We have determined that Lets Players are not inherently tropable. They need to provide some sort of narrative, characters, and story to be allowed on this wiki. This applies to Vtubers just as much as other content creators, but Kayfabe makes the distinction between streamer and character particularly fuzzy.
The purpose of the thread is to remove tropes from pages concerning Vtubers that apply only to the actor rather than the character.
- If there is not a clear separation between the character and the actor, we assume that it is the actor represented, and thus they are not tropable.
- In other words, it is up to the user writing the example to show that it pertains to the character and not the actor.
- Regardless, the content they produce must meet our standards for Web Video, meaning substantial original and/or transformative material.
- A vlog, review, or Let's Play does not become tropable just because the person doing it has an anime avatar.
- Original Characters are not tropable without at least being part of a narrative work. That means there must be produced, published, creative content with that character, not merely a "backstory". Only the elements of those narrative works may be troped.

- The myriad talents of hololive have impressive talents and accomplishments that one might not notice at first blush. To name a few examples:
- Inugami Korone, a Gamer Chick from the hololive GAMERS team, is a Tokyo University graduate with a degree in philosophy, and is one of the most athletic hololive idols, taking up boxing as a hobby and pulling off amazing acrobatics onstage during the "Link Your Wish" concert.
- Takanashi Kiara is similarly talented at dance, teaching dance routines to her fellow holoMyth members and showing off her moves during the "Link Your Wish" concert.
- Gawr Gura seems naive and innocent, but she is actually very smart, being able to pick up new languages quickly, well-versed in HTML coding, and being good enough at puzzles to excel in escape rooms.
- Mori Calliope is regarded as one of, if not the most musically talented members of the company. Most know her for her rapping, but she also composes her own songs and can play several instruments. This culminated in her getting signed by Universal Music Group and headlining her own concerts. She is also well-versed in stage performances, and was even a ballerina when she was younger. And while not quite up to Ina's level, she's also a skilled artist.
She's also an excellent English language teacher, and even hosts her own lesson streams with the Japanese members.
And while she openly admits that she's terrible at games, she excels at the few games she does focus on, to the point of mastering the infamously difficult Jump King and speedrunning it in under 8 minutes.
- Ina'nis Ninomae's career as professional digital artist is well-known, she has repeatedly demonstrated how good she is at teaching her skills. Several of Ina's followers have mentioned getting into art because of her, and Calli has incorporated Ina's advice to improve her own work.
- Amelia Watson has extensive knowledge of caring for aquatic life, insects, and building and maintaining terrariums and aquariums. Her real-life setup is so developed, a nosy neighbor thought she was running a drug lab.
Despite all of her chaotic gremlin antics in her streams, she is much calmer and more responsible behind the scenes. She's also the EN Branch's tech support guru, with her place serving as a recording studio and allowing the girls to do their mocaps without having to go to Japan. If there's a major EN collab, chances are she's running it.
- Shishiro Botan is not only one of hololive's most hardcore gamers, she is also a computer wiz who builds her own rigs.
- Momosuzu Nene enjoyed playing Kouchuu Ouja Mushiking so much that she wanted to recreate the experience in real life. As a result, she's very passionate and knowledgeable about catching and breeding different species of beetles
, and even has a second Twitter account
mainly to show off photos of her exploits. She even carries spare batteries in her bag
so she can use a headlight when searching for beetles in the forest. Also, despite her outward Genki Girl personality, she's been explicitly diagnosed with depression
and has talked openly about it.
- Omaru Polka is known for her chaotic and Genki Girl personality. However, she is also one of the most introspective, emotionally intelligent, and philosophical members. Lamy once likened her to an on and off switch, and that her energy is either at 1 or 10 and nothing in between.
She often goes out of her way to support the other girls, both in games and in real life. When Nene had a mental breakdown live on stream, Polka immediately came to her house in person and took her to the hospital. She's also a Woman of a Thousand Voices and can flawlessly imitate several other members
, to the point that it's a running joke in the fandom that every 5th Gen JP member (if not all of JP) is secretly Polka.
- Sora Tokino is the face of the company and the de facto leader and idol that all the rest of the girls revere. Due to this, she spent years of being Lonely at the Top. However, this was resolved later on with the others becoming more comfortable around her and letting her participate in more collabs. Despite her pleasant and demure personality, she loves horror games and is utterly fearless when playing them. She's also a highly skilled darts player, and even owns her own set in real life.
