It was created in April 2012 and has an Index page type, and factoring this in we're two months shy of the ten year mark where there's less than forty edits and not that much content (not a great look). The fact that it has more than 50 wicks puts this just above "not thriving", and it's a largely namespace-unique namespace where the vast majority of those wicks are attached to works in the Music/ namespace, be they albums or the artist pages. The problem is the "index" part; most of the pages indexed within it are not singles. There's four that would qualify, and they're all covered in Music Videos. Considering that artists and albums were also indexed, it's pretty poor for something that existed almost for ten years.

Even for those wicks, it's more useful on album pages to list the album singles in the description than as a trope.

Opened, because it sounds like we've got a mess on our hands. I don't have any ideas at the moment.

Edit: Actually, what about making this a Definition-Only Page? Wicks could still go in descriptions if we did that.

This looks like an index, made as an index and feels like an index. So either remove context and gather examples, or classify it as technical terminology.

I'm okay with making it def-only.

I'd still prefer making it definition-only because that would be easier, since the list on the page is barebones and most of the indexed wicks are for musicians instead of albums (even though I'm positive we have a page for every Beatles album, meaning there's no excuse for the entry for them being set up the way it is, with plain-text song names and the only wick being for the band).

Perhaps we can change this into a Useful Note on the evolution of a single, much the same way as we have one on Compact Disc.

[up] I remember a previous TRS thread about a music video trope (Notable Music Videos?) had a suggestion to make a Useful Notes page on music video history, but I can't remember if it was ever made. A Useful Notes page on singles might not be a bad idea.

I'd rather go with definition-only instead of Useful Note, since it's industry terminology.

Yeah I'm still in favor of Def-Only, I just thought the Useful Note would be separate. I'm alright in everyone's not in favor of that though.

[tup] Definition only; there aren't enough wiki pages for albums or songs to justify an index in my opinion and I can't really imagine a use for an index of artists who've released singles.

[tup] Definition only

Re: index. We do have pages for songs released as singles, so I see no harm in listing them. Off the top of my head

Functionally, it'd be a sub-index of Music Videos. It is possible to have a work page for a single that isn't a music video, though that would present a challenge.

Fair enough! It just seems like such a small number relative to the number of singles that exist. I imagine that most of the songs with their own articles are singles anyway, which would make it a pretty redundant index, but I haven't really looked so I could be way off.

[up][up] And a lot of other pages also listed under Music Videos. I'm apprehensive about a new index with all this overlap, but I did see that there are songs that have been released as singles like "Stagger Lee" and "Puff the Magic Dragon", so I imagine that could work.

Still leaning towards definition-only. Fair point about Useful Notes not being applicable to this one, but would be nice to have one for phonograph records and their history.

And we don't need to do anything with the 51 wicks?

Crown Description:

Album Single has a low amount of wicks, and the on-page index contains few listings for pages for singles (as opposed to artists or albums). What should be done with it?
