Old Complete Monster cleanup thread
Welcome to the new Complete Monster (CM) cleanup thread! This thread is where we clean up or cut already-existing entries.
If you're looking to add new entries, please see the approval thread
.
IMPORTANT: Before you begin any discussions on this thread, please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List. Here, you'll find explanations of the criteria for the trope as well as our rules/procedures for approving and cutting candidates.
What goes through this thread?
- Cut requests. If you believe a CM has been approved and they do not count, this thread is where you propose their removal. To know how to go about this, please see the FAQ folder on the Administrivia page, where the process is explained in detail.
- If we ever need to consider cutting multiple examples without individually reviewing them (e.g. if we discover widespread plagiarism with a particular troper's CMs), the initial discussion will be on this thread and we'll then escalate to the mod team (as described here
) to get a formal consensus if we decide to recommend a mass cut.
- If an entry was put on the wrong subpage/YMMV page, you may propose where they should be moved to.
- Full rewrites of existing entries, including expansions, trims, and ground-up rewrites. If your rewrite is approved by the thread, feel free to add it to the drafts page so that other users can check grammar and the like before it is included with the rest of the weekly swaps.
- If an entry on a work's YMMV page doesn't match the entry on the media subpage, you can bring it here to discuss which entry works better.
What does not go through this thread?
- New candidate proposals - as stated before, those are done on this thread
.
- Unapproved wicks - if a Troper encounters either of these kinds of wicks, they can be cut with no approval.
- Any CM link on a non-YMMV page - as a YMMV trope, it should not be linked on those pages regardless of any cleanup effort. The only exception is if the wick is being used within the definition of another trope.
- If an CM link on a YMMV page refers to an unapproved character. If it refers to an approved character on any such page, the wick can stay. On the other hand, if the unapproved character being linked to sounds like they might have promise (and you don't feel like checking it out for yourself), feel free to mention it on the approval thread - someone may already know why they don't count, or it could invite a brand new discussion!
- Proposals for images, quotes, and videos of already-approved CMs - quotes and images are proposed on the approval thread
, while videos can be uploaded normally as they are screened for approval by the moderation.
- Crosswicking examples to YMMV pages - if an example has already been approved and added to the main page, you do not require any special permission to add the example to a work's YMMV page (assuming the work has a page already). If a YMMV page doesn't exist yet, then you can make it yourself, but either way, feel free to just add the example without asking.
- Small changes to existing entries - these can simply be done on a Troper's own prerogative with no approval.
- Spelling and grammar fixes.
- Pothole changes.
- Minor rewordings.
- Spoiler tags.
While these changes do not require any kind of approval, it is requested that should you make any of these changes, you do one of the following:
- Make the same changes on the relevant Sandbox page, then add the Sandbox to the list at the bottom of the drafts page. This will add the Sandbox to the weekly swaps and ensure that the edits end up on the relevant locked page. If the Sandbox is already listed, then once you make the edits, your job is already done!
- If you don't know how the Sandboxes work or simply don't have the time to find it, then you can simply post on the thread about the changes you made. Someone else can then make the edit on the relevant Sandbox and add it to the weekly swaps.
- Alternatively, you can simply request that the change be made directly to the locked page on the Locked Pages thread
. Members of this thread keep track of that one, so we will ensure that the changes are made in the Sandbox so that it doesn't get deleted during the next swap.
Again, these changes don't require any approval, but we prefer to keep the entries on the YMMV pages and the locked pages the same in order to avoid any miscommunication or errors between entries, so if you do make the change, we would greatly appreciate it if you could ensure the change is made on the locked page as well.
As a final note, we do not care what other sites have to say regarding whether or not a character counts. We have our own criteria and they have theirs for their CM equivalents; while they are similar, they are not exactly the same and should not be treated as such. Another site removing a character from their equivalent should not be a reason why a cut is proposed here, and if this is the case, it will likely lead to mod intervention.
Other than this, once again, welcome to the cleanup thread, and we look forward to your contributions!

Aight here's the quote batch for Live-Action TV, apologies it took a bit. Real Life and that...
