A thread offering assistance and support for tropers covering Marvel's many, many stories and characters.
This includes the shared Marvel Universe, but not the cultural Disney juggernaut known as the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). One of our aims is to disentangle tropes and characters from the MCU adaptations from pages about their source material.
This scope does cover Marvel comic, manga and webcomic stories, characters and tropes that are unconnected to that shared Marvel Universe - e.g. their licensed Star Wars, Alien and Predator stories.
As of September 2021, there were about 27,000 Marvel comics published across 4,900 or so different series. They started publishing in the 1940s as Timely Comics, then became Atlas Comics and - eventually - Marvel. As a consequence, Marvel have a lot of Comic Book and Characters pages on the site (and have recently started publishing Webcomics as well).
The sheer scale of this means that there's so much material (with dozens of new comics added each week) that no one troper is likely to own or read all of it - especially as there are big gaps in what's available digitally or reprinted (and licensed characters and legal issues mean that certain stories may never be reprinted at all).
And that can make troping their shared universe pretty tricky - even Marvel's own creative teams have been known to lose track now and then.
We've got tropers busily revising existing pages, while others add new information weekly as new comics are published. This thread's here to help with any queries that generates, to focus work on particular pages that could use improvement, and to help ensure that we tackle works page names and other aspects in a consistent way that makes sense to readers navigating between different Marvel-related pages (as well as following best practice for the wiki as a whole).
Feel free to post here to draw attention to relevant posts or threads elsewhere - e.g. if examples, images, captions and quotes, or spoiler policies for these pages are under discussion.
There are existing threads and standard guidelines for those topics (e.g. Image Pickin' has its own, very structured, process), and this shouldn't duplicate any of that - but tropers reading this thread may wish to vote or comment once they know about those discussions.
- If there's a consistent creative team, they should be named in the introduction. Ideally, include inkers and colorists as well as other artists.
- The page image doesn't always have to be the first issue cover.
- Pages for arcs, runs and events should include the relevant titles and issue numbers.
- Pages should include start and end dates in the introduction
- Links regarding particular characters (e.g. Wolverine) should go to their Characters page, not their ComicBook page.
- As a rule, characters in Marvel Universe continuity only get one Character page profile, regardless of how many different series they appear in. However:
- Alternate Universe and Bad Future variants may justify their own profile, and sometimes the same can be said for Split Personality scenarios.
- It may be appropriate to add a character to a relevant Character page with an intro and a link to their full profile on another page (e.g. many villains have been major characters in several different series)
- Creation of any new Character Specific Pages, and proposals to merge any of them back into other pages, should go via the Character Specific Pages cleanup thread, but it's worth posting here as well.
- If you're splitting, merging or moving characters between different Character pages, it's worth checking with the Character Page Cleanup thread as well as posting here.

I think The Spectacular Spider Man is ready to launch. Any last bits of feedback before I move it over to The Spectacular Spider-Man?
Edit: Launched. Will be working on Spider Man 1990 next.

I have created a Character Page for Children of the Vault. There wasn’t much on it before except for a small folder in X-Men: Villainous Organizations that just describes the group in general and some characters. I figured since we now have a book staring the Children I could expand on that and put the characters on that page, with characters getting their own folder.

I took a look and updated the formatting. So that should help a bit.
It's gonna be fun on the bun! Before I take this to Image Pickin' (currently full) - today's X-Men webcomic offers a decent pic of Jim Jaspers for the Captain Britain character page.
Much as I like the Alan Davis godlike version, it's not how he usually appears. So possibly replace this:
With this
?
I’m down for the new image. Is there anywhere else the old image can be used? Because it looks really cool.
It's gonna be fun on the bun!How many examples must a sandbox page have before it can be launched? Spider Man 1990 may be getting close.

