I don't think you get more blatant than a scene for scene match.
One of the characters is an outright Chu-Chu reference,
which is certainly not what I was expecting from a Gundam series, especially after watching the prologue. But I'm not complaining, if anything more anime school settings should be ripping off Utena, worked out great for Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight.
It's fascinating. And it raises the question of just how committed they are to following Utena's story beats. Will someone lay an egg? Will Suletta turn into a Gundam? There is a non-zero chance of these things happening.
First Impressions
- Vazzrock: Literally dumps all the characters on you, then spends the entirety of the first episode talking about themselves, under the guise of a radio program interview. Quickly lost my interest when the guys started listing their personality traits, because that sure is the way to sell your characters to the viewers. Dropped.
- Shinobi no Ittoki: It’s a dumb action thing. You get smooth parkour and combat animation; at the same time you get a fair few plot holes. Probably the biggest one is the mom not telling the MC about their ninja heritage makes no sense especially since she wasn’t planning to let him live a normal life anyway. Speaking of the MC though, I like that he’s already smart and athletic, so him becoming the top dog of his clan isn’t too tall an order. Should be a decent watch if the kunai keep flying. Continuing.
- Gundam: The Witch From Mercury: Woo, first time watching a Gundam show. This seems fun enough, though any and all Utena/Gundam references will be completely lost on me. Though I'm not sure I'm entirely sold on the show yet, not sure what it was, but it wasn't quite winning me over. Might need to see more of Suletta and Miorine interactions.
- Management of Novice Alchemist: Cute girls brew potions, seems simple and comfy enough. Should make for a good filler show.
- Shinobi no Ittoki: Well Ittoki's kind of meh as a protag, and the premise is very... weak. Maybe they're saving the explanation for the second episode, but I probably won't be checking that out, so why was Ittoki not told his family are ninjas? Especially if people are going to want him dead? He's already being put through stupid amounts of training apparently. When your intro requires every single character to be stupid for things to proceed, maybe spend an extra five minutes working on the plot.
Unless the writers pull something significantly abhorrent I'll probably be sticking with this. I like the characters animation and setting so far.
Also I've roped like 4 of my friends into watching it with me at this point lol

I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boysI only finished one Gundam (8th team) if you do not count first season of Build Fighters. So it is hard for me to make myself watch any new one (I doubt they'll go full GL). Ironically I watched all Macrosses (last movie just came out with subs so time to check it).

I started Macross about 2 and a half years ago.
I watched Frontier then worked my way though from the start slowly.
Just have Delta and a few of the films left before I've watched it all.
More pertinently, I also started Gundam Wing a couple of months ago. I'm only about a third of the way finished, so I'd like to at last finish that before starting another Gundam, even though I know they're not connected directly.
Personally, I always find the burden of following something live way less than binging it directly.
Which is probably why I still haven't watched Getter Robo Arc, I missed the start of that. :T

I don't expect them to go all the way, but I have hope.
But I always have hope.

Same here. I almost exclusively watch new series now because it is:
a) Pretty hard for me to binge something unless it hooks me up from the start.
b) A bunch of series considered classics were not interesting enough for me when I tried them, so I am pretty hesitant now to check anything else.

Ah, but when I binge something I'll go watch 26 episodes in two days and forget to eat, so I'm not above it so much as somewhat difficult to get started.
But year-long series are way beyond my desire to get started on most of the time. Could do it? Yeah. Will? Almost certainly not unless I have a really strong reason to care†.
† the funny thing is that if the current Gundam does actually go full GL in the end, that + giant robots would actually be enough. Something needs to follow on from the utter WTF that is Kannazuki no Miko at some point.
These days I can usually only watch two, maybe three episodes of anything in a single sitting whereas when I was a teenager/college student with more free time, energy, and fewer obligations/interests I could binge much more deeply. That said, early in the year I started watching Gintama and somehow I've kept up a fairly consistant viewing schedule and am currently already three-hundred episodes in with only around seventy more to go.
My Megaman and MegaTen RPG LiveblogsI'm hesitant on getting into Witches from Mercury because I didn't care for the direction Iron-Blooded Orphans season 2 went in, and thus I'm tempted to just wait until I know it has a good villain and satisfactory ending before watching even though I've never agreed with the same kind of people who do that in most of the media they watch.
I thinks it's fair to put something on hold our of reservations. I did the same with Lycoris recoil when I started seeing people say "The character interactions sound so real" which was something I heard for Gridman (a show I enjoy but feel more critical to both seasons the more I stew on it) and Wonder egg priority (a show I fucking hate to an almost comical degree). Well in the end Lycoris recoil turned out fine lol
I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boysInitial Reactions:
Tensei Shitara Ken Deshita: It was one empowering opening! Good luck to Fran in her quest to become stronger!! (Though I'm likely to be a week late...)
Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute: A nice prologue with much use of the Moonlight Sonata, which in hindsight, does seem like it forshadows what Kagenou's gonna become. Also loved the badassery in display here; although, I heard that this is part comedy, so I guess I'll have to stick around for that...
Mob Psycho 100 S3: And we're back one last time! Good luck in looking for what you want ot be in the future, Shigeo!
Do It Yourself!!: So we got an aloof, clumsy main chara, a tech-savvy, elite girl who is both the main's neighbor and close friend (well, was), a senpai who runs a DIY club and has a hand in the hardware business, and the start of many crafts... This one is my chill anime for this season.