- Roboco often traveled overseas and was fluent in English as a child,
but has gradually lost it over the years.
- Sakura Miko is famous for her Comedic Sociopathy, Womanchild and Butt-Monkey tendencies, and being The Unintelligible. However, she's also a skilled graphics designer
and knows how to play the piano.
- Hoshimachi Suisei is one of, if not the best singers in the company, and has a massive catalog of songs and music videos. When it comes to games, however, she has a reputation for being a Competition Freak and having a penchant for extremely violent Comedic Sociopathy, to the point that her fan nickname is "Suiciopath." She also thrives on quick deductive reasoning in Among Us streams, and is an absolute master of Tetris.
- Shirakami Fubuki has been around since the first gen, and is The Leader of the in-house hololive GAMERS group. She's well-versed in several games, a noted workaholic behind the scenes, and is regarded by her fans and peers as The Heart of the company. She's also a huge fan of superhero films, to the point that she got to interview Jared Leto
for Morbius (2022).
- Minato Aqua is an exceptionally skilled gamer and major Competition Freak in online multiplayer games, especially when it comes to Apex Legends and Mario Kart. Behind the scenes, however, Aqua is a huge Shrinking Violet, to the point where she's struggled to order food for herself
. She's slowly, but gradually
opening up throughout her years at the company
.
- Yuzuki Choco is known for being The Smart Girl and the Supreme Chef of Hololive due to her streams focusing on academic quizzes and cooking with other members. She's also very popular, a shameless flirt, and several women both in and out of the company have said that they'd want to marry her. In real life, she gained her skills by opting out of a tradtional college and going to culinary school
. Before graduating high school, she had no experience with cooking and actually hated doing it. Choco made the unorthodox decision to go for a career she hated, because it allowed her to see the industry for what it was, without being biased by passion like her peers. As a result, she's one of the more grounded members.
- Oozora Subaru looks like a tomboy with NO INDOOR VOICE that is oddly reminiscent of Donald Duck, leading to the fanon and Ascended Meme that she actually is a duck. She's almost always the Butt-Monkey, Straight Man, or The Team Normal in any comedic situation. In real life, however, she has a Dark and Troubled Past: Subaru was a Country Mouse born with a heart defect that would've killed her without surgical intervention. She was also hit by a car hard enough to send her flying, but somehow survived. Then her house burned down during her final year of high school. She joined Hololive as a way to help make ends meet. Despite all of this, she is The Pollyanna of the group; she works hard, is supportive and energetic, and has become arguably the greatest Breakout Character in Hololive. Subaru has also proven to be adept at learning languages. While most of the JP members are attempting to learn English with varying degrees of success, Subaru focused on it for the sake of interacting with overseas fans and the EN and ID Branches
. In about a year, she's developed her skills enough to communicate comfortably with English-speaking fans and members
, and even writes and translates summaries of whatever she's discussing in her streams.
Yeah. I also think it's a misuse of Hidden Depths.
Didn't know Momosuzu Nene has a bug-related second account. I wonder it it's tropable as blog or would count as spin-off material.

Axed.
- Various girls in hololive qualify.
- The two most notable on the Japanese side are Akai Haato (Haachama) and Kiryu Coco. Haachama went to school in Australia and is capable of holding a conversation in English, while Coco was born in America and natively speaks English.
- Every member of the Indonesia group can speak fluent English.
- Though she's part of Hololive English, Takanashi Kiara qualifies as she was born in Austria and natively speaks German. She's also fluent in Japanese.
- Over at holostars, Kishido Temma takes his English learning very seriously, even translating his own clips into English in one such instance
.
- Oozora Subaru once partook in a foreign-exchange program in Canada, allowing her to get a decent grasp of English. It somewhat degraded since, but has relearned it and even managed to do an English collab with Kiara and Reine.
- Lui Takane surprised everyone with an amazing grasp of English. Able to complete full sentences and even use some slang. Her English-learning stream with Calli showed her capabilities even more.
- Lumi is a Finnish vtuber who speaks English with a near flawless American accent. During a question and answer video one of her viewers even asked if she really was from Finland. She replied yes, and while she could speak English with a strong Finnish accent she chose not to.