Charles Edward Denton: That's what they all say... I grant that you might not be afraid of, say, physical pain. It's a pity, I enjoy administering physical pain. But I'm reminded of Melville's words himself: "ignorance is the parent of fear". And you derive your courage from knowledge and I'm about to take that away from you. I give you randomness. That is a random letter generator. It's gonna spit out letters every thirty seconds until such time as a certain combination occurs... When the combination BBB occurs, it will set off that timer and two minutes after that, boom! You may not be afraid of death, but not knowing when you might die will drive you out of your mind.
The other quotes listed from the show scream the trope much more than this one but can go either way.
Can go either way on this one since I think Dandy's other one is far superior but with quotes are we allowed potholes within the actual quote?
Baal: It's hard to say. See, most cultures have different names for the netherworld. Um, the Aztecs called it Mictlan. The Greeks; Tartarus. You call it hell. None of it's correct, but your tiny little minds cannot comprehend the reality of the dimension that your friend now finds himself in. [chuckles] Y'know, you almost had me. You really blocked off all my options. Well, most of them, anyway. And it's not ideal being inside a dead body, but it's not an insurmountable challenge. Especially when all I had to do was convince the one man foolish enough to swallow my chicanery that if he went back in time, he could resurrect his dead little friend.
Ash: You flim-flamming S.O.B. You played me like a cheap fiddle!
Baal: Oh, don't be so sore, Ash. There's no way you could've known! See, my transference was one of those blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments.
Lacks oomph tbh, despite the friend being in "hell" it mostly goes over Baal playing Ash.
The Doctor: Don't listen to him, sir.
The Master: [Passionately.] You have here a wonderful weapon! Why with it you could bring good and peace to every world in the galaxy!
The Doctor: On the contrary! He'll bring only death and destruction!
The Master: This planet of yours could be the center of a mighty empire! The greatest that the cosmos has ever known!
The Doctor: Tell me, sir, has this weapon of yours ever brought good to your planet?
Guardian: Once the weapon was built, our race began to decay. The radiation from the weapon's power source poisoned the soil of our planet.
The Doctor: Exactly! The weapon has only brought death - and yet he wants to spread that death throughout the galaxy! Unless you destroy this weapon, sir, he will use it for evil.
The Master: No! You must be mad! Why with this, we could control every galaxy in the cosmos! We could be Gods!
Guardian: You are not fit to be a god. I sense...that if you have control of this weapon, you will bring only unhappiness and destruction to the entire universe.
The Master: Then die!
—>— "UNIT Years" Master, Doctor Who, "Colony in Space"
This is a dialogue extract, not a quote although it probably could be shortened to this:
The Master: No! You must be mad! Why with this, we could control every galaxy in the cosmos! We could be Gods!
Guardian: You are not fit to be a god. I sense...that if you have control of this weapon, you will bring only unhappiness and destruction to the entire universe.
The Master: Then die!
—>— "UNIT Years" Master, Doctor Who, "Colony in Space"
The Doctor: [skeptical] And why would you be telling me this?
Davros: Genocide. In a moment. Such slaughter, not in self-defence, not as a simple act of war. Genocide as a choice. Are you ready, Doctor? So many backs with a single knife. [Davros lifts the Doctor's hand towards the cables.] Are you ready to be a god?
—>— Davros attempting to convince the Twelfth Doctor to commit genocide, Doctor Who, "The Witch's Familiar"
I don't the CM from this tbh.
Lord Varys: Your Grace, Lady Sansa is your aunt, by marriage.
Queen Cersei Lannister: A joke! Joffrey did not mean it.
Joffrey: Yes, I did. I'm going to have it served to Sansa at my wedding feast.
Lord Tyrion Lannister: No. She is no longer yours to torment.
Joffrey: Everyone is mine to torment. You'd do well to remember that, you little monster.
Can go either way, it's that there's a lot of characters in this dialogue exchange about Joffrey being a twat.
Mme. Devereux: Go away! You won't find him here. He's in Paris on business.
Felicia: I know. I didn't come for him.