Mrph1 said 20, but I personally think it looks good.
Also for some reason, I decided to do some crosswicking for Daken and got the character over 40K. I launched a sandbox here if anyone wants to take a look.
It's gonna be fun on the bun!Yeah, it's not a hard rule. 20 was talked about on the page splitting/merging thread, but there's been no vote or decision to confirm it.
8 was mentioned as "too short" and worth merging back, so if it was only something like 9 or 10, I'd be wary of launching.
I am still finding stray folders for Laura Kinney. It’s like for every book she’s appeared in there’s a folder. I moved the tropes from NYX to her page. I also think that since she doesn’t really like the name X-23, maybe we could call it Marvel Comics: Laura Kinney
Sounds good to me. As you point out, much of her arc has been about becoming a free woman, not a test subject. And Character Specific Pages has a preference for names over titles.
X-23 feels like the wrong name to use in that context.

Also X 23 Supporting Characters has several duplicate folders, including captain Universe, Kingpin, Captain America, Squirrel-Girl, Spider-Gwen, Daredevil, Doctor Strange Jubilee, The Wasp, Nick Fury Jr, Mariah Hill, Angel, Hellion, Jean Grey, Gambit and The Stepford Cuckoos. Possibly More. I feel like Some crosswicking can be done to lengthen to Cuckoos and possibly give the girls individual folders and one general folder. Maybe.
Edit: Oh and there’s a separate folder for Gabby in X 23 Rogues Gallery. Honestly this whole section is a mess and needs an overview. There are several duplicate folders for villains too. I think after overview supporting characters and villains could probably be on one page.

I'm counting 23, so if nobody has any objections I'll launch it... [checks clock] Well... umm... later today, I suppose.
Neither Laura is using X-23 at the moment. The original is going by Talon, and her clone is going by Wolverine... or at least they were before the Fall of X. IIRC original Laura got gibbed by Nimrod, and I don't know what happened to younger Laura.

There are a bunch of character-specific pages that don't use the "Marvel Comics" subheading that may need to be moved over. I made a list and offered some suggestions below.
- Daredevil: Matt Murdock ➡️ Marvel Comics: Matt Murdock or Marvel Comics Daredevil
- Deadpool: Wade Wilson ➡️ Marvel Comics: Deadpool
- The Punisher: Frank Castle ➡️ Marvel Comics Punisher or Marvel Comics The Punisher
- The Mighty Thor: Thor Odinson ➡️ Marvel Comics Thor or Marvel Comics: Thor Odinson
- Wolverine: James "Logan" Howlett ➡️ Marvel Comics Wolverine or Marvel Comics: Logan or Marvel Comics James Howlett
- X-23: Laura Kinney ➡️ Marvel Comics X 23 or Marvel Comics: Laura Kinney
- Carnage - Cletus Kasady ➡️ Marvel Comics: Cletus Kasady
- Hawkeye: Kate Bishop ➡️ Marvel Comics: Kate Bishop
- Spider-Man: Peter Parker ➡️ Marvel Comics Spider Man or Marvel Comics: Peter Parker
- Ultimate Spider-Man: Miles Morales ➡️ Marvel Comics: Miles Morales or Ultimate Marvel Miles Morales
- Venom: The Symbiote ➡️ Marvel Comics: Venom
- Venom: Eddie Brock ➡️ Marvel Comics: Eddie Brock
- Cable: Nathan Summers ➡️ Marvel Comics: Cable
- Incredible Hulk: Bruce Banner ➡️ Marvel Comics Hulk or Marvel Comics The Hulk or Marvel Comics: Bruce Banner
- X-Men: Sinister ➡️ Marvel Comics Sinister or Marvel Comics Nathaniel Essex
- Moon Knight: Marc Spector ➡️ Marvel Comics: Moon Knight

It's gonna be fun on the bun!The thing about the Sinister Page is it isn’t one character like these others. And they aren’t all clones of Nathaniel Essex. One of them is a clone of Rebecca Essex, the original Nathaniel’s wife.
Given we're about to get a new Punisher, I'd be tempted to use Characters.Marvel Comics Frank Castle for disambig purposes?
I think I agree about Sinister. It's covering multiple sets of clones, not just the original.
I mean I did have an option for using the Sinister name instead of Nathaniel Essex.
So anyone whose alias is a legacy should use their name instead.

