And with this new chapter the gnomes are officially friends. Woo
. I know they are being called pygmies, but they have little hats and mustaches, so I will keep calling them gnomes. Or you know, I could use the fact the Spanish version is calling them "duendecillos", so instead I could refer to them as lil' duendes
.
Also, this chapter had some nice timing, since it meant that in a week we got 2 Aira flashbacks, even if they have very different tones.
I'm definitely all for Kouki joining the main cast of characters. I'd love to see both her and Rin's reactions to the next time the group has to deal with aliens.
"I squirm, I struggle, ergo I am. Faced with death, I am finally, truly alive."Anime episode eight. After the emotional equivalent of an atomic bomb that was last week's episode this one is a bit of a breather even with the standard "worst possible way a scene could've unfolded" joke. Aira's crushing on Okarun and expressing it in the most main character way possible, Momo strolls by at the worst possible time and isn't really in the mood for an explanation. And on top of all that a couple more periods into the school day the three of them are abducted into dark space by the Serpoians and a gig worker that's a boxing singing shrimp guy. As Okarun and Aira deal with that Momo in the meantime is stalked by ... the Loch Ness Monster? That can shoot lasers ... (well water jets but I mean lasers sound cooler).
Aira's Silky super mode is what the episode ends on; her voice going from more of a Medb vocal range down to where she usually has Nightfall from Spy X Family.
Sorry about the double post.
Manga is on a two week break, this week and next week, returning on December 9th so nothing to speak about on that front. However. New episode of the anime was out today.
Episode Nine. Aira's acro-silky mode catches the aliens off guard but not so much that they can't combine their psychic powers into the AWESOME ZONE to suppress both her and Okarun; at least until Momo shows up to counteract the psychic trap ... at least when she's not pratfalling over Okarun and Aira being too close or Okarun being an awkward fellow. The gig-worker in the meantime gets an upgrade and becomes even more mantis-shrimp-like.
Things are going okay for the group, until Nessie, who was apparently the other gig worker (and also not the sharpest tool in the shed) shows up and starts attacking everyone. The last standing Serpoian is tired of both gig workers incompetence and merges with the two of them to create a real monstrosity. It's touch and go for a while with the creature being able to cover both long and short range, but Momo takes advantage of what she learned about mantis shrimp in class to cripple its' arms, and Okarun lands the final bow with Aira giving him a path to follow.
The three of them make it out of the dark space alive ... only to realize that oh right they're still in school, Okarun is naked as the day he was born, and Momo and Aira are both in their skivvies. They might have lived, but their social reputations won't.
Given what the latest chapters have told us, I sometimes find myself wondering how things might have turned out if the protagonists had told Queen Sensei about the alien attack, given that she's pretty serious in hearing students out and ended up being able to see spirits because she actually accompanied students during exorcisms and whatnot.
"I squirm, I struggle, ergo I am. Faced with death, I am finally, truly alive."With this episode there should be two left until the mid season break or in this case a break between cours. With the way the pacing has been I'm guessing that they'll get to Jiji's house and have the looming shot of the Kito family as the last scene of the season.
I do find it really funny - oh and I need to preface this for anime onlys that I'm about to talk about spoilers for an arc that occurs significantly later in the manga - Okarun's theorizing regarding why aliens can't full scale invade Earth is pretty much spot on. Just one of his family jewels ends up being enough to power a warp gate esque device to bring through an entire attack fleet; said attack fleet is then utterly annihilated by one yokai. Granted it's a particularly powerful yokai that's even more of a threat than Turbo Granny, but still.
As for this episode itself, it's nice to continue confirming that Aira isn't heartless, she's just weird and has a really bad case of main-character syndrome. Also turns out that not all the aliens are bad guys, some just have bills to pay and children to take care of.
x2 Well, let's consider that Okarun has no reputation to speak of, so if roumor goes out 2 girl were fighting over him, he would actually improve his reputation. Momo doesn't care, as long as her friends still trust her and are there for her, which we see they do. Finally, Aira imploded her popularity, but since ends up having better firends in the future, it's an alright situation. Plus I feel that Kouki's problem is more about her family finding out (and treating her worse) than others in school she barely interacts with
Speaking off, I feel that is something missing from the story since we don't see the reaction from Aira's dad and Okarun's parents (Sekio probably found out while explaining the kappa). And that is something I have been wondering about: What's up with Okarun's family? Do they not care that their son started going missing for days, getting hurt while also progressively getting muscular? He is likely poor, since he didn't have money for a phone, but it's really curious we know nothing about the Takakuras.
Edit:
I loved the UFO and it's little eyes.

Ch 175: Wow, can't believe Aira and Yukishiro were connected all along. I also love the little Pygmies: emotional support Pygmies.
Also, gotta love how they reveal Kinta just lying in bed all bandaged up — almost like a Something We Forgot kinda moment.
