Old Complete Monster cleanup thread
Welcome to the new Complete Monster (CM) cleanup thread! This thread is where we clean up or cut already-existing entries.
If you're looking to add new entries, please see the approval thread
.
IMPORTANT: Before you begin any discussions on this thread, please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List. Here, you'll find explanations of the criteria for the trope as well as our rules/procedures for approving and cutting candidates.
What goes through this thread?
- Cut requests. If you believe a CM has been approved and they do not count, this thread is where you propose their removal. To know how to go about this, please see the FAQ folder on the Administrivia page, where the process is explained in detail.
- If we ever need to consider cutting multiple examples without individually reviewing them (e.g. if we discover widespread plagiarism with a particular troper's CMs), the initial discussion will be on this thread and we'll then escalate to the mod team (as described here
) to get a formal consensus if we decide to recommend a mass cut.
- If an entry was put on the wrong subpage/YMMV page, you may propose where they should be moved to.
- Full rewrites of existing entries, including expansions, trims, and ground-up rewrites. If your rewrite is approved by the thread, feel free to add it to the drafts page so that other users can check grammar and the like before it is included with the rest of the weekly swaps.
- If an entry on a work's YMMV page doesn't match the entry on the media subpage, you can bring it here to discuss which entry works better.
What does not go through this thread?
- New candidate proposals - as stated before, those are done on this thread
.
- Unapproved wicks - if a Troper encounters either of these kinds of wicks, they can be cut with no approval.
- Any CM link on a non-YMMV page - as a YMMV trope, it should not be linked on those pages regardless of any cleanup effort. The only exception is if the wick is being used within the definition of another trope.
- If an CM link on a YMMV page refers to an unapproved character. If it refers to an approved character on any such page, the wick can stay. On the other hand, if the unapproved character being linked to sounds like they might have promise (and you don't feel like checking it out for yourself), feel free to mention it on the approval thread - someone may already know why they don't count, or it could invite a brand new discussion!
- Proposals for images, quotes, and videos of already-approved CMs - quotes and images are proposed on the approval thread
, while videos can be uploaded normally as they are screened for approval by the moderation.
- Crosswicking examples to YMMV pages - if an example has already been approved and added to the main page, you do not require any special permission to add the example to a work's YMMV page (assuming the work has a page already). If a YMMV page doesn't exist yet, then you can make it yourself, but either way, feel free to just add the example without asking.
- Small changes to existing entries - these can simply be done on a Troper's own prerogative with no approval.
- Spelling and grammar fixes.
- Pothole changes.
- Minor rewordings.
- Spoiler tags.
While these changes do not require any kind of approval, it is requested that should you make any of these changes, you do one of the following:
- Make the same changes on the relevant Sandbox page, then add the Sandbox to the list at the bottom of the drafts page. This will add the Sandbox to the weekly swaps and ensure that the edits end up on the relevant locked page. If the Sandbox is already listed, then once you make the edits, your job is already done!
- If you don't know how the Sandboxes work or simply don't have the time to find it, then you can simply post on the thread about the changes you made. Someone else can then make the edit on the relevant Sandbox and add it to the weekly swaps.
- Alternatively, you can simply request that the change be made directly to the locked page on the Locked Pages thread
. Members of this thread keep track of that one, so we will ensure that the changes are made in the Sandbox so that it doesn't get deleted during the next swap.
Again, these changes don't require any approval, but we prefer to keep the entries on the YMMV pages and the locked pages the same in order to avoid any miscommunication or errors between entries, so if you do make the change, we would greatly appreciate it if you could ensure the change is made on the locked page as well.
As a final note, we do not care what other sites have to say regarding whether or not a character counts. We have our own criteria and they have theirs for their CM equivalents; while they are similar, they are not exactly the same and should not be treated as such. Another site removing a character from their equivalent should not be a reason why a cut is proposed here, and if this is the case, it will likely lead to mod intervention.
Other than this, once again, welcome to the cleanup thread, and we look forward to your contributions!

