Old Complete Monster cleanup thread
Welcome to the new Complete Monster (CM) cleanup thread! This thread is where we clean up or cut already-existing entries.
If you're looking to add new entries, please see the approval thread
.
IMPORTANT: Before you begin any discussions on this thread, please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List. Here, you'll find explanations of the criteria for the trope as well as our rules/procedures for approving and cutting candidates.
What goes through this thread?
- Cut requests. If you believe a CM has been approved and they do not count, this thread is where you propose their removal. To know how to go about this, please see the FAQ folder on the Administrivia page, where the process is explained in detail.
- If we ever need to consider cutting multiple examples without individually reviewing them (e.g. if we discover widespread plagiarism with a particular troper's CMs), the initial discussion will be on this thread and we'll then escalate to the mod team (as described here
) to get a formal consensus if we decide to recommend a mass cut.
- If an entry was put on the wrong subpage/YMMV page, you may propose where they should be moved to.
- Full rewrites of existing entries, including expansions, trims, and ground-up rewrites. If your rewrite is approved by the thread, feel free to add it to the drafts page so that other users can check grammar and the like before it is included with the rest of the weekly swaps.
- If an entry on a work's YMMV page doesn't match the entry on the media subpage, you can bring it here to discuss which entry works better.
What does not go through this thread?
- New candidate proposals - as stated before, those are done on this thread
.
- Unapproved wicks - if a Troper encounters either of these kinds of wicks, they can be cut with no approval.
- Any CM link on a non-YMMV page - as a YMMV trope, it should not be linked on those pages regardless of any cleanup effort. The only exception is if the wick is being used within the definition of another trope.
- If an CM link on a YMMV page refers to an unapproved character. If it refers to an approved character on any such page, the wick can stay. On the other hand, if the unapproved character being linked to sounds like they might have promise (and you don't feel like checking it out for yourself), feel free to mention it on the approval thread - someone may already know why they don't count, or it could invite a brand new discussion!
- Proposals for images, quotes, and videos of already-approved CMs - quotes and images are proposed on the approval thread
, while videos can be uploaded normally as they are screened for approval by the moderation.
- Crosswicking examples to YMMV pages - if an example has already been approved and added to the main page, you do not require any special permission to add the example to a work's YMMV page (assuming the work has a page already). If a YMMV page doesn't exist yet, then you can make it yourself, but either way, feel free to just add the example without asking.
- Small changes to existing entries - these can simply be done on a Troper's own prerogative with no approval.
- Spelling and grammar fixes.
- Pothole changes.
- Minor rewordings.
- Spoiler tags.
While these changes do not require any kind of approval, it is requested that should you make any of these changes, you do one of the following:
- Make the same changes on the relevant Sandbox page, then add the Sandbox to the list at the bottom of the drafts page. This will add the Sandbox to the weekly swaps and ensure that the edits end up on the relevant locked page. If the Sandbox is already listed, then once you make the edits, your job is already done!
- If you don't know how the Sandboxes work or simply don't have the time to find it, then you can simply post on the thread about the changes you made. Someone else can then make the edit on the relevant Sandbox and add it to the weekly swaps.
- Alternatively, you can simply request that the change be made directly to the locked page on the Locked Pages thread
. Members of this thread keep track of that one, so we will ensure that the changes are made in the Sandbox so that it doesn't get deleted during the next swap.
Again, these changes don't require any approval, but we prefer to keep the entries on the YMMV pages and the locked pages the same in order to avoid any miscommunication or errors between entries, so if you do make the change, we would greatly appreciate it if you could ensure the change is made on the locked page as well.
As a final note, we do not care what other sites have to say regarding whether or not a character counts. We have our own criteria and they have theirs for their CM equivalents; while they are similar, they are not exactly the same and should not be treated as such. Another site removing a character from their equivalent should not be a reason why a cut is proposed here, and if this is the case, it will likely lead to mod intervention.
Other than this, once again, welcome to the cleanup thread, and we look forward to your contributions!

Apologies for the confusion. I would argue without the rape they still hit the standard in murder just based on the original movie and script alone, but probably not worth it since the uniqueness is still gone. Pertaining to keepers, Stu also commits and is party to multiple murders, so it's like why the alternate version of Dr. Gregory Butler can count, but the original Lori Spengler can't: one flails a little too much compared to the other.
Based on everything 43 said,
to keeping Derek and Hallie.

I'm ambivalent myself, but yeah, Stu even without the rape edges them out just enough. Same as why Mickey can't count compared to him and why Richie and Amber—if they don't actually care about each other—can't count against him either. With him alone, Derek and Hallie have a little too much competition to compete with.
Oh they're working for Nancy Loomis? I'd forgotten that.