- Pikamee Amano, of VOMS Project, speaks in fluent and grammatically sound English as well as Japanese. Most of her streams have English peppered in, and she also holds primarily English streams as well.
Real person troping, cut?
Still not super confident with big edits like this.
Courtesy: SugarWiki.Surprisingly Good Foreign Language
As Sugar Wiki, I kinda don't care what goes there, though if we're extending the policy there, these should be cut. Coco and Haato (self-proclaimed EN 0) can probably stay if recontextualized, as they have content in exclusive fluent English despite being a part of Japan branch with japanese audience.
And yeah, large edits need more than one person's nod.
Edited by Amonimus on Oct 2nd 2022 at 1:09:36 PM
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupProbably should have waited on that cut, then.
On another note, Real Life Troping finally went live, so I linked that in the header.
Edit: I'd imagine the policy extends to the Darth and Sugar Wikis, but is that actually the case? That might be a stupid question, but I just want to be 100% sure.
Edited by badtothebaritone on Oct 2nd 2022 at 5:21:16 AM
I would assume it does carry over, if only because things from those namespaces that go on other pages are usually either moments or narrative and characterization tropes.
EDIT: a word
Edited by TrocyteV on Oct 2nd 2022 at 10:23:26 AM
"If you spent as much time fightin' as ye did hidin', maybe this wouldn't have happened!"Noting that my previous response accidentally used a word that likely made it mean the complete opposite of what I meant to say. It's been edited to be more clear.
As for the talent sandboxes, which do you think would be easier to tackle first? The branch-wide pages for length, or the individual character pages (Suisei, Fubuki, Haachama, Gura, Calli, and Kronii) for having only one person to focus on per page? Been thinking of getting cracking on those soon and wanted to get some opinions. "If you spent as much time fightin' as ye did hidin', maybe this wouldn't have happened!"
They all look equally difficult, so I was considering starting from the top. Or other subpages like Heartwarming.Hololive. Or checking the validity of other Virtual YouTuber pages. Whatever keeps the cleaning going.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupSince the discussion seem to have stalled for near a weak, here's something easy:
WebAnimation.Kaguya Luna may be a ZCE stub.
TroperWall / WikiMagic Cleanupi drafted this while half asleep so i might have a handful of items in the wrong folders that i missed
weaponizing Dungeon Fighter Online elitism since 2018
Everything in the first two folders for each can be cut. Some notes:
- Tokino Sora:
- Brutal Honesty: Can be checked if it would count in-game roleplay, but that example doesn't sound like Brutal Honesty and may be ZCE anyway.
- Don't Call Me "Sir": Ambiguous if the Discredited Meme made its way into any official content, but the example doesn't say so.
- I Have Many Names: Sounds like having a lot of nicknames is acknowledged, but the example doesn't say so or what are the other names.
- Sakura Miko
- Drives Like Crazy: Miko semi-regularly streams driving sims and has a unique modification to her avatar for immersion, so it appears that she's purposefully reinforces this stereotype into her character. Still, the example doesn't talk about that.
- Verbal Tic: No idea if it's intentional.
- Abhorrent Admirer: No idea if it's scripted.
- Comedic Lolicon: Mikodanye is fictional, but the "may be" example is not good.
- Hopeless Suitor: Can't tell if it's "an arc" or a Running Gag.
- Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Says they have official song regarding Vitriolic Best Buds, so the mention of that song can be rephrased as Vitriolic Best Buds example.
Would hold on for now:
- Tokino Sora
- Not So Above It All: One example describes hololive - Holo no Graffiti content.
- Sakura Miko
- The Baby of the Bunch / Bratty Half-Pint: If the "baby" personality if acknowledged to the point where they do thematic collabs, and it's made its way into merch, it can stay.
- Born Unlucky: The "lava bucket" is an Ascended Meme and is added to the merch. Not sure how to rewrite this.
- The Unintelligible / What the Hell Is That Accent? / Even the Subtitler Is Stumped / Motor Mouth: It's consistent and acknowledged. Though probably only Even the Subtitler Is Stumped can stay since it describes the production and not the trait.
- Maou the Demon King: May effectively be a roleplay.
- Netorare: If it's part of the official Game Show episode, it may counts as content.
- Odd Friendship: Describes in-character roles.
