Wiki namespace discussion

Continuing from here.

Is Wiki/ an appropriate namespace? It's not a Medium, it just catches The Wiki Rule entries that have own pages. I believe there's not much that separates these from Website/.

There's just about 50 pages, so moving pages from Wiki/ to Website/ wouldn't take relatively long (That's still 10000 wicks, though it's only a matter of renaming). There are points that we don't really need Wiki/ as a namespace.

(This is pretty much a pitch to see if the idea of a yes/no crowner would be supported.)

There are also concerns that same pages, like Memory Alpha don't even have tropes, or like Harvey Girls Forever Fanon and The Worldbuild Project that lack quality control, so that's something that can be cleaned-up while at it. —- I'll repost the updated list from the first page with current progress. It can probably be pinned and updated as the progress goes on. I'll continue to move wicks meanwhile.

It's hard to prove the current setup is confusing, if that's what you're going for. Website.SCP Foundation has surprisingly few wicks compared to the Wiki/ page it redirects to, but I'm not sure if that's because people have been actively cleaning it up or not.

I'm on board with deprecating Wiki/. Not thriving namespace, there aren't a lot of tropable wikis (SCP and TFWiki.net notwithstanding), veers into Real Life troping or troping of users too often, and Website/ works just as well in my opinion. to deprecation.

I mean tbf most websites aren't tropeworthy either, and most of the ones that are definitely aren't wikis. So either way wiki would have to go.

I broadly support consolidating Wiki/ into Website/.

I mostly go off of this having far too few pages (52 out of 609379) while being practically covered by a broad namespace. But yes, merge.

Should we hook a crowner?

Not quite yet. It's a namespace change, so we need more discussion.

I think merging Wiki/ into Website/ is a good idea.

So how's it looking?

I don't think we are going to get anymore feedback than this. Maybe we can advertise this thread on ATT and then make a crowner after a couple of days.

This may be the only reasonable option at the moment.

We don't see a compelling reason for Wiki/ to be its own namespace.

... Admittedly we don't see a compelling reason to merge it into Website/ either. It may be the case that all wikis are websites anyway, but unlike some other media (*cough light novel cough*) it's not like there's any room for confusion about whether a given website is or isn't a wiki.

It's mostly because if we purge all the non-tropeworthy examples, the namespace will barely exist anyway.

Should we revisit this after a cleanup of the namespace, to see what's left?

Or we do this concurrently - that which isn't tropable is cut, that which is will be moved.

I agree moving Wiki/ to Website/, though moving wicks for The Other Wiki and This Very Wiki is going to take a while.

Wasn't that what we're doing with LetsPlay/? That might work.

If there are any pages that require cleaning, then can get that after or during the moving. Compared to LetsPlay/ there isn't that much to check.

Actually, let me review these quickly for future reference. Also note that many of these lack indexing.

Also not sure what LetsPlay.Final Fantasy Wiki is supposed to be.
