If you guys want a crowner, you'll need to compile everything that's been discussed into potential crowner items.
Macron's notesWe'd definitely need a crowner.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.Okay so crowner options are as follows I believe:
- Split into Eastern RPG and Western RPG by country of origin (the current system)
- Split into Eastern RPG and Western RPG by gameplay elements (For example, anime designs and Turn-Based Combat vs Wide-Open Sandbox Action RPG)
- Split into Action RPG and Turn-Based RPG subgeneres
- Sort Role-Playing Games into a single folder and split alphabetically by title (i.e "Role-Playing Games A-G" and "Role-Playing Games H-Z") Note:This split would only be done if the one RPG folder on the trope page gets too large for one folder. Like how tropes are split on work pages once the page gets a lot of examples.
Thanks. Crowner hooked.
Macron's notesCrowner has a typo: "subgeneres"
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool. Not certain how the most complicated and most likely to cause problems option is the highest voted atm. Would like to hear the supporters since we've gone over it and it seemed to be a difficult method to firmly categorize.
CSP Cleanup Thread | All that I ask for ... is diamonds and dance floorsGiven it had a decent number of people were supporting the idea earlier in the thread, plus the main issue is the current "Eastern vs. Western" division being completely untenable due to cultural crossover (and keeping such is an option on the crowner), I'd say maybe dial it back a bit.
Besides, if the crowner ends in a tie or close to one, we could merge the two top options: single RPG folder by default, split into Action RPG and Turn-Based RPG folders if the unified RPG folder gets too big.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)For the record: I upvoted everything except gameplay elements, which I downvoted.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.Calling crowner in favor of:
- Split into Action RPG and Turn-Based RPG subgenres
I didn't call for both of the options in green because the crowner was created with the intention that all of the items would be mutually exclusive (and I assume that was how people voted).
Macron's notesBumping to move this along.
I assume that any splitting work will be primarily focused on single-player game categories - that is, if a page has already split off MMORPGs into a separate folder or subpage, we leave those examples alone. Am I correct in this?
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)Now that we're removing Eastern and Western RPG as folders, what are we doing with the pages like Eastern RPG?
I assume keeping since they're still valid, just hard to sort works in?
Should we change Role-Playing Games to add some note that the directional categorizations are unlike the others in the list, Sandbox, Souls-like RPG, etc, in that they're not valid folders?

Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576Yeah, we're just discussing single player and limited multiplayer games here. MMOs are generally grouped separately already.
Where do Real-Time with Pause games fit? Also, what do we do with franchises that have some turn-based entries, and some action ones, like Fallout?
EDIT: ignore

We could have two Fallout sections, as it's easier to categorize it that way. It's not like a lot of these are "normal" and "spin-off" in those cases, so that's not some easy to figure out where to put them.
It might seem like a silly split, but isn't the point more to do it by game? Sometimes games and any general media work need to get split up to where the appropriate examples are. Sure, it's not being split up by media, but it's far harder to categorize them by putting them in one and saying "these are exceptions".
If some of the games are far more murky what they fall under, that's a different issue, though. It really depends what came first, and how the games work. Is it mainly an Action RPG with light turn-based stuff? Or is it mainly turn-based with light action instead? Etc.
I'd say regarding a situation where different entries in the same series take a different gameplay approach like Fallout, it would only be an issue if those entries are forced to share a single page for the game series, instead of each game having its own page.
This obviously isn't the case with Fallout, and in fact the only case of this I'm aware of is Might and Magic (one page for all of the different RPG titles, some of which are pure turn-based, others not). And we could always split that page if we needed to.

Crown Description:
I'm not sure because this is a big change, but it does appear the thread has reached a consensus for alphabetization. I'll holler for mod input (and also in case we need a crowner, they can create one).