- Sir Swears-a-Lot: Probably intentional to the point of Catchphrase and has some Meme Acknowledgment, but the example focuses soley on GTA.
- Self-Insert Fic: Sounds like scripted content to me if she has to go out of her way to showcase it.
- Azki
- The Ageless: Sounds In-Universe to me unless proven otherwise.
Do we need to add a warning with something like this to Characters pages?
That warning sounds good. I'm tempted to ask for an even stricter policy about pointing to where the examples happened, but maybe that's just my inner academic ranting about citations.
Minor thought about the Sandbox Page: Not sure if I agree about deleting Azki's Marry Them All example. It references Nene who I am more familiar with, and I think for both talents any discussion of them being "married" to viewers is solidly a matter of in-universe roleplay rather than a spontaneous game or stream reaction.
The whole lovers/marrying/adopting things need its own entire review. Some are jokes while some persisted for months and are used for thematic grouping.

i'll get on committing those gen 0 changes then
honestly the warning should apply to the entire page, considering Real Life Troping is problematic everywhere on it
weaponizing Dungeon Fighter Online elitism since 2018Oi, got some bad news. As it turns out, Pipkin Pippa of Phase-Connect has been exposed as an far-right wing
dog-whistler. What to do in this situation? As a matter fact, what to do with the entire page?
Edited by Siegfried1337 on Oct 10th 2022 at 12:28:59 PM
Eh, good enough. We don't do anything unless their career is affected, same as we do for all other cases of this happening.
Edited by WarJay77 on Oct 10th 2022 at 3:29:39 PM
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallYeah, but I'm concerned about her character page stealthily supporting her viewpoints.
Eh, good enough. If it has nothing to do with her "character" then we shouldn't have those tropes posted anyway and if we do we can cut them and report whoever is adding them.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallA Creator's personal life or views have no importance or relevance to tvtropes and aren't allowed to be troped on pages to begin with.
If there's something on Characters.Phase Connect that is about the person behind the camera and not written-in for the character, it should be removed. If the character is explicitly also made alt-right, it's kinda not our problem I think.
Edited by Amonimus on Oct 10th 2022 at 10:52:20 PM
TroperWall / WikiMagic Cleanupdone with the hololive gen 0 stuff that's been addressed so far
edit: also started a sandbox for suisei (although it's not finished)
Edited by Freecom on Oct 10th 2022 at 12:13:19 PM
weaponizing Dungeon Fighter Online elitism since 2018Some thoughts on Suisei's sandbox: Should the "Crossover" entry be there at all, regardless of whether or not it's real life troping? Unless there is something special about their relationship, I don't think we need to put Crossover on every talents that regularly collabs with non-hololive members.
Hmm, I'm not sure how A-Cup Angst examples should be treated. On one hand, it often takes the form of one-off jokes and only a few talents make it part of their personas. On the other hand, it seems it would necessarily be about the avatar given that their real-life body is not visible to the viewers.
Ascended Fangirl seems an edge case to me. While her official interactions with Love Live and Cardfight Vanguard were under the Hoshimachi Suisei name, her status as a fangirl at any prior point seems like real life troping unrealated to the avatar/persona.
I think the only instance of A-Cup Angst we should keep is Rushia because she explicitly stated it was a trait of her character and not how her IRL self actually felt.
Edited by badtothebaritone on Oct 10th 2022 at 6:57:57 AM
Took a second look at WebAnimation.Phase Connect and found this:
- Biting-the-Hand Humor: Like how hololive has it's CEO YAGOO subject to being the butt of the joke among the talents and fans, the CEO of Phase-Connect Kevin Li, commonly known as Sakana, is given similar treatment. Such as Uruka claiming herself the owner of Phase-Connect, or how he's portrayed as a Corrupt Corporate Executive in Shiina's lore video.
- Corrupt Corporate Executive: In Shiina's lore video, Sakana kidnaps a bunch of the girls as part of his "not scam" to build and debut the second generation of Phase-Connect.
- Suspiciously Specific Denial: Sakana's recruitment poster for Phase-Connect featured in Shiina's lore video has such gems like "[NOT A SCAM!]" directly below WANTED and "Not a black company"note in the speech bubble. When Shiina makes it to the corporation to apply for a job, the "totally NOT overworked manager" also repeats the latter phrase insistently with a tired look on her face.
Anyone verify this?
Eh, good enough.