[Mme. Devereux runs, but gets caught by Felicia, who drowns her]
Felicia: He's an impressive fighter, your Monsieur Devereux. By the time I meet him face to face, I want him to have NOTHING to live for. Non.
[Baby starts crying, Felicia turns towards the sound]
Felicia: I'd almost forgotten you, little one.
—>— Highlander, "Free Fall"
Lacks oomph and without the non dialogue bits, wouldn't make sense.
Shawn: Choose?
Yin: Yes, Shawn. Who do you care about more? Because you can't save them both.
Seems more suitable for Sadistic Choice since it lacks the visceral threat for it to be comfortable crossover with that trope for quotes.
You are gonna slip in and out of shock.
You will know pain and fear.
Fear, Frank.
Your ribs must be cracked.
I'm gonna take all the breath out of your lungs,
out of your lungs,
until you can barley whisper and the last word out of your mouth is gonna be, Please... Please... Please..."
Does it need to be structured like this? It's not an extract like that Talia quote, it's dialogue spoken by an onscreen character.
Ben Gardner: Guess you shouldn't have done that.
Marcus: Why? These were - these were good people! They were just trying to help!
Ben: Help who? Not Purgers.
Marcus: What do you mean?!
Ben: By treating those people out there, you're robbing Purgers of their rightful kills... Your patients, they're supposed to be dead.
Marcus: Look, we're just trying to get through the night.
Ben: No, you're trying to play God. But you're not God. I AM!
—>— The Purge, "7:01am"
I don't get what the quote is saying, did Ben murder the Doctors patients or something?
Card-Carrying Villain without the visceral oomph.

What's wrong D-16? Rise up!At least add the last one to Card-Carrying Villain.
I think potholes MAY be okay if it's an actual thing? Like the work or the creator?
As for DOOM, aren't the 2016 games more of a Stealth Sequel?

I might be biased cause I proposed this quote but I like the 1-800 missing quote - I think it does a good job of showing how this killer also plays some sadistic mind games.
I really like the Joffrey quote - as much as it's a dialogue, it establishes his key monstrous trait of his selfishness and belief that he can do whatever he wants, and he's threatening to serve his Aunt her own brother's decaying head at a wedding feast.
As the person who proposed the Ben quote... yeah, go ahead and cut that, it doesn't work out of context as much as I thought it did.
I have no opinions on the rest so I'll go with whatever you or others decide.
Keep the 1-800, Joffrey, Dandy (i know there another Dandy Quote but I like that one too)
Cut everything else
My sandbox of EPs and other stuffCut Mick.
Keep Joffrey's and Dandy's quotes.
I am the one, I am the one, the godlike terror train, superior artificial brain, feel free to call me BlaineCut Mick, keep the Joffrey and 1800 quotes. I'm fine with the rest of the cuts/changes there.
Just finished up a reread of A Practical Guide to Evil, and I have a few edits. Triumphant and Kurosiv I wanted to cleanup a bit, improving the flow and adding a few extra crimes where I could. The Enchanter, I just wanted to fix a minor error: the original says he had "expertise" in brainwashing magic, when he's actual noted to be kind of middling.
- A Practical Guide to Evil:
- Dread Empress Triumphantnote , the evilest Tyrant to ever emerge from the Wasteland, was a prodigy Diabolist who climbed the Tower and cowed the High Lords into subservience through overwhelming might, with her hordes of devils and demons rechristening the Praesi Legions into the Legions of Terror. Within ten years Triumphant was able to conquer all of Calernia through dint of bloody massacre, with notable crimes including the release of a Demon of Madness on Laure; the slaughter of a fifth of the Gigantes in a battle that claimed hundreds of thousands of lives as collateral damage; the slaying of a Seraphim summoned to stop her, after which she butchered a hundred different tribes for their defiance; and the extermination of two random cities in her fury at being denied the Golden Bloom. Triumphant's reign was no better than her conquest, as she regularly forced children to show obeisance by crucifying their own parents, and her final act upon inevitably being overthrown was to bring down the Tower in an effort to take her killers with her. Having entertained wide-scale torture and murder with an eye towards expanding her rule across all of Creation, Triumphant inspired such fear and terror that countless future generations of Praesi pray for her to never somehow find a way to return from death.