Cut Derek and Hallie.
Abstain on Basco.
I am the one, I am the one, the godlike terror train, superior artificial brain, feel free to call me BlaineYeah, for the most part we treat each season of Sentai as it's own thing. The issue with Basco and Gokaiger specifically is that every single season is explicitly canon to Gokaiger despite the contradictions - you're just not supposed to think too hard about the continuity issues for that particular season so you can enjoy the fact it's a massive inter-franchise crossover. Again, continuity in this franchise is an absolute mess - another season confirms that there's a multiverse where each season has its own universe - but Gokaiger dedicates entire episodes to meeting characters from previous seasons, who mention events from their seasons.
I think Cut on the Scream duo.
Just a question but is Jill still good to stay? She's a vicious freak but Fame Through Infamy isn't just limited to her. I'm not pushing for a cut, just asking since it's been a bit since I saw her film.

What's wrong D-16? Rise up!I’d say she keeps. Her personal bodycount is at seven, and being the mastermind of the killing spree puts Charlie’s kills and attempted kills on her - a total of ten murders. Like Roman, she also has matricide to her name - sort of fitting as they’re from the same side of the family.
The way I see it, Jill is still a pretty nasty customer for this series.

"It's like...a cliff, and if I do it, I'm just gonna...fall." "I think we're already falling."Jill just tips the scale but I think she makes it in, IIRC her attempted bodycount for the spree is around 13, she's got the most control over her side Ghostface in Charlie and painfully killing her loving mother is a nasty flourish.
Side note but with her as my second fav Ghostface I love that she makes it in because "I don't want to have to go to school or get a job to be famous and rich" is an almost endearingly petty motive.

Oh definite
to keeping Jill. Like Roman, she lacks the other redeeming qualities of the other masterminds and her crimes both personal and overall standout in horridness. And yeah, even though it's one spree, murdering both her mother and partner successfully make her stand out all the more.
Oh yeah. Beyond petty.

As for the other keepers, I've only got one question for one of them.
On Piper's killer page it lists this.
- Avenging the Villain: One of the reasons Piper desires to kill people; to avenge her father, Brandon James.
There's no Even Evil Has Loved Ones listed but its also listed that her being Brandon's daughter isn't known to the public and she's generally liked so it's not like she's shunted for it? How does "avenging her father play out"? For the Evulz for her making Emma suffer but is that her general motive?
Edited by WetFlannels on Mar 25th 2023 at 9:26:46 AM
What's wrong D-16? Rise up!Nah, her general motive is making Emma suffer. Her father having previously been a killer just gives her the means to carry it out. She's just a petty bitch who happens to be related to a Serial Killer.
Basically. It's like how Roman also tries to justify himself by pointing out his tragic past but then the moment it actually becomes relevant he just turns out to be a sadistic prick. Her dad is a part of the motive, but not in any kind of sympathetic way or a way that implies she genuinely cares about him.
It’s not even that; it’s all but spelled out that Piper's father is innocent of the murders he was accused off (unfortunately, the show was cut short following season two), and that this was something that Piper herself believed. Though it's not like she’s trying to clear her name or anything, she’s just recreating the killing spree her father was accused of to torment her mother and half sister.
It’s a pretty skewed and laughable way of honouring his memory.
"It's like...a cliff, and if I do it, I'm just gonna...fall." "I think we're already falling."![]()
Fair enough the others are good to stay IMO
- Stu's been debated enough and the rape/torture edged him over
- Roman's behind the original triligy and having a decent count himself
- Kieran seems exceptionally brutal with nasty deaths rather than just stabbings
- Beth's responsible for Jamal and her herself has a batch of Cruel And Unusal Death
- Script!Stu doesn't have the standard to worry about since it was for the first film
- Script!Roman Similar crimes but has an incestuous love for Sidney
Wait she thought her father was innocent?
Edited by WetFlannels on Mar 25th 2023 at 9:42:13 AM
What's wrong D-16? Rise up!Yeah, the show had an overarching mystery plot regarding the murders supposedly committed by Brandon James, which is initially sold as a typical slasher origin story, and an In-Universe Urban Legend.
Though as seasons one and two pass, we learn that there’s more to the story than we're lead on, and it’s spelled out to us that Brandon is innocent of the murders. According to Word of God, had there been a third season, it would have been revealed he was entirely innocent.
In season one, Piper states her belief that her father didn’t commit the murders, but it’s not like she’s out to avenge his (supposed) death or anything; nor is she trying to clear his name or expose the truth - she just wants revenge on her mother for putting her up for adoption and punish her sister for living the life she wanted.
Piper was literally the Roman Bridger of her time.

"It's like...a cliff, and if I do it, I'm just gonna...fall." "I think we're already falling."

Oh they do. Their is no way any of them could be canon to each other. Like if we add every season together. The dinosaurs went extincet due to five seperate villains, aliens live freely among humans according to dekaranger but apparently thats not mentioned anywhere else, the world in zyhouger combined with the animal world, etc. The issue is each season just does its own thing with no regard for trying to link them.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."
