And those don’t even count the unapproved examples we zap all the time
Not in for a TRS queue here. I don't think that's a good thought. Limit the number of reservations, limit when they can be reserved and that I think is a good idea that'll cut down issues.
And time limits, yes. I'm proposing one week after reservation time save unless it's a big work, like Elden Ring that demands WAY more brainpower.
The threads have cut plenty of bad examples, the threads have shot down plenty of examples that don't fit the criteria, users are generally open when a "reserved" work doesn't have anyone who fits the criteria...these accusations of "wonking" and "looking for patterns" to force characters into a trope on a hobby thread are not helping the conversation.

No! That is NOT Solid Snake! Stop impersonating him!My idea on that, formalize it:
- Time limits on resverations. When a work is released, if it's a movie, a book, a TV episode, podcast, etc? You've got a week to get to it, or it's gone. Maybe some leeway with something like a game.
- A work can only be reserved two weeks in advance.
- We can discuss more on how many reservations can be taken, but also more of an open process to works with multiple examples as not to allow just one individual to do them all.
I agree with laserviking42- the reservations give the air of 'I love (or expect to love) this work, so I will give it a CM/MB entry". It's also hard to believe the thread will be unbiased when its regulars reserving works written by other regulars.
I'm sorry, but I don't see this as remotely accurate. It's merely an intent to say to the thread if it has one or not.
Saying "I reserve the new Marvel film" doesn't say you think it'll have a CM, just that you want to handle discussion in case it does. Nothing more, nothing less.

This isn't true. Plenty of times people will say the work had nothing. Or that we're instead cutting an existing example.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."TVT is, by definition, a hobby site meant for tropes about fiction (in general). Threads on that site would also be a hobby. No one is being forced to participate in something meant for fun, ergo..."hobby" applies.
Cool with Lighty's reservation idea.

I mean, for a solution to the threads, maybe it's a good idea to just stop proposing new CM and MB for X amount of time and get the thread back to its original purpose, cleaning up existing entries.
I think reservations should be gone, replace it with TRS queue, and allow other tropers to help with the EP like other tropers can help with wick checks. This would remove some of the possessiveness and also get rid of the "you can't do that character because Troper Y already claimed them".