It's gonna be fun on the bun!""Marvel Comics: Sinisters", maybe?
I need to think a little more about the rest, but generally looking good. Given the number of wicks, I can see this being a gradual move...

Spoilers for Fall of X: Both survived the attack, and continued with the same codenames. Talon is with the X-Men, while Wolverine is with the X-Force
As for the moves, I'm ok with moving the ones with other significant mantle-holders to their real names. For Miles, I'd say Marvel Comics: Miles Morales, he's been in 616 for a good time already, I think more than he was in 1610, so I'd say it's fair to put it into the general Marvel Comics rather than Ultimate Marvel specifically. For Wolverine, I'd lean Logan, but if people prefer James Howlett, then sure.
So what we've decided on is the following?
- Daredevil: Matt Murdock ➡️ Marvel Comics: Matt Murdock
- Deadpool: Wade Wilson ➡️ Marvel Comics: Deadpool
- The Punisher: Frank Castle ➡️ Marvel Comics: Frank Castle
- The Mighty Thor: Thor Odinson ➡️ Marvel Comics: Thor Odinson
- Wolverine: James "Logan" Howlett ➡️ Marvel Comics: Logan or Marvel Comics James Howlett
- X-23: Laura Kinney ➡️ Marvel Comics: Laura Kinney
- Carnage - Cletus Kasady ➡️ Marvel Comics: Cletus Kasady
- Hawkeye: Kate Bishop ➡️ Marvel Comics: Kate Bishop
- Spider-Man: Peter Parker ➡️ Marvel Comics: Peter Parker
- Ultimate Spider-Man: Miles Morales ➡️ Marvel Comics: Miles Morales
- Venom: The Symbiote ➡️ Marvel Comics: Venom
- Venom: Eddie Brock ➡️ Marvel Comics: Eddie Brock
- Cable: Nathan Summers ➡️ Marvel Comics: Cable
- Incredible Hulk: Bruce Banner ➡️ Marvel Comics: Bruce Banner
- X-Men: Sinister ➡️ Marvel Comics Sinister
- Moon Knight: Marc Spector ➡️ Marvel Comics: Moon Knight
On an unrelated note, I've launched the following Sandboxes: It's gonna be fun on the bun!
Both of the Spider-Man covers have the Marvel watermark stripe on them. Do we have versions without?
I can take a look at the MU library if that wasn't the source...
Edited by Mrph1 on Sep 27th 2023 at 1:21:04 PM
I just used the main website. Didn't think about the watermark. If you can find un-watermarked images go for it.
One related thing though is I'm not sure what to title the Marvel Knights Spider-Man series as, since it is renamed to Sensational Spider-Man midway through.
It's gonna be fun on the bun! When that came up on a TV show, I think the steer was pick one for page name and create the other as a redirect.
If one title applies to far more of the run than the other, use that for the page, but if it's not clear cut there is a preference for using the first title.
(This is from memory, will try to find the thread)
Edit: Grabbed cover screenshots from the MU app.

Yeah I like moving away from the X-23 naming scheme completely convention as a whole on this site. Especially since a lot of the characters on rogues gallery and supporting characters are not exclusive to her as X-23 and in fact more debited during her time as Wolverine. I was thinking we can merge Supporting Characters of Wolverine and X-24 and Rogues gallery and put them under these tabs
Logan’s supporting cast
Laura’s supporting cast
Logan’s enemies
Laura’s enemies

Also now that Ultimate Invasion is done I was thinking of making a character page under it to cover Earth 6160 and redirecting it as Marvel Comics Earth 6160
I proposed an image change for ComicBook.Venom on Image Pickin'. The thread is here.
It's gonna be fun on the bun!
