used within the definition of another trope.
- If an CM link on a YMMV page refers to an unapproved character. If it refers to an approved character on any such page, the wick can stay. On the other hand, if the unapproved character being linked to sounds like they might have promise (and you don't feel like checking it out for yourself), feel free to mention it on the approval thread - someone may already know why they don't count, or it could invite a brand new discussion!
- Proposals for images, quotes, and videos of already-approved CMs - quotes and images are proposed on the approval thread
, while videos can be uploaded normally as they are screened for approval by the moderation.
- Crosswicking examples to YMMV pages - if an example has already been approved and added to the main page, you do not require any special permission to add the example to a work's YMMV page (assuming the work has a page already). If a YMMV page doesn't exist yet, then you can make it yourself, but either way, feel free to just add the example without asking.
- Small changes to existing entries - these can simply be done on a Troper's own prerogative with no approval.
- Spelling and grammar fixes.
- Pothole changes.
- Minor rewordings.
- Spoiler tags.
While these changes do not require any kind of approval, it is requested that should you make any of these changes, you do one of the following:
- Make the same changes on the relevant Sandbox page, then add the Sandbox to the list at the bottom of the drafts page. This will add the Sandbox to the weekly swaps and ensure that the edits end up on the relevant locked page. If the Sandbox is already listed, then once you make the edits, your job is already done!
- If you don't know how the Sandboxes work or simply don't have the time to find it, then you can simply post on the thread about the changes you made. Someone else can then make the edit on the relevant Sandbox and add it to the weekly swaps.
- Alternatively, you can simply request that the change be made directly to the locked page on the Locked Pages thread
. Members of this thread keep track of that one, so we will ensure that the changes are made in the Sandbox so that it doesn't get deleted during the next swap.
Again, these changes don't require any approval, but we prefer to keep the entries on the YMMV pages and the locked pages the same in order to avoid any miscommunication or errors between entries, so if you do make the change, we would greatly appreciate it if you could ensure the change is made on the locked page as well.
As a final note, we do not care what other sites have to say regarding whether or not a character counts. We have our own criteria and they have theirs for their CM equivalents; while they are similar, they are not exactly the same and should not be treated as such. Another site removing a character from their equivalent should not be a reason why a cut is proposed here, and if this is the case, it will likely lead to mod intervention.
Other than this, once again, welcome to the cleanup thread, and we look forward to your contributions!

As one who proposed good number of fanfic Palpatines, I understand that people feel like it’s to much and would be all for people who watch make what if video proposals spacing out when proposing Palpatine.
That being said, I think our criteria for what if videos are fine as they are. Most videos I watched (esspecaly ones from which I proposed) have narative and are written more like fanfics in audio form that treatments.
That’s where I stand on this personaly.

I can confrim that Palpatine videos I watched and proposed from would be able to be troped if somebody wanted to do it. Same with ones from which I didn’t.

Yeah. I think our rules for what ifs are fine. Like for example, Fanscription has a lot of voicing acting, animation, and so on to make it more than just plot outlines. From what I have seen most of the Star Wars ones are similar.
Also, yeah the new rules of them not needing new crimes are not really what is happening with the Palpatine. What ifs by nature are full of new crimes.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadJust checked out Sputnik, one of G's stuff:
The movie's a dull, dull, dull, dull... slog to emulate the Alien franchise, buuuuuut —
... Colonel Semiradov can stay. The character's an expy of Mason Wren from Resurrection and Humans Are the Real Monsters are in play here, I'll at least vouch for this guy
Good job. I'm glad didn't start watching this movie.
A while ago, Ravok asked if anyone would vouch for the villain from Shinobi no Ittoki and since no one vouched, would it be okay with the thread's approval to cut the villain until someone could check to see if the villain really mattered or was a gross exaggeration?
Also, since here
I was given permission to cut out candidates from Voice, they will be deleted.