One entry which I think is in need of rewrite.
From Daimos
- The Chief General of Earth, Sakamori/Sakimori Miwa, believes the best way to win a war is by exterminating your enemy to the last man. Ostensibly on the heroes' side, Miwa tries to undermine them at every time, even accusing them of treason and, despite his job being to protect humanity, he doesn't care when civilians are caught in the crossfire, and cares even less for sending soldiers to die uselessly. He also proceeds to execute groups of defeated and helpless Barmians simply out of hatred. In many ways, the genocidal, brutal Miwa is as bad as the power-hungry Olban. Olban's right hand man Geroiya's behaviour is juxtaposed with Miwa's in a few scenes to show they're not so different either in terms of cruelty.
Acording to Moral Event Horizon entry he tries to detonate a bomb which could kill up to 700 000 people so he is good to stay. That said haven’t watched the show and so don’t if there are any other crimes worth mentioning.
Wrong thread, there's a 2 week waiting period and the show is already reserved
"We'll meet again" | 🏳️⚧️Here's something I'll have to fact-check for a Black Clover CM.
- "Elf Reincarnation Arc": Zagred, the Word Devil, long ago swayed the humans of the Clover Kingdom into attacking the elves, exterminating the entire race, before possessing their leader Licht to destroy the human world. Defeated, Zagred reincarnated the elves with a dark spell, letting one elf named Patry lead the terrorist Eye of the Midnight Sun to do as much damage as possible and revive the others to destroy humanity. Revealing himself, Zagred gloats about all he has done to the world before trying to manifest fully, then tortures Patry, breaking him spiritually to transform him into a mindless dark elf and gleefully has him attempt to wipe out the heroes. After stealing Patry's Four-Leaf Clover Grimoire and transforming it into a Five-Leaf Clover Grimoire to obtain more power, Zagred proceeds to open a doorway to pure darkness, seeking to consume the human and elven races alike."
Make no mistake, this guy is fucking nasty. Kills more than 40 on-panel, starts a race war For the Evulz, and then there's the mind games. Easy keeper.
The problem is this paragraph:
According to Word of God, he didn't actually bait the humans into killing the Elves. What he did was to draw the humans into siphoning the Elves' mana (so they'll be powerless for what happens next), then killed all of them personally with his own magic that looked like the prince's/late Wizard King's (he can copy other's Magic). He was trying to frame the prince for the massacre while he slaughtered all of them.
He also didn't manage to possess Licht, there was an attempt however, and the Demon Licht turned into is actually the Elf Leader trying to avoid the possession going through.
Here's a more accurate version I guess:

Any more comments on General Brigan
?
Cut Brigan.
The Brainiac entry for Krypton was never updated for season 2, so here's a rewrite.
- Krypton: Brainiac, known as the Collector of Worlds, is a cyborg who wiped out his entire race and travels through the galaxy to abduct cities, shrinking them for his collection and often causing the destruction of their planets. While he publicly claims to bring immortality for the people he takes, in actuality they are put into a paralyzed stasis while remaining conscious forever. Having already inflicted this fate on countless cities and setting sights on Kandor from planet Krypton, Brainiac sends a sentry that possesses and kills an innocent woman before infecting the dictator of Kandor, whom Brainiac remotely controls. After defeating a coup, he brainwashes the rebels into his loyal guards and forces chief magistrate Daron-Vex to execute his co-conspirators, including Daron's own daughter, Nyssa. To replenish his forces, Brainiac regularly feeds on the birth facility, draining embryos as batteries. He then slaughters any opposition with his psychic powers and turns a little girl into a living bomb he sends upon her friend, Seg-El. Upon being defeated and cast away into the Phantom Zone, Brainiac drags Seg with him and possesses him to return back to Krypton, kidnapping Seg's son and taking him to Earth so he can rule over the planet as a god.
So, I wanted to bring up something about The Devourer. No, this isn't a cut proposal, but rather something I want to know if it is worth pointing out.
Basically, the game allows you to "capture" enemies, and after you do, you get to summon them in battle. It is actually possible to capture The Devourer this way. However, the description for what it does is "deletes current simulation" and summoning it will have it appear and declares that "this program terminates now" before killing everything on the battlefield, including the players, before the game crashes. Now, as a reminder, the "simulation" refers to the game's universe, as revealed in the final boss battle with the thing. I wanted to know if this was worth pointing out in the writeup, because on one hand, it is....unique for a CM to betray the player and delete the universe, but on the other hand, your save file still exists, so that may limit how bad it is. And above all, I don't know if "gameplay" crimes are factored in for the character's heinousness.
"It was the best of times, it was the BLURST of times?"Cut Brigan.
Anyone still has any thoughts about my cut proposal for RAT
.
I can create a WIP for FNAF's fanworks and put it into the draft page? We have some subpages with both fangames and fanfics.
Us tropers stick together. While I'm updating the Magic the Gathering sandbox with the two new entries, I wanted to do a rewrite on Ob Nixilis's entry to make it more concise. Old on top, new on bottom.
- Ob Nixilis is a human Planeswalker who, in his mortal life, was a cruel, despotic tyrant, bent on conquering his home plane. Eventually defeated by his enemies, Ob Nixilis sacrificed his last loyal soldiers to summon demons who fulfilled his heart's greatest desire: the death of all life on his plane. Despondent over having no one left to rule, Ob Nixilis's Spark ignited, and he began wandering the Multiverse and scouring the life from every plane he came across. After turning into a demon from using the Chain Veil, Ob Nixilis fled to Zendikar to use its mana to remove the curse, but lost his Spark instead. Ob Nixilis was willing to destroy Zendikar itself to regain his power and tried to devour Zendikar's soul, and, failing that, finally regained his Spark by absorbing the hedron network keeping the Eldrazi titan Ulamog imprisoned. As a final act of spite toward the world he hated, Ob Nixilis awakened the titan Kozilek to ensure Zendikar's doom. Later, Ob Nixilis would on go to New Capenna, desiring to conquer and ultimately destroy the city. To these ends he siphoned disloyal members of the local criminal families with promises of Halo, planting moles that eventually led to the open massacre at the Crescendo. Killing the Maestros leader Xander and possibly also the Brokers leader Falco Spara, Ob Nixilis sought to use Giada as either his source of Halo or kill her out of spite. Driven by his lust for power and conquest, Ob Nixilis was willing to raze the Multiverse to regain the humanity he never had.
- Ob Nixilis is a Planeswalker who was a cruel, despotic tyrant bent on conquering his home plane. Defeated by his enemies, he summoned demons that fulfilled his heart's desire to end all life on his plane. The experience ignited his spark and he began scouring the life from every plane he wandered to. After being cursed into a demon, he lost his spark on Zendikar trying to remove it. Ob Nixilis tried to devour Zendikar's soul to reignite his spark and succeeded by absorbing Eldrazi titan Ulamog's prison. As a final act of spite, he awakened the titan Kozilek to ensure Zendikar's doom. He would later travel to New Capenna to dominate the plane and take control of its Halo supply. Assembling his own crime family, Nixilis would engineer the massacre of the other families and attempt to absorb the survivors to consolidate his power and satisfy his love of conquest.