- Mighty Kurosiv was once a jaklavar noble of the Empire Ever Dark before allowing Rumena and Sve Noc to kill the Twilight Sages in hopes of taking over in the wars that would follow. Having learned how to come Back from the Dead and usurp portions of Night from its followers when they are slain, the "Leech" clashed with Rumena seven times over the centuries, intentionally sacrificing thousands of warriors in every encounter to overwhelm Rumena's sigils and gorge itself on stolen Night. Continuing to use these horrid tactics when brought into the War on Keter, Kurosiv takes advantage of Sve Noc's weakness in the wake of Night being ruined to poach two shards of the Gloom, declaring itself the divine Loc Ynan and making an alliance with the Dead King. While telling its followers that they will be left in peace for nine years so long as the drow stay out of the war and allow the dead to scour Calernia of all other life, Kurosiv truthfully intends to ascend to godhood by sacrificing its entire race.
- Book 6: The Wicked Enchanter used his expertise in domination magics to murder, rob, and rape his way across the outskirts of the Brocelian Forest, with the tortures and rape he inflicted on one girl turning her into the Red Axe. At the advice of the Wandering Bard, the Enchanter joined the Truce and Terms for amnesty from his crimes, but not before taking his "court" to terrorize three more villages.

I like the Jeffrey and 188 quotes. Cut all the rest.
Oh by the acw. I removed the spoilers on loch Henry black mirror since recap pages are spoilers off (it's also a bit weird to spoil that if the main recap page reveals all this stuff).
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Yes. Subpages are affected by their Main. As in if a main recap is spoilers off. So to does it character pages or ymmv.
It would be bizzare for the main page to openly talk about the killers identity which it does. And spoil it on the ymmv.....

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."If the main page for recaps is spoilers off it's kinda pointless putting spoilers on the YMMV, the whole point of recap pages is inherently spoilery
"We'll meet again" | 🏳️⚧️I would like to adress, on Monster.Ace Attorney (once again) 3 of the candidates that are on the page have potholed Amoral Attorney on their name, should we have more variety on that or just leave it as such?
Edited by TheWrongOne41 on Jul 27th 2023 at 4:56:50 AM
Due to unfortunate events, i will continue to exist until further notice. (also i'm fluid now)Cut Wet's quotes in the batch, except for Joffrey's. I approve of Emerald's rewrites, and I think we can keep the Amoral Attorney potholes (it's not like there are too many of them, there's just three).
Any comments on the Millarworld
stuff?
![]()
Maybe wait till it comes out.
Googling it seems that Nemesis comic is a reboot from the original per Millar. Because you know the previous one died at the end and this allows Millar to make him this weird anti hero....
To allow him team up with Wesley (cringe) Which wouldn't affect the original.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."To ACW: Yeah, his last action before his capture/torture by Hiei was him asking why his slaves were taking so long.
Watch me destroying my countryAlrighty, the changes I suggested for the pages with Films have been done:
- Monster Die Hard - changed the first link to say "First film"
- Monster Doom - pushed the 2016 tree back a bullet, no longer putting the 2016 game and Eternal as their own tree
- Monster Far Cry - pushed the format back to give the first and sixth games their own sections and changed the first link to the first game to read "First game"
- Monster Ninja Gaiden - pushed the format back to push the first two trees back one bullet
- Monster Ratchet And Clank - changed the first link to say "First game"
- Monster Tolkiens Legendarium - pushed the format back to give The Silmarillion, Peter Jackson's trilogies, and Online their own folders/trees
- Monster Warcraft - Added AC headers for "Gul'dan", "Tabletop Game", and "Others" for the video game
And along the way, I had to create some pages, so ACW you'll probably want to check it for the correct links and stuff:
How to these changes look?
Edited by STARCRUSHER99 on Jul 28th 2023 at 5:21:52 AM

Here's how it was originally: I had made the draft on my troper page so I can get the original.
In the crusade pitting the Doomguy against the against the Legions of Hell, these characters stand out as particular blights. When encountering these foes, the best thing to do is "Rip and tear, until it is done."
