Old Complete Monster cleanup thread
Welcome to the new Complete Monster (CM) cleanup thread! This thread is where we clean up or cut already-existing entries.
If you're looking to add new entries, please see the approval thread.
IMPORTANT: Before you begin any discussions on this thread, please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List. Here, you'll find explanations of the criteria for the trope as well as our rules/procedures for approving and cutting candidates.
What goes through this thread?
- Cut requests. If you believe a CM has been approved and they do not count, this thread is where you propose their removal. To know how to go about this, please see the FAQ folder on the Administrivia page, where the process is explained in detail.
- If we ever need to consider cutting multiple examples without individually reviewing them (e.g. if we discover widespread plagiarism with a particular troper's CMs), the initial discussion will be on this thread and we'll then escalate to the mod team (as described here) to get a formal consensus if we decide to recommend a mass cut.
- If an entry was put on the wrong subpage/YMMV page, you may propose where they should be moved to.
- Full rewrites of existing entries, including expansions, trims, and ground-up rewrites. If your rewrite is approved by the thread, feel free to add it to the drafts page so that other users can check grammar and the like before it is included with the rest of the weekly swaps.
- If an entry on a work's YMMV page doesn't match the entry on the media subpage, you can bring it here to discuss which entry works better.
What does not go through this thread?
- New candidate proposals - as stated before, those are done on this thread.
- Unapproved wicks - if a Troper encounters either of these kinds of wicks, they can be cut with no approval.
- Any CM link on a non-YMMV page - as a YMMV trope, it should not be linked on those pages regardless of any cleanup effort. The only exception is if the wick is being used within the definition of another trope.
- If an CM link on a YMMV page refers to an unapproved character. If it refers to an approved character on any such page, the wick can stay. On the other hand, if the unapproved character being linked to sounds like they might have promise (and you don't feel like checking it out for yourself), feel free to mention it on the approval thread - someone may already know why they don't count, or it could invite a brand new discussion!
- Proposals for images, quotes, and videos of already-approved CMs - quotes and images are proposed on the approval thread, while videos can be uploaded normally as they are screened for approval by the moderation.
- Crosswicking examples to YMMV pages - if an example has already been approved and added to the main page, you do not require any special permission to add the example to a work's YMMV page (assuming the work has a page already). If a YMMV page doesn't exist yet, then you can make it yourself, but either way, feel free to just add the example without asking.
- Small changes to existing entries - these can simply be done on a Troper's own prerogative with no approval.
- Spelling and grammar fixes.
- Pothole changes.
- Minor rewordings.
- Spoiler tags.
While these changes do not require any kind of approval, it is requested that should you make any of these changes, you do one of the following:
- Make the same changes on the relevant Sandbox page, then add the Sandbox to the list at the bottom of the drafts page. This will add the Sandbox to the weekly swaps and ensure that the edits end up on the relevant locked page. If the Sandbox is already listed, then once you make the edits, your job is already done!
- If you don't know how the Sandboxes work or simply don't have the time to find it, then you can simply post on the thread about the changes you made. Someone else can then make the edit on the relevant Sandbox and add it to the weekly swaps.
- Alternatively, you can simply request that the change be made directly to the locked page on the Locked Pages thread. Members of this thread keep track of that one, so we will ensure that the changes are made in the Sandbox so that it doesn't get deleted during the next swap.
Again, these changes don't require any approval, but we prefer to keep the entries on the YMMV pages and the locked pages the same in order to avoid any miscommunication or errors between entries, so if you do make the change, we would greatly appreciate it if you could ensure the change is made on the locked page as well.
As a final note, we do not care what other sites have to say regarding whether or not a character counts. We have our own criteria and they have theirs for their CM equivalents; while they are similar, they are not exactly the same and should not be treated as such. Another site removing a character from their equivalent should not be a reason why a cut is proposed here, and if this is the case, it will likely lead to mod intervention.

So someone removed on of the entries I got approved for Unclassified Encounter siting the No Real Life Examples, Please! rule, even though I was proposing a fictionalized version of him not the real man.
Could I possibly get consensus to add it back?

If you've read closely, you'd see that I'm well aware that The Owl House isn't over yet. I too am waiting for the finale to see whether or not Belos can actually count as a Complete Monster. In my eyes, Belos is pretty much the Disney Animated series equivalent of Judge Claude Frollo from The Hunchback of Notre Dame. A Moral Sociopath who speaks of justice but is utterly blind & deaf to any notion of corruption within his own heart, cruel to a species that he believes to be fundamentally evil witches when it's obvious to viewers that they're NOT (in this case, it's not Gypsies but REAL Witches, who are shown to be just as morally complex as humans), & running from guilt. Like you said though. 99% certainty at this point. Sorry for potential spoilers.

