Characters.Pokémon Reorganization/Cleanup

The organization of Characters.Pokemon seems to be an artifact from the site's early days. Characters from different games are organized by their archetype and role rather than by game, making it tedious to reorganize. This reached its head with the release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, where, thanks to the absence of said archetypes, most of the characters were shoved onto Characters.Pokemon Other Non Playable Characters. As a result, a sandbox for a new character page was created specifically for that game, but the other games will need similar fixes.

We will have at least one character page to correspond with a work page, meaning that third versions and remakes will typically have to share pages. Exceptions include sequels or remakes that are just too different.

The current list of sandboxes for the pages is as follows:

• Characters Pokemon Red And Blue (may or may not include the Let's Go games, it will for now)
• Characters Pokemon Gold And Silver
• Characters Pokemon Ruby And Sapphire
• Characters Pokemon Diamond And Pearl
• Characters Pokemon Black And White
• Characters Pokemon Black 2 And White 2
• Characters Pokemon X And Y
• Characters Pokemon Sun And Moon (the Ultra games are too similar to warrant a different page as of now)
• Characters Pokemon Sword And Shield
• Pokemon Legends Arceus Characters

It was also reported that there might be trope misuse on these pages. Use this thread to address it as well.

Strongly agree. I think the trend of 'franchising' character sheet pages sucks, especially for minor characters; I don't want to have to go through dozens of minor characters from other TV shows who have otherwise nothing to do with each other on MCU: Citizens – New York City to find one character from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, for example. There's a concurrent effort for Ace Attorney.

Anyway, Characters.Pokemon Legends Arceus is now live. I didn't want to redlink Characters.Pokemon Protagonists And Rivals Hisui on 70 pages, so I redirected it there for now. How should the header be amended? Or should we get rid of it entirely for now?

Probably should check out how long a page for SM games would end up being, as it has a chance to end up being the biggest page of the bunch, possibly being followed up by BW.

I've started work on the Gold/Silver sandbox. I found this entry for Ethan:

• Expy: His original design looked very similar to Red's. Lampshaded by Blue in HGSS.

It's not an expy if it's the same series made by the same company, right?

Edit: Also I put Koga's info on the Red/Blue page, and had his section on Gold/Silver link to that- it makes more sense to me for his character info to be on the page for the games he originally appeared since he's got about an equally large presence in both sets of games. Same thing for Bruno and Lance.

Since the pages are about the human characters, should there be a personal link to that generation's Pokémon page (i.e. "For the Pokémon that debuted in these games, click here") or is it fine to just have them on the header index?

I support this change, as it is confusing to sort characters by role, rather than introduction.

Can't Pokemon Black 2 ans White 2 be merged with Pokemon Black ans White? I don't think there's that many of new charcters introduced in the sequel.

Edit: Started to work on Characters Pokemon Ruby And Sapphire. I went through the Protagonists and Rivals part. I fixed a ZCE, but there are a few others I'm not sure how to fix, so I commented them out.

On BW2: I think a merger is reasonable, considering there's maybe six new notable characters in that game: Hugh, Colress, Roxie, Marlon, Yancy and Curtis.

Once the final page is ready to go, we should have the BW2 version of the title as a redirect.

One thing I quickly noticed that for whatever reason beyond Entry Pimping, Cynthia has a specific section to her appearance in Masters. No other character seems to have that so should it be taken out or what?

I'm curious for a combined page. Do any of these characters now warrant their own pages due to size?

I was wondering more about the more iconic and long running characters like giovanni and Cynthia.

To make a long story short, no. The closest of the "iconic" characters to reaching that point is Ghetsis, but he's still about 5k characters away.

A few other questions about the character pages:

• Should we even have Characters.Pokemon Glitches? These are Pokemon whose very existence is unintentional and their entries have issues with Walkthrough Mode, ZCEs, and shoehorns. The matter's been brought to ATT on three separate occasions and results were inconclusive aside from possibly moving the page's contents to Just for Fun.
• I'm curious about how we're supposed to handle troping the Unova battle facility characters now, given that only one of them appears in Pokémon Legends: Arceus and he has a separate folder on that game's page in addition to the shared one on the battle facility page.

"For tropes about his appearance in X game, see X Game Page"

And if he doesn't get to that point but the page becomes too long, the natural split would still be Characters.Pokemon Black And White Team Plasma. (I get miffed when character splits overtake group splits. It's not a race guys!)

I agree- have a section on the PLA page for just tropes in his appearance there, and a link to the Black/White character page. The section for the subway bosses there should link to the PLA page and not include any tropes of Ingo's appearance there.

I think don't think Characters.Pokemon Glitches should be kept because, well, they're not characters.

I agree with cutting the glitches. There might be a few tropes worth moving on the main page, but the page itself can go.

Shall I do the honor of cutting the page?

I think we should move them to a Just for Fun page.

On Ingo, I am not certain if his inclusion is meant to be an actual spoiler, at least one that doesn't hinge on the First-Episode Twist. The dialogue box outright calls him that when you first meet him, and post-release trailer for some of the unrevealed stuff has him be there, name and all. Though definitely waiting for potential opinion on "post-release Trailers Always Spoil".

On a trope that appears for multiple characters, there might be a low-brow edit war going on with Cutting Off the Branches entries for the MC, as some people insist that it is Played With/Downplayed "due to the multiverse". Which I feel like defeats the point of the trope. Either cut the trope or the mentions of the multiverse, though with the former option, the entry can stay if either one player character is treated as being the "main one".

Bit of a different one, as the basic idea is the same just that now Tropers.Apocrypha is the one doing it.

Remember how Volo's sheet was split into two folders to prevent spoilers on Characters.Pokemon Legends Arceus? Someone merged them together without discussion.

I agree with merging Cynthia's Pokémon Masters section because the fact that only she got her own section and no one else like say Red, Blue or Leaf stuck out as really odd to me.

Also, Flint's section claims there's no doubt that the one in Masters is the same one as the original DP due to the fact that he mains Infernape and talks fondly about his Drifblim and Lopunny. As I pointed out on the discussion page, the Flint in Platinum could have a Drifblim and Lopunny and just never uses them due to not having a reason too.

Who is even this "Flynn" person it talks about? Why is it even in spoiler tag? Feels like there is some personal arguments going on with this.

??? Flynn??? Who's that?

That is what the Mythology Gag entry calls Flint. Or something like that. It really should be removed.

Also I think Volo entries should stay separate unless there is something in the rules that say otherwise.
