Old Complete Monster cleanup thread
Welcome to the new Complete Monster (CM) cleanup thread! This thread is where we clean up or cut already-existing entries.
If you're looking to add new entries, please see the approval thread
.
IMPORTANT: Before you begin any discussions on this thread, please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List. Here, you'll find explanations of the criteria for the trope as well as our rules/procedures for approving and cutting candidates.
What goes through this thread?
- Cut requests. If you believe a CM has been approved and they do not count, this thread is where you propose their removal. To know how to go about this, please see the FAQ folder on the Administrivia page, where the process is explained in detail.
- If we ever need to consider cutting multiple examples without individually reviewing them (e.g. if we discover widespread plagiarism with a particular troper's CMs), the initial discussion will be on this thread and we'll then escalate to the mod team (as described here
) to get a formal consensus if we decide to recommend a mass cut.
- If an entry was put on the wrong subpage/YMMV page, you may propose where they should be moved to.
- Full rewrites of existing entries, including expansions, trims, and ground-up rewrites. If your rewrite is approved by the thread, feel free to add it to the drafts page so that other users can check grammar and the like before it is included with the rest of the weekly swaps.
- If an entry on a work's YMMV page doesn't match the entry on the media subpage, you can bring it here to discuss which entry works better.
What does not go through this thread?
- New candidate proposals - as stated before, those are done on this thread
.
- Unapproved wicks - if a Troper encounters either of these kinds of wicks, they can be cut with no approval.
- Any CM link on a non-YMMV page - as a YMMV trope, it should not be linked on those pages regardless of any cleanup effort. The only exception is if the wick is being used within the definition of another trope.
- If an CM link on a YMMV page refers to an unapproved character. If it refers to an approved character on any such page, the wick can stay. On the other hand, if the unapproved character being linked to sounds like they might have promise (and you don't feel like checking it out for yourself), feel free to mention it on the approval thread - someone may already know why they don't count, or it could invite a brand new discussion!
- Proposals for images, quotes, and videos of already-approved CMs - quotes and images are proposed on the approval thread
, while videos can be uploaded normally as they are screened for approval by the moderation.
- Crosswicking examples to YMMV pages - if an example has already been approved and added to the main page, you do not require any special permission to add the example to a work's YMMV page (assuming the work has a page already). If a YMMV page doesn't exist yet, then you can make it yourself, but either way, feel free to just add the example without asking.
- Small changes to existing entries - these can simply be done on a Troper's own prerogative with no approval.
- Spelling and grammar fixes.
- Pothole changes.
- Minor rewordings.
- Spoiler tags.
While these changes do not require any kind of approval, it is requested that should you make any of these changes, you do one of the following:
- Make the same changes on the relevant Sandbox page, then add the Sandbox to the list at the bottom of the drafts page. This will add the Sandbox to the weekly swaps and ensure that the edits end up on the relevant locked page. If the Sandbox is already listed, then once you make the edits, your job is already done!
- If you don't know how the Sandboxes work or simply don't have the time to find it, then you can simply post on the thread about the changes you made. Someone else can then make the edit on the relevant Sandbox and add it to the weekly swaps.
- Alternatively, you can simply request that the change be made directly to the locked page on the Locked Pages thread
. Members of this thread keep track of that one, so we will ensure that the changes are made in the Sandbox so that it doesn't get deleted during the next swap.
Again, these changes don't require any approval, but we prefer to keep the entries on the YMMV pages and the locked pages the same in order to avoid any miscommunication or errors between entries, so if you do make the change, we would greatly appreciate it if you could ensure the change is made on the locked page as well.
As a final note, we do not care what other sites have to say regarding whether or not a character counts. We have our own criteria and they have theirs for their CM equivalents; while they are similar, they are not exactly the same and should not be treated as such. Another site removing a character from their equivalent should not be a reason why a cut is proposed here, and if this is the case, it will likely lead to mod intervention.
Other than this, once again, welcome to the cleanup thread, and we look forward to your contributions!