So about Adam Smasher I kinda forgot to mark the minor edit, here it is:
- Cyberpunk: Adam Smasher was a thuggish murderer and rapist who willingly chose to throw away his humanity for a chance at power. A mighty cyborg, Adam is a dark legend who is known for the massive amount of people he has murdered. Serving corporations for the carnage it affords him, Adam Smasher savors the deaths of as many innocent bystanders as possible. Having been the one to kill Johnny Silverhand, Adam Smasher returns to resolve the Cyberskeleton crisis through brutally killing Rebecca and finishes off David Martinez when he refuses to join Arasaka, and later participates in the Arasaka Corporation wars to kill as many as possible.

Alright, after thinking for a bit, I think I have a cut of my own. A version of M. Bison whom I proposed a long time ago.
- Street Fighter (Malibu Comics): M. Bison employs Sagat and Balrog to assassinate Ryu's friends, including Ken, to weaken Ryu and lure him in. Bison has Ken assaulted, and later stabbed to death, delivering a chunk of his scalped hair to Ryu afterwards. While recruiting Vega, Bison snaps the neck of a monk and sends an assassin to poison Sheng Long, Ryu's mentor, in order for him not to intervene with his plans. Bison also augments Sagat's powers to a near-deadly rate, allowing him to brutally beat and seemingly kill some of his men in training, to prepare him for another fight with the Street Fighters.
After handling the Genesis Universe characters, I was a bit concerned with M. Bison counting and so I decided to reread the comic. Honestly I think he should be cut, not only when The Ferret (a hero from the Genesis Universe) appears in this comic but also the story explicitly stated this takes place after the events of the first 4 issues which itself takes place during The Protectors series is going on. This isn't a mere cameo, it's a blatant canon crossover (albeit a guest appearance but still). So not only is it canon in this comic, that means Bison probably has too much competition.
Mr. Monday is a sadistic mass murdering terrorist and Hero Killer with Cold-Blooded Torture in his name and aims to destroy a whole city. Fellow Diabolical Mastermind The Great Question is the brains behind Monday's atrocities and enables him along with Electric Torture and eventually ends up killing billions just for a grab at godhood. It doesn't help that Bison is a fellow Diabolical Mastermind with superpowers of his own and a criminal organization, his deeds are tamed compared to these guys.
Hell, we have the one villain who doesn't keep, an imposter of Miss Fury who murders dozens of people (innocent or otherwise) along with attempt child murder and she's just a run in a mill thug than anything. Then we have the slaver Sluggo who runs a town where he abuses and kills slaves including hosting death matches for sadistic pleasure. We also have this group of superpowered mercenaries called Killcorp who killed quite a few mutants just to keep them in Slugtown no matter what (none of them count, as they pull a Heel–Face Turn or with some having genuine redeeming qualities).
The closest Bison has to stand out is being a Bad Boss, murdering Ken, snapping a monk's neck a Kick the Dog moment, poisoning a guy, and planning to kill more of Ryu's friend just to break him with only a bodycount of 5 or less.
Honestly I kinda leaning a cut here, what do you think?

Pretty sure they're not getting pages since they're not a shared universe, Disney only has a page because A: it's so huge splicing it would be a nightmare and B: Disney does have several connected franchises like the Disney princess brand

Cut Bison. Is Tira not counting simply a HS thing? She has no redeeming qualities even in 6, is the biggest enforcer of Soul Edge's will and she turns Sophitia into a Knight Templar Parent to protect her kids as well as being responsible for Sophitia's son turning into a Villain Protagonist and her daughter, a host of Soul Edge.

- Complete Monster: Dr. Judah, from season 3, is a monstrous immortal elite who helps keep hospital and medical care prices high to prey on the poor. Before the series, Judah helped convince Ante Nora/Scarlet to release Scarlet Rot into the world, leading to 10 percent of the world's population having their organs liquefy and die as a result. Judah also broke and abused Ante and is heavily implied to have repeatedly raped her. Judah later spitefully destroys the cure for Scarlet Rot in order to create a market for his more long-term treatments so they'll be more profitable. In the present, Judah captures Scarlet's immortal friend and tortures him repeatedly by cutting his body into pieces for sheer scientific fun to see how much pain would take while being alive the entire time. As a final act of spite, Judah burns down the apartment of Scarlet's deceased mother with all their memories, boasting how he now completely owns Scarlet.
