Old Complete Monster cleanup thread
Welcome to the new Complete Monster (CM) cleanup thread! This thread is where we clean up or cut already-existing entries.
If you're looking to add new entries, please see the approval thread
.
IMPORTANT: Before you begin any discussions on this thread, please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List. Here, you'll find explanations of the criteria for the trope as well as our rules/procedures for approving and cutting candidates.
What goes through this thread?
- Cut requests. If you believe a CM has been approved and they do not count, this thread is where you propose their removal. To know how to go about this, please see the FAQ folder on the Administrivia page, where the process is explained in detail.
- If we ever need to consider cutting multiple examples without individually reviewing them (e.g. if we discover widespread plagiarism with a particular troper's CMs), the initial discussion will be on this thread and we'll then escalate to the mod team (as described here
) to get a formal consensus if we decide to recommend a mass cut.
- If an entry was put on the wrong subpage/YMMV page, you may propose where they should be moved to.
- Full rewrites of existing entries, including expansions, trims, and ground-up rewrites. If your rewrite is approved by the thread, feel free to add it to the drafts page so that other users can check grammar and the like before it is included with the rest of the weekly swaps.
- If an entry on a work's YMMV page doesn't match the entry on the media subpage, you can bring it here to discuss which entry works better.
What does not go through this thread?
- New candidate proposals - as stated before, those are done on this thread
.
- Unapproved wicks - if a Troper encounters either of these kinds of wicks, they can be cut with no approval.
- Any CM link on a non-YMMV page - as a YMMV trope, it should not be linked on those pages regardless of any cleanup effort. The only exception is if the wick is being used within the definition of another trope.
- If an CM link on a YMMV page refers to an unapproved character. If it refers to an approved character on any such page, the wick can stay. On the other hand, if the unapproved character being linked to sounds like they might have promise (and you don't feel like checking it out for yourself), feel free to mention it on the approval thread - someone may already know why they don't count, or it could invite a brand new discussion!
- Proposals for images, quotes, and videos of already-approved CMs - quotes and images are proposed on the approval thread
, while videos can be uploaded normally as they are screened for approval by the moderation.
- Crosswicking examples to YMMV pages - if an example has already been approved and added to the main page, you do not require any special permission to add the example to a work's YMMV page (assuming the work has a page already). If a YMMV page doesn't exist yet, then you can make it yourself, but either way, feel free to just add the example without asking.
- Small changes to existing entries - these can simply be done on a Troper's own prerogative with no approval.
- Spelling and grammar fixes.
- Pothole changes.
- Minor rewordings.
- Spoiler tags.
While these changes do not require any kind of approval, it is requested that should you make any of these changes, you do one of the following:
- Make the same changes on the relevant Sandbox page, then add the Sandbox to the list at the bottom of the drafts page. This will add the Sandbox to the weekly swaps and ensure that the edits end up on the relevant locked page. If the Sandbox is already listed, then once you make the edits, your job is already done!
- If you don't know how the Sandboxes work or simply don't have the time to find it, then you can simply post on the thread about the changes you made. Someone else can then make the edit on the relevant Sandbox and add it to the weekly swaps.
- Alternatively, you can simply request that the change be made directly to the locked page on the Locked Pages thread
. Members of this thread keep track of that one, so we will ensure that the changes are made in the Sandbox so that it doesn't get deleted during the next swap.
Again, these changes don't require any approval, but we prefer to keep the entries on the YMMV pages and the locked pages the same in order to avoid any miscommunication or errors between entries, so if you do make the change, we would greatly appreciate it if you could ensure the change is made on the locked page as well.
As a final note, we do not care what other sites have to say regarding whether or not a character counts. We have our own criteria and they have theirs for their CM equivalents; while they are similar, they are not exactly the same and should not be treated as such. Another site removing a character from their equivalent should not be a reason why a cut is proposed here, and if this is the case, it will likely lead to mod intervention.
Other than this, once again, welcome to the cleanup thread, and we look forward to your contributions!

Keep the Advance Wars and Persona quotes. I'm honestly not sure about the Octopath quote, because the character they're talking about is actually Lucia's Psycho for Hire Gideon (who doesn't count; he a total Flat Character working, to the letter, on Lucia's orders).
The rest, cut, trim, or move as necessary.
Echoing Scrags on the quotes!
Speaking of quotes, with another book release in the series, need to do a slight update to one of my worst baddies to come through here:
- White is the Coldest Colour & When Evil Calls Your Name, by John Nicholl: Dr. David Galbraith is an absolutely vile child molester and sexual abuser, using his position as a child psychologist to target boys as young as three years old for abuse, rape, and even horrific torture, before shaming and humiliating the children into keeping silent about it. Galbraith subjects his wife Cynthia—who he gained by murdering her then-fiancé—and two daughters to horrible physical and mental torments out of hatred at his children not being boys he can molest, and runs a massive pedophile ring in his free time that he runs his own daughters through. Often killing small animals in front of children to further terrify them into compliance, Galbraith tortures one of his victims to death and then tears down his accomplice into suicide to eliminate him as a witness. Upon choosing his latest victim Anthony, Galbraith, as revenge against the boy's family for thwarting his many attempts at abusing Anthony, bludgeons his mother to near-death then plans to torture the child to death, filming the whole thing on video and then sending the footage to his family. When Cynthia tries to save Anthony from Galbraith, Galbraith responds by brutally beating the woman into submission and then promising to subject her to torture for the rest of her life for crossing him.
So firstly, the novels have been renamed entirely so that needs to be adjusted. Secondly, I wanna trim the entry slightly and offer some clarification to things that the final novel put forth—such as his victim count measuring in the hundreds.
- The Galbraith Series, by John Nicholl: Dr. David Galbraith is an absolutely horrific pedophile, using his position as a child psychologist to target boys as young as three years old for abuse, rape, and torture that he films. Galbraith subjects his wife Cynthia—whose first fiancé he murdered—and his two daughters to horrible physical and mental torments out of hatred that his children aren't boys he can molest, and he runs a massive pedophile ring in his free time that leads to the abuse of hundreds of children. Often killing small animals in front of the children to terrify them into compliance, Galbraith tortures one of his victims to death and then drives his accomplice to suicide to eliminate him as a witness. Upon choosing his latest victim Anthony, Galbraith bludgeons the boy's mother to near-death then plans to torture Anthony to death, film the whole thing, and then send the footage to his family. When Cynthia tries to save Anthony from Galbraith, Galbraith brutally beats her and promises to torture her to death for crossing him.
And in regards to quotes, here's two more about the ol' bastard, honestly much better than the current ones from him on the page:

No! That is NOT Solid Snake! Stop impersonating him! From Kaiserredux
- Lavrentiy Beria, in earlier version of the mod, is the leader of the "People's Guard", the armed wing of the neo-Bolshevik movement in the Socialist state of Georgia, and Ioseb Jughashvili's second-in-command. In the wake of Jughashvili's ascension to power, Beria would facilitate the arrest and subsequent purging of the Mensheviks from Georgia's government. If Jughashvili dies in a hunting accident implied to have been orchestrated by Beria, Beria would seize power for himself, killing anyone suspecting his role in Jughashvili's death. As leader of Georgia, Beria will launch a persecution of ethnic minorities, implementing laws forcing them to have only one children while enacting propaganda promoting the "genetic superiority" of Georgians, and subsequently pushing minorities and any political dissidents into slave labor in the Gulags where they are forced into penal battalions or experimented upon in the name of progress. In addition, Beria will take advantage of the economic liberalization he initiates in Georgia to establish Human Trafficking routes, with the intention of using it to track down women, children and the mentally ill to serve as his sex slaves.
As Beria no longer exists in this mod, and we don't remove characters that got scrubbed from mods and fan works, I propose this rewrite:
- Lavrentiy Beria, present in earlier version of the mod, was depicted as the leader of the "People's Guard", the armed wing of the neo-Bolshevik movement in the Socialist state of Georgia, and Ioseb Jughashvili's second-in-command. PS: While this has nothing to do with the CM trope, regarding content no longer existing, I might propose MacMillian from TNO for Magnificent Bastard as well on the MB thread.

So uh something I need to ask about. So apparently the savanti Romero that appears in the idw comics is the same one from mirage.
Nornally I don't care about stuff like that due to depending on the writer meaning that in this stuff in practice means nothing, like say darkseid being a "multiversal constant". Different writers and mediums will just ignore it. So it's kind of pointless to consider.
Expect the idw comics are written by Kevin Eastman. Aka the guy who wrote mirage as well. So if he says its the same person. Than it kind of means we sorta have to acknowledge that. So does he have any like Dqs or do anything else worth adding to his entry ?
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."
I have no knowledge of the TMNT comics, so can't comment there.
Since an eighth just got approved, do we want to start a Ninjago page? Or should we wait for the next two that will likely be coming in October?
This character hasn't been approved yet, and he probably won't for a while even if he does count (there are some agency issues). But I'm absolutely keeping this in reserve if he does, because it slaps.
@ACW: The latest book was kind of redundant because it's, basically, just a detailed recap of the events of the first two books from multiple characters' POV, but yeah it clarifies his victim count and just re-emphasizes that he's pure evil. So much so that another pedophile bastard who would keep easily in any other work is thoroughly outshined lol
He winds up stabbed to death by Cynthia, btw.
For sure love that quote as a potential if the character winds up counting!
Mir had that image for Doctor Poison, right?
As for a header, um... this work?
Wonder Woman is one of the oldest superheroes in the DC Universe, an unfaltering figure of compassion who will always stand up for those in need. These villains, who refuse any overture at peace or love, are some of her most cruel and irredeemable opponents.
Also: Monster Ninjago. Did a few edits to improve flow/grammar, though I want to make a few larger edits for the Omega and Overlord that I'll bring here later.
I tweaked it a bit:
Wonder Woman is one of the oldest superheroes in the DC Universe, an unfaltering figure of compassion who will always stand up for those in need. Some of the Amazing Amazon's cruelest enemies, however, refuse any overture at peace or love, and are her utterly irredeemable.
EDIT: And I assume it was Anthony's family Galbraith was going to send the footage to?

Hoi hoi, so I noticed that Bravely Default has seven entries on the main Video Games list. Is that enough for its own page?
Orrrrr is this the wrong thread to discuss that?
Edited by Voyd211 on Sep 7th 2023 at 6:30:36 AM
Right thread, but while 7 is the minimum for a page I don't think it's quite necessary for Bravely Default yet
"We'll meet again" | 🏳️⚧️A few days ago, I posted about Yomi Hellsmile being removed
, but nobody responded. Do I have to re-propose him?
Hey, FYI, I often times lurk on this thread, but there is something I want to ask.
As Yomi was cut due to there being two different versions of him (despite the fact that both versions have the exact same personalities), should Beryl Gut from Fate/Grand Order be cut as well, as there are technically two different versions of Beryl here as well?
This was the initial proposal post
, and Siegfried did address the fact that there are two different versions of Beryl, but like Yomi, both Beryls share the same personalities.

Can I get some feedback on this
? It sort of died out and since it's the last batch for quotes it'd be good to get this one over with!
