I'm starting a new thread to expand a policy discussion from here.
We are considering clarifying our rule about Fetish Fuel and "pervy" troping to include Tropers pages. In other words, we would ask for the voluntary removal of any self-troping of fetish- or kink-related content. If someone is suspended and unable to edit their own Tropers page, or refuses to do so, we would remove it ourselves.
This isn't about kink-shaming; it's about complying with our existing rules about sexual content. We don't allow fetish threads on the forums and we removed Fetish Fuel from the wiki proper ages ago.
Consensus has already been established among the moderators and among the contributors to the moderation thread, but this topic is for general comments.
Please do not rush to report people, and do not harass other tropers. Nobody will be "in trouble" unless they blatantly refuse to comply with the policy. Rather, we would like to see self-moderation.
Addressing questions in the header post:
- "Simping" and shipping are not inherently pervy unless they get too graphic. "I ship Ahsoka and Anakin," or, "I have a celebrity crush on Michael Fassbender," are fine. Going into detail about what you'd like to do to them in bed is not.
- Author Appeal is also not inherently bad. If you really enjoy putting pencils in your work, share away. But if those pencils go somewhere inappropriate, please don't tell us.

FYI, I'm going to take comments until roughly this time tomorrow and then try to figure out where is the best place to add it to the rules.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"It's probably for the better that the rule is in place.
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.I agree with the policy, both because of existing policy against fetish threads/pages, and also because TV Tropes should be reasonably safe for minors, which should include troper pages.
And we also don't need a repeat of the Google incident.
And yes, it should be dealt with in private.
Optimism is a duty.I'm all in. After what I've seen today, it's safe to say the world can and will go mad when given the chance.
I removed the "Favorite Tropes" and "Pet-Peeve Tropes" lists from my troper page just in case they run afoul of Auto-Erotic Troping and Troper Tales. Three entries on my "Favorite Tropes" list involved my preference for Elegant Gothic Lolita, Meido and Miko clothing, which I admit are my fetishes of sorts and I can understand why it wouldn't be ok, so my apologies.

I didn't look at your troper page, but listing tropes you like is not in any way problematic, as long as they aren't explicitly sexual or fetishistic and you don't go into "excessive" detail.
I'm not talking about a total purge of "stuff people like". Please don't take it that way.
Hypothetical:
I think it should be fairly obvious which one we're concerned about.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Agreed with this. Listing favourite tropes is fine, going into explicit sexual detail is not.
Optimism is a duty.I wasn't intending to forbid Favorite Trope and Pet-Peeve Trope lists either. In fact, the reason I intend to take Pet-Peeve Trope to TRS to make it IUEO is to keep it off YMMV pages, since I thought it was definition-only before I saw it allows off-page examples (followed by a wick check I did showing that in-universe examples already outnumber out-of-universe ones). I wasn't intending to do anything with wicks on Tropers/ pages.

You can't always get what you want.I agree with this new rule. TV Tropes is not an appropriate place to wax poetic about your fetishes. We got rid of Fetish Fuel for a very good reason, after all.

YAWK YAWK YAWK YAWKalso agreeing.
Stan GaruKaru for clear skinAgreed to the rule (should've gone without saying, but ah well)

Absolute destiny... apeachalypse?to the new rule
Just to clarify (and because I am a bit confused over it), if the rules are accpeted and made official, it will be announced in the news bulletin board, right?.
I'm in agreement with such a rule.
I imagine a post will be made in THE FORUM RULES thread.
"Life's worth living, no matter how bad things get." /// (Avatar: Kotobuki Tsumugi)Probably not there, as the troper pages are not part of the forum.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI was considering if Get Known needs "About your Tropers page" segment, but at the time beside how to make one there wasn't much to think of.

TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupAgreeing with the rule proposal.
Yet another to this rule, FWIW.
I think enough time has passed to confirm that there are no significant objections to the proposed rule. I'll start adjusting the relevant policy articles.
- Welcome to TV Tropes (complete)
- No Lewdness, No Prudishness (complete)
- The Content Policy (complete)
Anything else?

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I don't think it belongs on the content policy page - that page is about which works we have pages on and explicitly says that page text is outside of its scope.
I've expanded the writing on No Lewdness, No Prudishness to mention discussion pages and liveblogs, I remember we sometimes had problems on discussion pages.
Maybe we want an entry on TV Tropes Customs as well?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanMentioning it on TV Tropes Customs makes sense, now that you mention it, and I agree that mentioning it on The Content Policy isn't necessary since that applies to works.
You can't always get what you want.Concur with transplanting from Content Policy to Customs.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I added a new line to the "Editing the wiki proper" section of Administrivia.TV Tropes Customs, using text based on what was added to and removed from Administrivia. The Content Policy:
Does anything need to be trimmed or added?
You can't always get what you want.
I think this rule is a good idea as well.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."