As far as “What If ?” Or other such stories or fics, my stance is “are the actually telling us a story ? Or are they reading off footnotes ?”
Like if these kinds of videos come off as reading Wikipedia style summaries of events or just recaping a hypothetical narrative — something like that I’m sceptical on. A 200 or so note summarizing ehat happened with no details, expansion or real description ? That doesn’t cut it for me.
But if you have something like the Spider-Man (James Cameron) scriptment — a beat for beat description of the movie, containing character dialogue, descriptions of the characters and such — that in a little more lenient towards.
And if they contain visuals, concept art and voice acting — like say SNARLED for a non fanfiction example — that’s all the more better. So long as it’s not just “And then X happens, then Y happens and then Z.”
As for the Palpatine proposals, I guess I have nothing inherently against them — provided the videos aren’t just “summaries”…but it is getting fatiguing. and it wouldn’t help to have some time between proposals. After a while, I just stopped voting on the. I don’t want to sound like I'm accusing the proposers, but it lowkey feels like all these Fanon!Palaptine's were being mined for.

"It's like...a cliff, and if I do it, I'm just gonna...fall." "I think we're already falling."Just taking time to say that the "too similar" rule was decided to not be valid and was removed for a reason. We have film and lit pages troping examples from adaptations that share tropes, this trope shouldn't be any different. I'm fine with that rule being gone and I think most of the thread is, as well. Most of these Palpatines and such don't even fall under the "too similar" argument anyway, so I don't see the point in interjecting it into this convo about whether the Palpatines come from sufficiently-detailed plots.
No! That is NOT Solid Snake! Stop impersonating him!Largely agree with Rav… they’re not interesting to me so I tend to skip over them but if he counts he counts. We don’t discount Luke in Rocky Handsome because the plot is a ripoff of The Man From Nowhere that really just changes the names and setting while literally using the same story down to the villain’s exact personality and crimes.
I usually keep up to date with the Monster purpose thread; I don't have enough time nowadays to put in a vote or two in there, and when I do read through it, a Palpatine proposal questions me why he's not put on a list. There are so many fanons that make him a through-and-through monster without doing much to change the character. My two cents anyhow.
I have a question: with Chucky ending its third season, the monster section could use some reworking since the end of Season 1. Season 2 saw him terrorize his enemies at a boarding school and Season 3 up the ante with him at the White House. How does one want to rework Chucky, especially during seasons 2 and 3?
I know Black Comedy is a subjective element for monsters, but I genuinely can't tell if we're supposed to find Chucky funny or frightening anymore. Wanting to nuke the North Pole just to make children think Santa Claus is dead is crossing the line over into seriousness issues for me.
Think you're tough because you made it through Lord of the Rings? Real men survive The Silmarillion.![]()
Wait seriously? That sounds like some Professor Zoom levels of petty!
Okay, that is honestly kind of amazing.
From what I've seen of clips and such he still has moments of geniune horror and such. Even if he's extremely Laughably Evil.
Bow to the PrototypeI do understand where you're getting at, but when Chucky's last action before dying is to push the nuke button while yelling "Fuck Santa!", I personally have a hard time taking his character seriously anymore.
Think you're tough because you made it through Lord of the Rings? Real men survive The Silmarillion.Yeah, no, Chucky stays. I'm a big fan of the show, it's horror with elements of Black Comedy, but still horror. Chucky is treated as a genuine threat by everyone around him—hell, the whole goal of the main protagonists is to make sure he stays dead and stop his killing spree once and for all—his Laughably Evil moments are not mitigating at all.
Also? He was literally going to nuke major cities, the North Pole was his third option. The heroes manage to deactivate the first two before he could launch the missiles.

I actually have two CM proposals and 1 MB proposal in relation to two "fixing GOT characters" videos by Supercuts Delight. I personally don't have an issue with people proposing characters from this kind of What If? stories, but I do agree that the Palpatine proposals are getting a bit excessive.
