Yeah, at least the Olympians have the excuse of not being on the planet when everything was going down. My guess is that they've spent the last thousand-odd years just hanging out in their own world and partying, completely oblivious to everything that was happening around them.

Oh, and people are really loving the schadenfreude of Chris Pratt playing a character who is definitely going to finally be canonically bi. Because Taika doesn't screw around with representation.

Ennead too, by the looks of it, though Khonshu is enough of a prick to have brought plenty of his situation on himself either way.

Oh that would be just perfect especially with the confirmation that a Nova project is in development.

Lets have Star Lord move on from Gamora with his BF Nova.

Speaking of, i wonder if the Greek gods will be "space gods" like the Asgardians or mystical gods like the Egyptian ones we saw in Moon Knight.

I’m moreso concerned with how they’re gonna reconcile the Eternals with the Olympians. Athena and Thena being entirely separate entities in the same setting would get quite confusing.

Amusingly the Olympians here by virtue of appearing to live on their own planet somewhat resemble the New Gods, DC's own cosmic group of deities by Jack Kirby

Marvel has a great solution for reconciling Olympian Athena vs. Eternal Thena: shhhh don't worry about it.

It's the comics way.

If Quill is going to move on from Gamora, I imagine it would happen in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, where Gamora would almost definitely be involved.

Set the Elder God and Set the Egyptian god also exist together, as do Lilith the Mother of Demons and Lilith the daughter of Dracula.

Mustering for and preparing to face a far greater foe? That's a generous interpretation of a whole other pantheon suddenly being retconned into existence.

I frankly hope the answer is that they're either vastly less powerful than the Asgardians, or just totally uninterested (or even already all dead by the time of those events). But my expectation is that they're going to be introduced, just to be genocided by Gorr, in order to demonstrate his power. Because the MCU seems addicted to introducing pre-existing powers who really ought to have been previously involved.

ETA: At least Moonknight expressly has the gods there flat out say theyre not getting involved and haven't for a very long time.

Meanwhile, we’d have the god-like entities that inspired our myths and legends… when those exact myths and legends are right there as physical entities. I’d say that the Olympians were brought to life via Clap Your Hands If You Believe and call it a day.

The Eternals inspired some of the myths, and there were enough similarities to pre-existing gods that people assumed they were the same. Like how the Greeks assumed the Egyptian god of wisdom Thoth was really Hermes.

Honestly, real mythology is often a hodge-podge of different ideas being confused with one another. For example, Cronus (leader of the Titans and father of the Olympians) and Chronos (the personification of time) are technically two different beings, but have often been conflated with each other over the course of history. In fact, it's where we get the common image of Father Time from.

Given how Greek myths are a mess to keep straight, you could go with "Thena did this, Athena did that" as you please, really.

They time shared. Thena got to be a goddess on weekdays. Athena got it on weekends and holidays.

Its moments like these you start thinking barring some elements, why the Eternals have remained an obscure franchise for so long.

You could treat it as humans just got confused, but the actual Athena probably shouldn't, which just raises all manner of questions.

I think we just killed two Harpies with one Gaia, my dear friend.

Now, the Creation Myths and afterlives, on the other hand…

I'm kind of hoping that this movie has Thor take Beta Ray Bill's place as 'Space Thor' while Jane sticks to Earth, joins the Avengers, etc. I feel like that would be a good balance.

This whole confusion over there being elder, unambiguously non-divine aliens who are implied to have inspired some things of Greek mythology on the same universe where ancient Greek gods exist reminds me of a comment saying how crazy is Batman fighting a villain who believes to be the encarnation of Zeus on the same universe where there is a super-heroine who was created by Greek gods and regularly encounters them.
