No really, hear me out.
This movie was partially produced by the Combine media division as a way of discrediting the rebellion that was up and coming at the time. Each of the main characters represents a different leader of the rebellion.
Additionally, Diane Foxington represents Judith Mossman as someone working on the boundary between "good" and "bad", and Professor Marmalade is Wallace Breen, being the puppet-leader of the Combine and certified "good guy" who tries to help them for the better.
