Tfw the thing people remember about your game is how they can just leave the new region to visit the old one.

Man the Sprigatito eyes edit are off the mark, it's not supposed to be facing forward.

Also I wonder what the regional bird is this time. An eagle perhaps?

I feel like the regional bird could be anything, but since Spain's national bird is an eagle, that does make sense.

The legend has returned.

Now I need to check on what Iberia’s native myths involve. Only problem is that currently, I only know of Nuberu and Culebre. It would be interesting if the Big Bad were based on Nuberu, admittedly.

As for whether Quaxly might reference Don Quijote (where DID the “x” come from?), maybe we should look at what hairstyles were fashionable among Manchegan nobility? Even if la Mancha was dreariness incarnate in Cervantes’s time, there must have been some manner of trends there.

EDIT: Meanwhile, I looked up Amadís de Gaula on Wikipedia. Among other things, for a time he was known as the Knight of the Green Sword. Maybe Sprigatito will evolve into a swordslynx with Leaf Blade?

Also in that story is the scaled, poison-breathing giant Endriago. I see a Poison/x hulking reptile in the game’s future…

Not sure I agree with the "that shadow is a 4th new Pokemon" take; it could just be a generic shadow to represent a Pokemon in general.

I really expect the names to be based on the spectrum of visible light, not the flag of the second republic. Third legendaries don't look like they're going to be a thing anymore

Or they could pull a Kyurem/Necrozma and have a third legendary that can combine with the main legendaries. Or they could do something nobody'd expect.

(Though honestly, I'd love to see Kyurem merged with both Zekrom and Reshiram, or maybe a "dusk" evolution for Cosmoem…)

One thing that was pointed out to me is that the gas station looking thing in one of the panning shots seems to be a tiny standalone self service Pokemon center.

I have to wonder if it will have a shop as a vending machine.

[up][up][up][up][up][up][up] The eagle was used in official heraldry long before Franco (the Catholic Monarchs already used it), and it has been used in lots of different cultures anyways.

Stop looking for fascists everywhere, just relax and enjoy the games. Seriously, I find worrying that somebody could see a cute eagle-based Pokémon (as Gamefreak would likely design it, at least in its first form) and get angry because that person can only think of fascists. It's... unhealthy.

Also we already have an Eagle pokemon im Rufflet and Braviary. And while I heavily disagree with the notion of stop looking for fascists (especially after the last decade), fascists typically take the thinnest of grasped straws and take it a country mile, so rather than dancing around the issue we should just quash them as they prop up.

I mean unlike swatstikas there are still a lot of beneficial things eagles represent. Plus they're, you know, a real animal.

They're probably safe if it's recognizable as a type of eagle that's well-represented in Iberia. (And it's not two-headed, at least where players of Maldita Castilla are concerned.)

Flamingos and bustards are also quite notable as birds, the Iberian magpie is only found here (and we still don't have a magpie 'mon), countries associated with eagles are a dime a dozen ever since the romans did it, and, it has some unpleasant connotations if used to represent Spain. Same reason a Roman fasces would be unpleasant in an Italy-based region; it got tainted.

A shame, because both golden and imperial eagles are awesome animals that really deserve representation; sea eagles cannot hog all the rep in the shape of both Braviary flavors. Unless one counts Pidgeot and perhaps Staraptor.

Hell, pretty much every regional bird becomes a raptor when fully evolved anyway; only Fearow, Pelipper (both of which fit the archetype despite there being another bird in their region) and Toucannon aren't raptorial; Corviknight is less raptorial than usual, instead being just a giant metallic raven, but even Unfezant has some raptor elements in its pigeon-fowl self.

Eriogurez, please stop trying to tie fascism to the games when no such connection exists. Not only is this off topic but this also not a discussion that anyone else on the thread wants to have.

I miss seasons. Probably they should have lasted for a week rather than for a month, but, they really beat weirdly variable weather changing the spawns.

    Off topic apology
And I didn't think I had linked the games to fascism. I argued eagles would be a bad choice as a symbol because of Unfortunate Implications and that I'd rather have another bird, but, I could have mentioned that in a different way, sorry.

After looking at all the various different inspiration, I definitely can predict the Fuecoco's final evolution would essentially be the Fire starter's equivalent to Blastoise, in that it's torso is essentially some kind of an oven of some sort, possibly used by the people of the region to cook and/or warm food, with flaps that are meant to open to release excess heat working like organic doors. It will also definitely have the head of a crocodilian creature.

If it becomes a snake, the design will more towards a tsuchinoko in order to facilitate the oven part of the body, the youkai being already naturally very wide and fat, along with possibly wings in order to move around.

If it becomes an ox, it's body structure would be very decidedly cow/bull like, complete with thick legs, long sharp horns, and possibly even eat grass and plant matter to suppliment it's giant despite being crocodilian.

DAMMIT MARK, STOP HITTING HELPY!!