Think you're tough because you made it through Lord of the Rings? Real men survive The Silmarillion.I wanna ask one question about heinous standards again.
Just how high is JoJo's Bizarre Adventure's heinous standard? 12 CMs in both continuities and 3 in other media out of I think around 70+ villains with multiple bigshots that don't cut it? It looks awful enough for me, but I never saw that brought up.
x2 Is the CM called Bonnie? I'm sure that one's not getting cut.
Edited by Mr-ex777 on Apr 20th 2023 at 2:23:28 AM
She received a DLC where it expands a bit on her character. For the longest time, it was believed her relationship with Yellow Bear was one of faux convenience. Fresh Ingredients has some notes from Bonnie herself where she states YB was the closest thing she had to family when her actual family disappeared one day. There are no asides or indications that she is being deceptive.
For all intents and purposes, it looks like she genuinely cares for him.

I really need to master these forums. Anyway, these are the votes at the suggestion of Snoketrope.
Votes on RAT (taking into account the current and previous discussion and votes):
- Cut: Dood Slayer 136, Sum Dum Nerd, ACW, Echidna, Libraryseraph, Emperor Geode, G-Editor, Bullman, A Sghhrv6ub, Purgatoryisof 2, SkyCat32
- Keep: Snoketrope, Demon Duck Of Doom,
11-2 in favor of cut.
Additional Vote below, these votes also include the ones from the previous discussion now.

Us tropers stick together. We also need to account for original votes from The effortpost as well.
Unfortunately, the person who effortposted RAT apparently left the site.
Upon consideration, next to the (preumably canonical) villain William Afton, RAT seems kind of lacklustre of a candidate in my opinion. Cut away.

I mean, Odin is the one who wants the Cauldron which can bring about Armageddon. Don't think he wants to bring about it but he certainly wants to take control of it and the rest of the kingdoms. He's the one who keeps the war for the cauldron.
Brigan meanwhile does kill a bunch of her valkaries for talking to him wrong, but Odin engages in as many fights as him, so he doesn't let him take most of his fights. His character profile he's more of a Starscream than anything.
Due to unfortunate events, i will continue to exist until further notice. (also i'm fluid now)