So I was busy creating a folder for canditates proposed by ban evaders until I saw a CM entry for a character from the novel Sold who was proposed by a ban evader. Normally I would remove such an entry and cite this thread, but the problem is that said entry is the only thing listed on the novels YMMV page. Is this where I have to ask for permission to cutlist the YMMV page given it revolves around the Complete Monster Trope?

"The time has come for every last Shoppe... No! The time has come for the DREAM KINGDOM to bow down to me! Gotcha ! Hee-hee!" | He/HimDidn't we keep this one from memory. I think someone else vouched for this lady and re wrote her right (Fried Warthog so I think thna it's fine to keep her entry)
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Regarding Mumtaz and their entry on his book's YMMV Page, Can I cutlist the YMMV page since Mumtaz' CM entry is the only thing included on said page?
Edit:
The rewrites look good to me!

"The time has come for every last Shoppe... No! The time has come for the DREAM KINGDOM to bow down to me! Gotcha ! Hee-hee!" | He/HimI would like to rewrite a couple of entries, since they are quite long, and expand one more.
Old.
Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go! On the surface, Ma and Pa Sheenko appear to just be the kindly old owners of Shuggazoom City's arcade, but in reality the two are the leaders of the Skeletal Circle, an Apocalypse Cult made up of Shuggazoomians who have sworn allegiance to the Skeleton King. In the past, the couple offered their daughter, Valeena, to the Skeleton King, who tainted her with his evil, turning her into the wicked Skull Sorceress. After the Skeleton King was killed, the Sheenkos stole his skull so that they could take its power for themselves and pick up where the Skeleton King left off by raining destruction down on the universe, starting with their own "pathetic" home world of Shuggazoom. Ma and Pa unleash worsening supernatural disasters on Shuggazoom City, and when a vagrant stumbles onto one of the Skeletal Circle's underground chambers, he is strung up and left to be Eaten Alive by giant rats summoned by Ma and Pa. Before using the Skeleton King's power to mutate themselves into demons, Ma and Pa ask their daughter to join them, and when she refuses, they attack her while declaring that she will suffer along with everyone else on Shuggazoom.
Dragon: Marked for Death The Astral Dragon Atruum is a draconic deity embodied by the Blood Moon. Millennia ago, Atruum and his Asura waged a war against the Celestial Primatis—a simian deity embodied by the Alabaster Moon—and his Deva over who would get to rule over the world and devour the souls of mortals. Vanquished, the dying Atruum formed a blood contract with an imperiled clan of humans, marking them with the Dragon Scar in emulation of Primatis's Holy Stigmata. Feigning benevolence, Atruum was worshipped as a guardian deity by the Dragonblood Clan—his disembodied soul sustained by their faith—while plotting to sacrifice them to be reborn. When the Divine King Duchis Medius carried out a genocide against his worshippers, Atruum manipulated a survivor into swearing revenge, empowering them through their Dragon Scar and instructing them to strengthen themselves by consuming the souls of slain enemies. Once the Divine King was vanquished and Primatis withdrew from the mortal world, Atruum revealed his deception, using his priestess Amica's body as a vessel and attempting to devour the survivor. In one ending, Atruum uses the survivor as a vessel to be reborn more powerful than ever, destroying the Alabaster Moon to kill Primatis and ruling over humankind with contempt.

Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go! The seemingly kind and polite slot machine owners Ma and Pa Shienko are in fact the leaders of the Skeleton Circle cult, worshiping the Skeleton King. In the past, the couple offered their daughter Valina to the Skeleton King, who tainted her with his evil, turning her into the evil Skull Sorceress. After the Skeleton King was killed, Shienko stole his skull to take its power for themselves and pick up where the Skeleton King left off. When a vagrant stumbles upon one of the underground rooms of the Skeleton Circle, Shienko is he strung up and left to be eaten alive by giant rats. Using the power of the Skeleton King's skull, Ma and Pa begin to unleash destruction and supernatural disasters on their "pathetic" homeworld of Shuggazum, starting on Shuggazum City, planning to spread disaster and destruction throughout the universe, not caring about the countless deaths while they receive strength and power before attempting to kill his daughter Valena for refusing to join them.
Dragon: Marked for Death Millennia ago, the Astral Dragon Atruum and his Asura waged a war against the Heavenly Primatis for the right to rule the world and devour the souls of mortals. Defeated and dying, Atruum made a blood contract with a threatened clan of humans, marking them with the Dragon Scar in exchange for worship, secretly planning to sacrifice them all for his revival. When the Divine King Medius committed genocide against his worshipers, Atruum manipulated the survivors, playing on their hatred and desire for revenge, forcing them to devour the souls of their deceased enemies.Once the Divine King was defeated and Primatis left the mortal world, Atruum revealed his deception, using the body of his priestess Amika as a vessel and attempting to consume the survivor. In one ending, Atruum uses a survivor as a vessel to be reborn more powerful than ever, destroying the Alabaster Moon to kill Primatis, and enslaving all of humanity, intending to absorb their souls to enhance his power.

Although I should note that entry isn't crosswicked on the Literature pages
"We'll meet again" | 🏳️⚧️That's why I asked if I could remove the entry or cutlist the page since ban evader CM entry is the only thing on the page.

"The time has come for every last Shoppe... No! The time has come for the DREAM KINGDOM to bow down to me! Gotcha ! Hee-hee!" | He/Him![]()
Thanks for the answer ACW!
Edit: Due to me being a new user I can't cutlist the Sold YMMV page yet, so can somebody who can cutlist certain pages do so?

"The time has come for every last Shoppe... No! The time has come for the DREAM KINGDOM to bow down to me! Gotcha ! Hee-hee!" | He/Himjlvs200s:Thanks a lot!
ACW:Added, thank you. I also recommend adding Atruum first. Not only is he more important, but as far as I can tell, he's also the first one to show up. Although Atruum and Medius are something of a Big Bad Ensemble, Medius is definitely the Disc-One Final Boss, so I think it's fair to put Atruum first.
Is it only season 4 worth mentioning about Shienko? Since in general all their crimes occur in season 4, more precisely in 2-3 episodes. Or is it better to mention the episodes themselves? How do we feel about monsters that appear in seasons or arcs but do nothing, but other seasons and arcs focus on their crimes?

Okay, IF an entry is cut, and that's the only item on the YMMV, the YMMV can be cutlisted. I usually do something like:
Only entry is Complete Monster, which was (pothole the following to the link of the post) cut by the thread
Atruum can go first. As to your other question...I'm not sure.
EDIT: I found the post vouching for Mumtaz
. Though since it's apparently a ban evader...

Just a question about Rourke from Atlantis: The Lost Empire. His character page says this:
- Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: While it's never mentioned in the movie itself, supplementary material reveals that Rourke greatly looked up to his father as a child and that it was deeply traumatizing when his dad was killed in service at a young age. Some of his ruthlessness could be explained as a desire to not succumb to the same weakness that killed his dad.
Are these supplementary materials canon? And if so, should we cut him?
Prepare for a bitter harvest...
Frolaytia X Qwenthur of Heavy Object
Something tells me that argument was shot down before since this seems to just be a case of All There in the Manual and ultimately glossed over.
IPP Wick Check created.
If that's the case, shouldn't it be either scrapped entirely or completely rewritten since it implies the character has redeeming qualities that even the medium its representing does not establish to exist?

If you feel like it's an example of Draco in Leather Pants you could do something about it on the page if you feel like it. I think anyway.
Well I don't really know anything about it, I'm just saying what it sounds like from Dood's description of the situation, so if it is gonna be cut, someone else should do it.

@Amonimous: If everything Yuga does is just the result of being the pawn of an evil regime, then I’m happy to keep him cut. Thanks for your input!
